Table - best surf conditions forecast for Les Dunes over the next 16 days.
Right folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what the next couple of weeks are shaping up like for the local sandbars.
Honestly, it's a pretty quiet run for a while. The start of the window is dead flat, barely a ripple, so we're looking at a good stretch of nothing until we get towards the end of the second week.
The first real sniff of any size shows up on Friday the 17th. We see a bit of a pulse, swell bumping up to 4ft from the WSW, but the wind is all wrong for a clean wave. It's a cross-onshore breeze blowing at 9-12 mph, and the combined energy is just starting to get some legs at 117 (moderate wave energy). The quality is poor, though, so it's more of a washing machine than a wave face.
That swell builds into the weekend. On Saturday the 18th, we're looking at 5ft to 6ft from the SW, and the energy really ramps up to 280 (moderate wave energy). It's got some push, but again, the wind is a problem. It's onshore or cross-onshore, making it lumpy and choppy. This is one of those times where the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
The best of a bad bunch, and the only real standout window, comes on Monday the 20th. The swell holds in at 5ft to 5ft from the west, and the energy is the strongest we've seen at 349 (moderate wave energy). The wind drops right out early, a light breeze from the WSW, though it's unfortunately still onshore. It's not going to be a classic, but with that much push and the cleanest wind of the week, it'll be the most rideable day.
There's a late pulse on Tuesday the 21st but it's blown out again, with a fresh breeze hitting 19 mph, ruining any shape.
So, for Les Dunes, it's a long wait. The first week is a total write-off. The real potential is on Monday the 20th, but keep expectations in check. It's not a green light, just the least red one.
Rusty.
