The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with the Jacks Point lowdown. Overall, it’s a bit of a slow start, but we’ve got a couple of cracking windows to aim for.
Water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, nothing weird. The opening session on Sunday morning the 19th is worth a look: a glassy 0.7ft SSE groundswell with a long 15-second period and solid energy (439). The wind is dead calm, so it’ll be a clean, lined-up reef session. This is a good one for the early riser.
Sunday afternoon the wind swings cross-on, so that morning window is the one.
Now, Monday morning the 20th is the real standout. Crystal clear skies, a light offshore breeze, and a 3ft SSE swell with a very long 19-second period. The energy is strong (818). This is a proper groundswell for the experienced crew – it’ll be a bit more selective, but the lines wrapping into the point will be classy. Afternoon gets a bit cross-on, so be on it early.
Tuesday the 21st is a big drop: 2ft swell, weak energy (134), and a messy wind. Surfable, but hardly inspiring.
From Wednesday the 22nd through Saturday the 26th morning, just forget it. A long stretch of tiny, weak, and poor conditions. Not worth the drive.
Sunday the 26th brings another pulse. The morning is clean with a 2ft SSE swell (17-second period, 497 energy) and a light offshore breeze. Good. But the afternoon is even better: glassy conditions, 3ft SSE swell (15 seconds, 544 energy), and dead calm. This is a proper afternoon standout – clean, glassy, and fun-sized for the point.
Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th are back to small, ordinary waves. Then Wednesday the 29th sees the swell jump to 5ft from the ENE, but with a short 6-second period (299 energy). It’s a punchy, choppier swell. With clean cross-off winds, it’ll be a powerful session for the advanced crowd. Afternoon gets even bigger at 5ft (429 energy), but same short period. The morning is the better window.
From Thursday the 30th onward, it’s small and mostly forgettable. There’s a hint of a cleaner SSE swell on Sunday morning the 2nd of August (3ft, 15-second period, 345 energy), but with heavy rain and strong SW winds, the quality will be poor. Not one to chase.
So, the clear winners are Monday morning the 20th and Sunday afternoon the 26th. Both have glassy or light offshore conditions, solid groundswell, and good energy for the reef.
Stay safe, stay picky.
Rusty.
