Table - best surf conditions forecast for Les Dunes over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day window for Les Dunes is a tough one. The pickings are slim, and for the most part, we’re looking at a long stretch of unfriendly conditions. The whole forecast is a bit of a waiting game.
The first week and a half is pretty much a write-off. From Thursday the 9th through to the 19th of July, it’s a series of small, weak swells with poor surf conditions. The combined energy is low, mostly under 100, and the wind is never really on our side. The water temperature is around 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when the waves are a mess.
The only real glimmer of hope, and the true standout, lands on Monday, 20th July. The morning session at Les Dunes is the best on offer. We’ve got a 4 ft swell from the west, with a clean, moderate offshore wind from the northeast. That’s the kind of wind that will hold the face open. The energy is moderate (152), and the wave height is solid for a beginner-friendly spot. Even though the swell is a bit short in period, the offshore breeze should make it worth a paddle. Just be aware, the afternoons get messy again with a strong cross-wind.
After that, we get a bit of a glassy morning on Tuesday the 21st with tiny 3 ft waves, but it’s really ordinary. Then the swell starts to build again late in the week, with 5 ft on the 22nd and 24th, but the wind is always cross or cross-onshore, making it choppy and tough. The 24th of July has a massive 702 combined energy, but with a fresh cross-wind, it’s a lumpy mess – more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle.
So, mark your calendar for the morning of the 20th. That’s your best shot. Otherwise, it’s a lean patch, but forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope.
Rusty.
