Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bud Bud over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Bud Bud has got cooking for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty flat and grim for a long stretch. We’ve got a big gap of nothing special from now through most of July. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the wait won’t be chilly.
Starting Wednesday afternoon on the 8th, there's barely a bump. We're talking a tiny 0.7 ft swell with a weak energy reading (21). Winds are onshore and it’s just poor surf conditions. The rest of that week and into the next is more of the same – tiny surf from the west, mostly in the 1.0 ft to 2 ft range. The swell energy stays well below 100, showing you how weak it is. We get a little light offshore wind here and there on Thursday morning the 9th, but with only 1 ft on offer, it’s a lake, not a surf.
The poor run carries on right through until the end of the third week. There are some cleaner moments, like Sunday morning the 12th, with a light east cross-offshore breeze and clean conditions, but the swell is just 1.0 ft. You’d need a stand-up paddle board, not a surfboard.
Now, there is a flicker of hope, but it’s a long way off. Monday the 21st of July is when things finally wake up. That morning we see a 5 ft swell from the WSW, with the energy jumping up to 131 (moderate). Winds are light cross-shore, which is promising. It’s still showing as poor surf conditions though, so it’s not a slam dunk.
The real standout, if you can wait, is on Tuesday the 22nd of July. Wednesday morning the 22nd we get a 6 ft swell from the WSW, and the energy rockets up to 683 (strong). The wind is light from the NNW, making it a clean, cross-shore setup. This is the best looking window in the whole forecast. The swell is a bit big for beginners, but for you experienced crew, this is your shot. It’s a longer period swell (9 seconds) which should give it some shape at Bud Bud. Remember, this is still a long-range call so don’t bet the farm on it, but it’s the only one worth circling on the calendar.
The afternoon of the 22nd gets a bit messier with a fresh cross-onshore wind kicking up, and then it fades back down into nothing for the rest of the month. So, if you're itching for a wave, you're waiting until at least the 22nd. Otherwise, it's a long spell of small, poor conditions.
Stay patient, keep an eye on that day, and paddle out if it cleans up.
Rusty.
