Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bud Bud over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this 16-day outlook for Bud Bud is a tough one. The forecast is a long stretch of poor surf conditions, and honestly, there’s no standout day where everything clicks. We’ve got a long dry spell ahead, so let’s break it down.
Right now, starting Sunday the 12th, we’ve got tiny 1ft waves from the west with a 9-second period. The combined wave energy is a weak 14, so don’t expect much push. The water is sitting at 71°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s pretty notable. Sunday morning has a cross-offshore breeze making things clean, but the swell is just too small. Sunday afternoon goes glassy, but still, it’s a knee-high dribble.
Monday the 13th sees a little bump in size to 3ft from the WNW with a short 6-second period, but the wind swings to a cross-on from the SSW at 12 mph, making it choppy. The energy climbs to 110 (moderate), but the wind is messing it up. Monday afternoon drops back to 2ft with a 6-second period and cross-on wind – not worth paddling out.
Tuesday the 14th morning is glassy again, but the swell is back to 1ft with a 5-second period and energy at a pathetic 10. Tuesday afternoon gets a 0.7ft, 12-second period swell, but with a stiff cross-on wind from the west at 12 mph, it’s choppy and messy.
From Wednesday the 15th through to the end of the first week, it’s a repeating pattern of tiny west or WNW swells, almost always with cross-on or onshore winds. The combined energy stays below 100 for most of it, and the period is often short. There’s a brief moment on Thursday the 16th morning with a clean 3ft, 5-second swell from the WNW and a cross-off breeze, but the period is so short it’s just a choppy little wave.
The second week (from about the 19th onward) doesn’t get any better. We’re talking 0.7ft to 2ft swells, mostly with onshore or cross-on winds. The exception is Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd, where we get offshore winds from the ENE at 12-19 mph, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7ft with a 9-second period – combined energy of only 8-11. That’s clean but pretty much flat.
The best chance for anything rideable is the very end of the outlook, on Monday the 27th. We’ve got a 4ft swell from the west building to 5ft from the WSW in the afternoon, with a short 5-8 second period. The morning has a light cross-on breeze, but by afternoon the wind is a fresh cross-on at 19 mph, making it lumpy. The combined energy jumps to 277 in the afternoon (strong), but the wind is a killer. The size is still manageable for most surfers, but the quality is poor.
In summary, Bud Bud is looking at a long flat spell with no real standouts. The water is unusually warm, but that’s about the only highlight. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the cleanest days are the glassy Sunday morning (12th) or the Tuesday morning (14th), but you’ll be fighting for a knee-high wave. The end of the month has a bit more size, but it’s blown out. For a beginner, it’s mostly safe due to the small size, but there’s nothing to catch. A blank run like this isn’t unusual for the area – forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
