The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's chew through this forecast. It's a pretty quiet one, so don't get your hopes up too high.
We're looking at a long stretch of nothing much. The first real sign of life doesn't show up until late in the period, and even then, it's not a game-changer. There's a lot of small, weak surf and clean winds that are just wasted on tiny waves.
The only break on the menu is Bud Bud. It's a beginner-friendly, exposed spot. The water is unusually warm, sitting at 72°F, which is about 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year. That's a nice bonus, but it doesn't fix the wave problem.
From Friday the 17th right through the end of the month, we're looking at tiny, weak surf. The combined swell energy is mostly in the singles or low double digits, like 25 or 41. That's weak. The swell height is basically nothing, from 0.3ft to 2ft, with periods all over the place. There's some long-period stuff on the 20th and 21st from the west, but there's no height to it.
The wind is a real tease. We get some beautiful, clean offshore winds from the NE and ENE on the 19th, 20th, and 21st. That's a huge positive for clean conditions, but it's blowing over knee-high slop. The best-looking wind is on Sunday the 19th with a fresh offshore breeze from the ENE at 19 mph. Perfect conditions, but the swell is only 0.7ft.
The first bit of energy comes on the 28th of July. The combined energy hits 102, with a 3ft west swell at 8 seconds. That's moderate energy, but the wind is a strong onshore from the SW at 19 mph. It's going to be a messy, blown-out windswell. Not one for the lineup.
The 29th sees a 2ft west swell with an 11-second period, which is a nice, long groundswell. But the wind is a cross-onshore mess from the W and WNW at 19-22 mph. It's going to be lumpy.
If you're really scratching for a surf, the morning of the 29th is probably your best shot. It's got the biggest, longest-period swell of the whole run, but the wind is still cross-onshore. It's a far cry from perfect.
The rest of the run into August is flat. Tiny, weak, and not worth the effort. This is a classic dry spell for the area. Hang loose, and keep an eye on the forecasts, because they can change. But for now, it's a time to find other things to do.
Rusty.
