The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks for Jacks Point.
Gonna be a real slow starter. The first few days are flat and tiny, not enough push to even bother. The water’s about 50°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s not freezing, but the swell sure is.
The first real chance to get a wave comes on Thursday, August 27th. That morning we see a 3ft swell out of the southeast, with a very long 17-second period – that’s proper groundswell. The combined energy is strong at 438, and with light offshore wind from the WNW, it’ll be clean and glassy. This is the standout of the forecast. The swell direction works well for this reef, and that long period will wrap in and give you some real nice, shaped waves with long lulls between sets. This is an advanced break, so leave the beginners on the beach.
The afternoon of the 27th is glassy too, with 2ft and 249 energy. A solid day all around.
After that, it drops right back off. Small, weak, and ordinary until Monday, August 31st. That Monday morning we’ve got another clean push: 2ft from the SE, a very long 16-second period, and offshore WNW wind. Energy at 271. It looks alright, but the wind shifts onshore in the afternoon, so hit it early.
The first week of September is mostly small and messy. There’s a tiny bump on the morning of Thursday, September 3rd with 3ft from the SE and a moderate 11-second period. The wind is cross-off from the SW so it’ll be clean, but the energy is only 168. It’s surfable, but nothin’ special.
Bottom line: The 27th of August is your day. Get out there Thursday morning or that glassy afternoon. The 31st of August morning is your second pick. The rest is mostly small and not worth missing work for.
Rusty.
