Table - best surf conditions forecast for Watermans over the next 16 days.

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Watermans.

We’ve got a solid run of swell on the way, but it’s a mixed bag of conditions. The standout period is this weekend, especially Sunday morning, but we’re also looking at a serious pulse of energy right at the end of the forecast window. The first few days have some decent waves, but you’ll need to pick your windows carefully.

The water is sitting at 65° this morning, which is a bit colder than average for this time of year, so you might want a spring suit or at least a vest.

Thursday morning, July 9th kicks things off with a solid 8ft WSW swell at 15 seconds, packing a lot of punch (combined energy of 2354). That’s a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be powerful and lined up, but it’s on the big side for beginners. The wind is a gentle cross-off from the north, so the waves will be clean. This is a reef break, so that long period will give it shape. Expect some size on offer.

Friday morning, July 10th the swell drops to 6ft from the same direction, but it’s still got good energy (922). The wind is a cross-off from the SSE, keeping it clean. A solid option for a slightly smaller session.

Saturday morning, July 11th the swell is down to 4ft, but the wind is light offshore from the east, nearly glassy. It’s small, but clean. The combined energy is low (447).

Sunday morning, July 12th is the best call of the first week. The swell jumps back up to 7ft from the SW with a 15-second period, and the wind is glassy – dead calm from the ESE (combined energy of 1812). That’s a major positive. The waves will be clean, powerful, and well-shaped. This is for experienced surfers though, as it’s over 5ft.

Monday morning, July 13th is another highlight. A 7ft SW swell with a 17-second period (very long period) and a light cross-off breeze from the ESE. The energy is strong (2686). This is a big, powerful groundswell that will be best at this reef break. Again, for experts only.

Things get a bit messy from Tuesday, July 14th through the following week. The wind is less consistent, and conditions are often choppy or cross-onshore. There’s a gap of several days where the surf is marginal or poor, with only a few clean windows.

Thursday, July 23rd is a monster. The swell skyrockets to 15ft on Thursday morning, and then 16ft in the afternoon from the WSW with a 12-second period. The combined energy is massive (7456 in the afternoon). This is a huge event, but it’s for experts only. The wind is light or gentle, but the size is intimidating.

Friday, July 24th is the absolute standout of the entire 16-day forecast. A 13ft WSW swell with a 14-second period, combined with a light offshore wind from the east, makes for exceptional conditions. The energy is through the roof (6419). This is a once-in-a-while size for this break, and it will be clean. Only experts should even think about paddling out. This is a serious, big-wave day at Watermans.

So, to sum it up: the best surf is Sunday, July 12th morning and Monday, July 13th morning for the first week. The real beast is Friday, July 24th morning, but that’s a long way off and only for the brave. The rest of the time is either a bit messy or too big.

Rusty.
