Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ixtapa Island over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Ixtapa Island. We’ve got a decent run of groundswell coming in, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag with the wind. The standout mornings are going to be the real payoffs, especially that first week.
The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. Just your usual tropical warmth.
We kick off the forecast period on Thursday, July 9th, with a clean 4ft SSW groundswell, period of 15 seconds – that’s proper long-period energy. The morning is where it’s at with a light cross-offshore breeze, making for clean waves. The combined energy is solid moderate (887). Afternoon turns onshore and choppy, so session early.
Friday the 10th is a clear standout. Glassy conditions in the morning – no wind at all – with the same 4ft SSW swell. That’s going to be butter-smooth, even if the reef is a little inconsistent. The wave energy is still at a good moderate level (761). Afternoon gets ruined by a 12 mph cross-onshore wind, so it’s a morning mission.
Saturday the 11th morning is another good one. 4ft SSW swell, 15 seconds, with a clean cross-offshore breeze. Combined energy 819. The afternoon gets a direct onshore wind, so no good.
Sunday the 12th is glassy again in the morning. Swell drops a touch to 4ft, but still a long 14-second period. Clean, glassy, and the energy is still moderate (704). Perfect for a longer session.
Monday the 13th morning is also glassy, with 3ft of SSW swell at 13 seconds. Not massive, but clean and fun. Energy (578) is still moderate.
Now, Tuesday the 14th – this is the big shift. The swell jumps to 7ft from the SSE, period 11 seconds. The morning is clean with a light cross-offshore wind, and the combined energy hits 1561 – that’s strong. This is excellent for experienced surfers only. It’s big, but it’s the best day on offer in the first week. The afternoon gets messy with a direct onshore and the swell jumps to 10ft – way too big for most, and choppy.
Wednesday the 15th morning is glassy again, with a 7ft S swell at 10 seconds. Combined energy 1076 – still strong. That’s a solid day for experienced crew. Afternoon brings a risk of thunderstorms and a strong 16 mph cross-onshore, so it’s a morning-only window.
The rest of the week into the second week settles down. From Thursday the 16th onward, the swell drops back to 3ft to 5ft, generally from the SSW or SW. The mornings are often clean with light winds, but the afternoons are mostly onshore or choppy. The standouts in the second week are the mornings of Sunday the 19th, Monday the 20th, Tuesday the 21st, Wednesday the 22nd, and Friday the 24th – all with 3ft to 4ft of long-period SW groundswell, clean conditions, and moderate energy.
The best of the best? Without a doubt, the glassy morning of Friday the 10th and the clean, powerful morning of Tuesday the 14th. The 14th is the one for the advanced crew – big swell, serious energy, but clean. The 10th is for everyone else wanting perfect, chest-high waves with no wind.
Crowds are possible here, so get there early for those clean windows.
Rusty out.
