Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. Saturday afternoon, July 4th, we’re seeing a bit of energy from a west-northwest swell at Les Dunes, but honestly, it’s just not happening right now. The onshore breeze is ruining it, and the surf is messy. Keep the board in the truck for now.
The best bet in the next 16 days is shaping up to be Friday morning, July 17th. We’ve got a clean 6ft swell rolling in from the west with a north-northwest offshore breeze – that’s going to be clean, lined-up waves. The combined energy is strong at 892, and the period is 9 seconds, so there’s some nice push behind it. However, 6ft is on the bigger side for this spot, so this is going to be more for experienced surfers. Crowds could be an issue here as well, so get out early if you want a peak to yourself. That’s your standout window.
But before that, there’s a long dry spell. After the 4th, we’re looking at tiny, weak surf with onshore winds right through until July 16th. The swell stays below 2ft most days, and the winds are mostly cross-shore or onshore, so it’s all poor conditions. Not worth paddling out. There’s a brief clean window on the morning of July 12th with a light east wind and a 2ft wave, but it’s very ordinary – barely a longboard wave.
Then on Thursday afternoon, July 16th, the swell starts to build, but it’s still messy with a cross-onshore wind. Then Friday morning hits, and that’s your moment.
After that big Friday session, it drops off again. Sunday morning, July 19th, there’s a small 2ft swell with a light offshore breeze – clean but very small, more for the log or a fun little cruiser. The combined energy is only 99, so it’s weak. Not the same as the Friday stand-out.
Water temp on that first day is 68°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so you’re good in a spring suit.
Overall, the one real standout is that Friday morning, July 17th. Don’t sleep on it. The rest of the run is either flat, blown out, or too big for the break.
