Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bud Bud over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here, and I’ll give it to you straight in feet and miles per hour.
Honestly, Bud-Bud is staring down a long, bleak stretch. For the next two weeks, the surf is tiny and the wind is mostly a mess. There is no single standout day. The whole 16-day run is a bust, with a big gap of nothing until the very end. This spot is exposed, and when the conditions line up wrong, you get exactly this – a whole lot of nothing.
We kick off Saturday the 11th of July with waves barely 1ft from the W. A light south cross-on breeze doesn’t help. The water is way warmer than normal at 71°F, about 4°F above average for this time of year – that sticks out. But the waves are weak, with combined energy at 28. Don’t bother. Sunday and Monday repeat the same story: 1ft swell, onshore and cross-off winds, poor quality. Nothing riding.
Through the first week, it’s a total loss. Swell stays under 3ft until Wednesday the 15th, and even then it’s cross-on and choppy. Thursday and Friday are still onshore and weak. By Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th, fresh cross-on winds up to 18 mph make for lumpy, ugly surf. Not worth a second glance.
After a long quiet spell, we finally get a pulse on Thursday the 23rd of July. Morning swell hits 4ft from the WNW with a 7-second period, and the combined energy climbs to 264 – moderate energy. But it’s onshore, blowing 15 mph from the WSW. The afternoon is similar: 4ft at 8 seconds, but onshore at 18 mph. This is the first real swell in over a week, but the wind ruins it. Friday the 24th brings strong breeze of 24 mph and rain showers, making a mess of the 3ft swell. No thanks.
Saturday the 25th of July is the biggest of the run. Morning sees 5ft from the WSW at 6 seconds, combined energy at 184, but cross-on wind. The afternoon has 5ft from the W at 8 seconds, with energy jumping to 302 – solid moderate energy. But it’s straight onshore at 15 mph. That size is too much for beginners and the wind is a deal-breaker for everyone else. Sunday the 26th tapers off with 3ft and more onshore wind.
So what’s the best? If you’re really jonesing, the morning of Monday the 20th has a small 2ft swell from the WNW, with a light north cross-off breeze and clean conditions. Combined energy is only 35, so it’s weak. That’s your best bet. Saturday the 25th has the most size (5–5ft), but the wind is too messy. No real standout. Near-term forecasts are solid, but there’s simply no quality.
For the second week, don’t get your hopes up. Small and windy. Save the gas.
Rusty.
