Alright crew, let's break down the next 16 days for Ledge Point. This is a reef break that fires on a SSW swell, and when it gets the right wind, it’s pure magic for those who can handle it.
It kicks off today, Monday, July 6th. We’re looking at a solid 10 ft WSW groundswell with a 15-second period, so there’s serious juice in the water. The wind is a light 9 mph breeze from the SE, making it cross-off, and the water is 68°, just about average for the season. This is excellent surf for the big-wave crew, but if you’re not an experienced surfer, stay well clear.
Tuesday, July 7th is the first major standout. The morning is glassy offshore with a clean east wind at 9 mph, and the swell is holding at 10 ft but now with a 16-second period – that’s real groundswell power. The energy is massive. This is a precision wave for experts only. The afternoon stays clean but the wind swings south.
From Wednesday the 8th through Thursday the 9th, the swell backs off a touch, but there’s still plenty of push. Mornings offer cleaner conditions with lighter winds, but afternoons get a lumpy cross-chop. Thursday afternoon with 8 ft and a moderate south-southwest breeze is a bit messy, not on the list.
Friday the 10th the swell drops to around 6 ft, and the period shortens to 13 seconds. It’s clean in the morning with a light cross-off breeze from the ESE, so there are still fun waves for the intermediate surfer.
Saturday the 11th brings clean offshore conditions in the morning with 5 ft SW groundswell. Sunday the 12th is another beauty – clean offshore east-southeast wind in the morning with 7 ft of SW swell.
Now, circle Monday, July 13th. This is the big kahuna. The morning delivers a 10 ft SW groundswell with a very long 17-second period and a clean offshore east wind. The wave energy is off the charts. This is exceptional, but it’s strictly for experts. The wave will be fast, hollow, and critical.
The swell holds through the middle of the week around the 8 ft mark with clean conditions. Then, from Thursday the 16th onward, things get rough. Strong NNW winds kick up a lumpy cross-chop and onshore slop, making for poor surf until Friday the 17th, when a big 13 ft WSW swell hits but with cross-onshore rain and moderate wind. That’s a bit of a mess.
Saturday the 18th is completely blown out with 25 mph onshore westerly winds, just stay home. The following Sunday the 19th calms down, but the quality is marginal.
The turn comes on Monday the 20th. A 6 ft SW swell with light cross-off winds from the NE in the morning gives excellent conditions. And then, on Tuesday the 21st, we get a fantastic run with a 10 ft WSW swell, 16-second period, and a clean moderate offshore breeze from the ESE. A perfect way to wrap up the outlook.
Bottom line: Your two top picks are Tuesday morning the 7th and Monday morning the 13th. Both are big, powerful, and clean. Bring your biggest stick and your best game.
Rusty.
