Table - best surf conditions forecast for Les Dunes over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Les Dunes over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this stretch is lookin’ pretty grim. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands. The first few days are basically a write-off. From Sunday the 12th right through until late on Monday the 21st of July, it’s a whole lot of nothin’. The swell is tiny, under 1 foot, or it’s onshore and choppy. The water is a balmy 71°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a bath, but don’t get too excited, the waves are flat.

The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Tuesday morning, the 21st of July. The wind goes dead calm, glassy as a mirror. We’ve got a tiny 3 feet of swell from the WNW wrapping in, but it’s a weak little thing with only 63 units of energy. The conditions are *surfable*, but honestly, it’s pretty ordinary. You could get a few knee-high wobblers if you’re desperate.

Then, on Wednesday morning the 22nd, we get a bit cleaner. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the N, and the swell bumps up to 2 feet from the WNW. The energy is still weak at 117 units, but it’s clean. It’s a long-period groundswell at 9 seconds, so the sets will be a bit more defined but with longer lulls. It’s still not a standout, but it’s the best of a bad bunch for the first week.

Now, here’s the one that’s got my attention. On Thursday morning, the 23rd of July, we’ve got a pulse of solid WNW swell hitting 5 feet. The energy jumps to 491 units – that’s moderate to strong. The wind is clean and cross-offshore from the NNW. This is the standout. The forecast says the swell might be too big for this break, which is a bit of a worry, but for a confident surfer on a bigger board, it could be the best window we’ve got. The direction is right off the optimum (WSW), so it’ll be wrapping in nicely. Keep in mind, this is a week and a half out, so it’s promising but not locked in.

After that, it’s back to the same old story. The swell drops, the wind gets messy, and we’re looking at choppy, unappealing surf through the end of the month. The 27th of July, Monday morning, has a clean offshore wind but only a tiny 1 feet of swell. Not worth a paddle.

Bottom line: If you’re a beginner, stay away until maybe the 21st for some tiny, clean ankle-biters. For the more experienced crew, the Thursday morning of the 23rd is your best shot—a solid, clean swell, but it might be a bit heavy for the spot. The rest is a washout. Don’t hold your breath.

Rusty.
