Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Watermans. It’s a reef break over here, and we've got a proper run of solid, long-period groundswell lining up, so strap in.
The water's sitting at 65°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – you’ll want the 4/3 for sure.
The whole stretch kicks off proper on Monday the 6th. We're looking at a clean 8ft to 8ft swell out of the WSW with a long 16-second period. That’s got some serious grunt behind it – combined energy is reading a hefty 2895 (moderate to strong). With a clean ESE breeze all day, the lines are going to be groomed to perfection. This is proper, powerful reef surf. It's big though, over 8ft – definitely one for experienced surfers only. The paddle out will be easier with those longer gaps between sets, but the take-off zone will be committing.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the fire burning. Another 8ft WSW swell, still with a 16-second pulse and combined energy hitting 3170 (strong). A light E breeze in the morning will keep it glassy and clean. Absolute perfection for the experienced crew. The wind swings southerly in the arvo, putting a bit of a cross-shore bump on it, so get your sessions in early.
Wednesday the 8th sees the swell drop a touch to 5ft in the morning with a north wind putting a cross-shore chop on it – it’ll be a bit lumpy. By the afternoon, the wind goes onshore from the west and the swell jumps back up to 8ft, making for messy, blown-out conditions. It’ll be big but ugly.
Thursday the 9th stays onshore and messy with a 8ft swell and a moderate southwesterly. Not worth paddling out. Friday the 10th cleans up a bit with a light SSE breeze and a smaller 6ft swell – combined energy is down to 1129 (moderate). It’ll be a much more manageable size, excellent for the experienced surfers but nothing that’ll blow your mind.
Look, the real standout in this whole run is likely Sunday the 12th. Hold onto your board. The morning shows a 8ft WSW swell with an incredible 19-second period. The combined energy is a massive 5114 (very strong). That's the closest thing to an ocean pulse you'll get. With an ENE breeze keeping it clean, the lines will be long, powerful, and perfect for the reef. This is what you wait for. It’s big, fast, and heavy – experts only again.
The Early Calls (13th - 16th):
The swell settles but holds. Monday the 13th has clean 6ft surf from the SW with a 16-second period – a nice, solid day. Tuesday the 14th is similar with 7ft and clean conditions. Thursday the 16th is a write-off with strong north winds and lumpy 5ft surf. This set-up is big enough that with the wind and chop, it might be more interesting for the kite crew than a paddle surfer.
The Fading Pulse (17th -19th):
The second week gets a bit messy. Friday the 17th has a 6ft onshore mess with a risk of thunderstorms and fresh cross-onshore winds. Combined energy is 1480 (moderate). Not one for the logbook. Saturday the 18th stays windy and lumpy. Sunday the 19th is a clean-ish 5ft with an ESE breeze, but the swell is winding down. Combined energy drops to 826 (weak).
The Lull (20th - 21st):
Monday the 20th is tiny – just 2ft of swell. It’s glassy, which is nice for a cruise, and the period is a very long 20 seconds, but there’s no power. The energy is only 650 (weak). Then, just when you think it’s over, Tuesday the 21st fires back up. Another clean, 8ft to 8ft groundswell from the WSW, 16-second period, and a perfect offshore ESE breeze. Combined energy jumps back to 2848 (strong). It’s a distant call, so treat it with a pinch of salt, but the pattern looks like it’s resetting for another solid run.
The Pick: If I had to pick one, Sunday the 12th is the highlight of the whole forecast – the combo of size, period, and clean wind is a rare beast. For a more manageable but still quality session, Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th are right up there too.
Signing off, Rusty.
