Table - best surf conditions forecast for Les Dunes over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be honest about the next 16 days… it’s going to be a tough stretch for a proper surf. The whole window is a write-off for quality waves, so I’m not going to sugarcoat it.
The first real chance of even getting wet doesn’t come until the tail end of the first week. Even then, the energy is just barely there. We’ve got a long, empty run ahead. The only spot on the radar is Les Dunes, but it’s rarely offering anything worth paddling out for.
Looking at the beginning, from Thursday the 9th of July right through to the start of the second week, it’s pretty much flat or blown out. The swell is tiny—mostly under 2 ft—with weak energy (48 or less). The wind is all over the place, mostly cross or onshore, making it choppy and messy. There’s no point even thinking about a board right now.
The one tiny glimmer comes on Friday the 18th of July. Early morning, we get a slight onshore breeze with a tiny 2 ft swell from the west. The energy is a measly 19, so it’s weak. But it’s a break from the constant chop. The wind goes cross-on again by the afternoon, so the window is short.
The real "best" of a bad lot might be the morning of Saturday the 19th of July. We’ll see a 3 ft swell from the west with moderate cross-shore wind. The energy is still weak (51), but it’s the most power we’ll see. The wind is choppy though, so it’s not exactly pristine.
After that, the last week of the forecast is a mess. Strong winds—fresh breeze at 19-22 mph—and messy, lumpy conditions. The swell is small and weak. The 0.7 ft swell on Thursday the 23rd of July has a long period of 10 seconds, but it’s so tiny it’s barely a ripple.
Honestly, for a beginner spot like Les Dunes, this is a long stretch of nothing. If you’re a kite surfer, the gales on the 21st and 22nd of July might be interesting, but for paddle surfing, you’re better off waiting for the next forecast update. The setup is just not cooperating.
Rusty.
