The Lowdown

G’day, it’s Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Khalaktyrsky Beach.

Honestly, mate, the next 16 days are a bit of a mixed bag with a whole lot of ordinary in between. There’s only one true standout that’s got me a little excited, and it’s a late one. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there.

We start off on Sunday the 16th of August with a small, clean little wave in the morning – 2ft from the southeast, 10-second period, and glassy conditions. Combined wave energy is weak at 142, and it’s just surfable but very ordinary. The afternoon goes downhill quick with a cross-onshore breeze, so that’s not worth paddling out for.

Monday and Tuesday are pretty much a write-off. Onshore wind, poor conditions, small messy swell. Nothing to get out of bed for. Wednesday the 19th is cleaner with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is tiny – 2ft – and energy is weak. Just not enough push.

Thursday the 20th afternoon is where it starts to turn. The swell bumps up to 5ft from the south, but the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s going to be a bit lumpy. The combined energy is moderate at 415, and the conditions are clean. It says “expect good surf conditions,” so if you’re desperate, Thursday arvo might be your best bet before the next lull.

Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd are back to small, poor conditions with strong winds and weak energy. Sunday the 23rd is marginal with onshore wind. Monday the 24th afternoon goes glassy again, but it’s only 2ft and ordinary. The whole middle part of this forecast is a long stretch of nothing special.

Now, for the real standout. Mark your calendar for Thursday the 27th of August, morning session. The swell jumps to 7ft from the south, 8-second period. The combined wave energy is a massive 1233 – that’s strong, powerful surf. It says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers,” and with a light offshore breeze, it’ll be clean. At 7ft, this is getting solid, so beginners should sit this one out. This is the best on offer, no question.

After that, Friday the 28th morning cleans up nicely. 3ft from the south, 12-second period, glassy calm, and moderate energy at 270. It’s a good, fun-sized wave after the big Thursday swell. The rest of the run into the end of August is small and ordinary again, with weak energy and mostly onshore winds.

So the long and short of it is: a lot of flat, ordinary days, but Thursday the 27th morning is your clear winner – big, powerful, and clean. Get on it if you can handle it.

Stay salty,
Rusty
