Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again, folks. This 16-day stretch for Les Dunes is a real bust for the most part. Mostly flat, small, and messy, so don’t expect much. It’s a long, quiet run until the very end.
The first little bit of surf worth mentioning comes in on Sunday morning, July 5th. You’ve got a little 2 ft swell out of the west, period around 10 seconds, combined energy a weak 70. The wind is light and offshore from the NE, so it’ll be clean, but it’s just small and ordinary. This is a beginner wave, fairly consistent, and the optimum direction from WSW doesn’t match the swell. Crowds can show up sometimes. Water temp is about normal for this time of year.
From Sunday afternoon on July 5th right through to Saturday the 11th, it’s a whole lot of nothing. Swells drop to 1 ft, 1 ft, and energy levels stay between 21 and 89. Winds are cross, cross-on, and onshore, with only a few cleaner moments. On July 12th, Sunday afternoon turns glassy, but with only 2 ft of swell and energy at 46, it’s still pretty flat.
Then from July 13th to July 18th, it’s just tiny—swells down to 0.7 ft, energy as low as 6 or 37. The wind varies, but nothing turns this into a rideable wave. Total doldrums.
Now come July 19th, Sunday morning, we see a little life—2 ft of swell from the WNW, 11-second period, energy hits 181. Light cross-onshore wind, but still the report calls it poor. That afternoon, though, things go big—8 ft swell from the WSW, 9-second period, and energy explodes to 826. But the wind is fresh and cross at 30 km/h, so it’s lumpy and messy. That size is way too much for this break, only for experts. Not recommended.
Finally, July 20th, Monday morning, 5 ft from the west with 8-second period, energy 278, but the note says the swell is too big for this break. Winds are cross-shore with a gentle breeze. Possibly better for kiteboarding than surfing.
Best bet of the whole period? That Sunday morning on July 5th—tiny but clean for a beginner. The bigger stuff on the 19th and 20th is too large or too sloppy. Huge gaps of flat, poor surf. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a tough stretch.
Catch you on the next one.
