Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bud Bud over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks at Bud Bud look pretty grim. The swell is tiny and the wind is all over the shop. We’re looking at a long stretch of very small, weak surf with mostly onshore or cross-on winds messing things up. The combined wave energy is mostly in the weak range, sitting between 12 and 55 (31) for the first week, so don't expect much push. The water temperature is 70°F and that’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a nice little bonus for a paddle but won’t help the waves.
Thursday, July 9th through to Saturday, July 18th is pretty much a write-off. Swell is dribbling in at 1ft to 2ft from the west, with periods all over the shop, mostly short period windswell. The winds are mostly cross-on or onshore, making things lumpy and choppy. There’s a little window on Friday morning, July 10th with a light offshore breeze from the east and clean conditions, but the swell is only 1ft with a combined energy of 28 – it’s ankle-snappers at best. Not worth paddling out for.
We finally get a bit of a pulse around Sunday, July 19th. The morning goes glassy with a light northwesterly breeze and the swell bumps up to 2ft from the west, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is still only 48, so it’s weak, but that glassy surface will make it look pretty. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon turns to junk with a fresh cross-on.
Monday, July 20th morning brings a bit more hope. A moderate offshore wind from the northeast and a 3ft west swell, period 6 seconds, with a combined energy of 75. It’s clean, but the period is short, so it’s a bit of a crumbly wave. The best of the whole run might be Tuesday, July 21st morning. The wind goes glassy, light and variable from the east-southeast, with a 2ft west swell and a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is 69. It’s still small, but with that glassy surface, it’ll be the cleanest wave you’ll see all week. For a beginner, those tiny, clean conditions are perfect.
Later in the week, Wednesday, July 22nd morning has a 4ft west swell, 6 second period, and a combined energy hitting 123 (moderate energy). The wind is light and cross-shore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. That’s the biggest swell, but the short period and cross-shore wind won’t make it a classic. Thursday, July 23rd morning sees a 3ft west-southwest swell with a longer 8 second period, combined energy of 109, and a clean cross-offshore breeze from the north. That’s a decent combo for the size, but it’s still just a so-so wave.
Bottom line: no standouts here. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the glassy mornings on July 19th, 21st, and maybe the 23rd are your best chance at something clean. The bigger swell on the 22nd is there, but it’s messy. For a beginner, the tiny, clean stuff on the 21st is the safest bet.
