Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ledge Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s shaping up. The standout in the whole 16-day window is Ledge Point, a reef that’s wide open to the south-west swell. Water temp is 68°, which is dead average for this time of year.
First chance to get a wave is Monday, July 13th. Monday afternoon, the ocean is clean, with a solid 10ft WSW swell running at 16 seconds – that’s some proper long-period groundswell. The wind is a cross-offshore breeze from the SE at 9 mph, so the faces will be smooth. The combined energy is cranking at 4478 (moderate to strong wave energy). This is big, powerful stuff at 10ft, so it’s for experienced surfers only. The reef will handle that long period well, giving you well-shaped, meaty waves with decent lulls between sets.
Tuesday the 14th keeps the energy going. The morning is a bit marginal with an 8ft WSW swell and a 12 mph cross-off from the ENE. The afternoon is the real window: clean, offshore wind at 9 mph from the ENE, with a 8ft WSW swell still humming. The period is still a long 15 seconds. Energy is at 2238 (moderate to strong). This is quality, powerful surf for the experienced crew.
By Wednesday the 15th, the morning is still rideable with a 6ft swell, but a strong 19 mph N wind makes it tough. The afternoon gets choppy with a cross-onshore wind. From Thursday the 16th through the weekend, it’s a write-off with strong onshore winds and lumpy, messy conditions. Stay out.
Then Friday the 17th morning gives us a quick window. Swell is back to 7ft from the WSW, period 13 seconds, and the wind is a gentle cross-off from the NNE at 9 mph. Clean again. Energy is 1523 (moderate). A good session for the experienced surfer before the wind turns onshore in the afternoon.
Saturday the 18th is a big one, but tricky. The swell jumps to 15ft from the WSW (9925 combined energy, very strong wave energy), but the wind is onshore and messy. The afternoon sees a 13ft swell with a cross-onshore breeze. This is heavy, powerful water, and with the wind on it, it’ll be a bumpy, challenging beast. Not for the faint-hearted, and honestly, with that much swell and poor wind, it might be more interesting for the kite crew than paddle surfing.
Sunday the 19th sees the swell drop to 10ft, but the wind is still light cross-onshore, so the surf will be lumpy.
Looking further ahead, Monday the 20th is a total loss with strong, messy onshore winds and a short-period 8 second swell. Tuesday the 21st afternoon shows promise again: a 10ft SW swell, 12-second period, with a light cross-off breeze from the SSE at 6 mph. Combined energy is 2367 (moderate to strong). Clean, powerful waves for the experienced. The 22nd and 23rd offer some waves in the 7ft range, but the wind is often cross or onshore, making it marginal.
The standout in the second week is Thursday, July 24th. Friday morning has a 8ft WSW swell, 15 seconds, with a gentle cross-off wind from the ENE at 9 mph. The energy is strong at 3880. Then Friday afternoon is even cleaner: the same 8ft swell, 14 seconds, with a light offshore from the ENE at 6 mph. Combined energy at 3784. This is a beautiful, clean, powerful swell for the more experienced surfer. Crowds are possible, as it’s a known spot.
After that, the weekend of the 26th and 27th sees a drop in quality with onshore winds and rain. The 28th is a write-off with strong onshore winds.
The best windows are the Monday 13th afternoon, Tuesday 14th afternoon, Friday 17th morning, and the Thursday 24th morning and afternoon. The Thursday 24th afternoon is the pick of the second week, but it’s a long-range call, so keep an eye on it.
