Table - best surf conditions forecast for Capbreton - La Piste over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for Capbreton - La Piste over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a pretty lean stretch. We’re looking at a solid run of tiny, weak swell for most of the period. The first real chance to get wet doesn’t come until the morning of Thursday, the 10th of July, and even then it’s nothing to write home about.
The overall pattern is small, clean waves on the mornings, but they get chopped up by the afternoon. The strongest wave energy we see is a modest 131 (combined energy) on the afternoon of Saturday, the 12th of July, but that comes with a cross-shore wind that messes it up. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no nasty surprises when you’re paddling out.
Let’s walk through the best bits. The standout morning is Saturday, the 12th of July. We’ve got light offshore wind from the East at 3 mph, glassy conditions, and a clean 2 ft swell from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds. The wave energy is a moderate 110, and it’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. For a more experienced surfer, this is the pick of the bunch – clean faces and a bit of push, but don’t expect any barrels.
The other morning that’s worth a mention is Sunday, the 13th of July. Another glassy morning with a 2 ft WNW swell, slight air from the South, and weak energy at 82. It’s small, but it’s clean. If you’re a beginner, these 2 ft days are actually ideal.
After that, things get grim. From the afternoon of the 13th right through to the morning of the 20th of July, we’re looking at a solid week of either no swell or poor, wind-affected conditions. The waves drop below 2 ft, and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore. There’s a long gap here with no real recommendations.
Then, on the morning of Monday, the 21st of July, we see a bump in size – 5 ft from the WNW – but it comes with onshore wind and a wave energy of 130. That’s a bit too much for beginners, and it’s not clean enough for experts. The period is only 6 seconds, so it’s a weak, short-period windswell.
The following days, the 21st through the 24th, stay poor. Onshore winds, rain showers, and messy conditions. The swell never really cleans up, and the wave energy stays low to moderate.
So, what’s the call? The best surf on offer is the morning of Saturday, the 12th of July. It’s not a classic, but it’s the cleanest window we’ve got. Head out early for a glassy, small-wave session. Later in the month, the 5 ft day on the 20th looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, given the wind and chop. Keep your expectations low, and you might just enjoy a few turns.
Rusty.
