La Punta Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for La Punta.

The water’s running warm right now at 87°F, which is much warmer than we’d normally expect for this time of year – a real treat if you’re not used to bathwater temps.

The first few days out of the gate are pretty ordinary, I’m not gonna lie. Monday afternoon the 3rd of August serves up a tiny 2ft south-west swell with a period of 12 seconds. The energy’s weak (166) and even though conditions are glassy, the swell’s just too small to get excited about. Tuesday and Wednesday are poor – mostly cross or cross-onshore winds, bumps on the surface, and the swell barely nudges 2ft to 2ft. We’re just waiting for something better.

The first real sign of life shows up on Thursday morning the 6th of August. The swell is still only 2ft from the south-west, but the period lengthens to 13 seconds and the combined energy climbs to 321 – moderate and just starting to pulse. And get this – glassy conditions again. That’s a window where you could sneak out for a fun little session if you’re keen, but it’s not the standout.

Friday the 7th of August sees the swell bump up to 3ft, south-south-west, with a lovely 17-second period. That’s groundswell, meaning better shaped waves and more push. The energy hits 680 – getting strong. Friday morning has offshore winds from the SSE, which will clean things up nicely. This is looking like the best of the bunch so far, but it’s flagged as marginal – tide could be a factor.

But honestly, the real standout in this whole run is Sunday the 16th of August. That morning you’ve got a 3ft south-south-west swell, 14-second period, and light cross-offshore winds from the NNE. The energy is moderate at 531, but the wind is clean and the forecast says “very good surf conditions.” That’s the session to circle on the calendar. It’s a bit further out, so keep an eye on it, but it’s got promise.

Otherwise, there’s a few other mornings with offshore winds and small swell – Monday the 10th of August and Wednesday the 12th of August both have cleanish winds and 2ft to 3ft south-south-west swell, but the energy’s moderate and the quality’s still marginal. Friday the 14th of August afternoon sees the swell pushing 4ft with 17 seconds and strong energy (1047), but the wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. If you’re an experienced surfer, that might still be worth a look – but it’s not the cleanest.

Overall, the consistent pattern here is the swell direction stays locked in the south-south-west quadrant, which is good for La Punta’s exposure. The crowds are listed as “sometimes” – so you’ll have company but not a circus. And the consistency is solid, so there’s nearly always something to paddle into.
