Table - best surf conditions forecast for Les Dunes over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and ordinary for the most part. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell and the wind isn’t doing us any favours. There’s a real gap from now all the way through to late next week where there’s just nothing worth getting excited about. But hang in there – there’s a little pulse of energy building for the following weekend.
Looking at Les Dunes first up. The water temp is sitting around 67°, pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The problem is, we’ve got a run of days with tiny waves and mostly cross-onshore wind. Tuesday afternoon (7th) kicks off with a tiny 1ft WNW swell, period around 9 seconds, but that cross-on breeze makes it messy and pretty poor. Wednesday (8th) doesn’t get any better – small and choppy. Thursday morning (9th) is the first real sniff of something rideable: a clean, light offshore from the ESE, with a 2ft WNW swell at 10 seconds. The combined energy is weak (65), but it’s your best chance for a few small, clean waves for a beginner. After that, it’s back to small, choppy, or onshore slop through the end of the week and into the weekend.
There’s a big gap with nothing recommended from Friday 10th through to Monday 20th. That’s over a week of poor surf conditions, with small swell and messy winds. A few mornings show clean conditions (like Saturday 18th with a light N breeze), but the swell is tiny – around 2ft – and barely breaking.
Then we finally get a little spike around Monday 20th July. The morning sees a 3ft WNW swell, period 5 seconds, but the combined energy pushes to 107 – that’s moderate energy. Unfortunately, the wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be fairly choppy and not well-shaped. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s the most energy we’ve seen in weeks. The swell direction (WNW) is close to the optimum (WSW), so there’s a slight chance of something half-decent if the wind behaves.
Honestly mate, this is a tough stretch. If you’re desperate, the only time I’d even think about paddling out is Thursday morning (9th) for a few tiny clean ones, or maybe Monday 20th if the wind eases off. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game. The surf will turn around eventually – it always does.
Rusty.
