Alright folks, Rusty taking a look for Bud-Bud.
Honestly, this is a quiet spell. A long one. The water here is sitting warmer than usual for the start of July, a full 5°F above the norm, but the waves just aren’t there to enjoy it.
Things kick off small. Friday the 3rd of July morning, we’ve got a 2ft west swell with 11-second gaps and a light north wind – clean but tiny, with weak energy (114). That first session is for beginners only. By afternoon the wind swings hard WNW at 19 mph, turning it into a lumpy mess.
Saturday and Sunday follow the same small theme: around 2ft to 2ft on offer. Saturday morning is still clean with a NE cross-off, and Sunday morning even gets a gentle offshore NE breeze on that 2ft swell (47 energy). It’s clean, but you are riding barely-there ripples.
Then from Monday the 6th right through to Saturday the 11th, we hit a proper lull. Swell drops into the 0.6ft–1ft range. Energy readings hover in the teens. There are moments of glass or offshore wind, but no swell behind them – a full week of nothing doing.
From the 15th into the 18th we get a small pulse. Saturday the 18th morning sees the biggest swell of the outlook: a 3ft WSW swell at an 8-second period, with combined energy up to 147, but unfortunately the wind is a cross-onshore WNW at 6 mph. It’s better than flat, but chopped.
Friday the 17th morning has a 2ft west swell with only a 7-second period, alright, but the afternoon goes sloppy with a 3ft swell dropping to a 4-second period in a 19 mph onshore gale. Perfect for kites, not for proper surfing.
If you’re a beginner wanting clean glass, the 4th and 5th of July mornings are your only real look. For anyone else, this is a waiting game.
Rusty.
