Los Gatos Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, surf fans, it’s Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the ocean’s got cookin’ for our little corner of the world over the next couple of weeks.

We’ve got a solid run of groundswell pushing in, but it’s not gonna be a non-stop party. The early part of the week is all about the mornings, with clean conditions and some fun, rideable swell. There are a few rough afternoons to dodge with the onshores kicking up chop, so you gotta be smart about when you paddle out.

First up, for Saturday the 8th, the morning is looking like a good call. We’ve got about 4ft of SSW groundswell with a 16-second period, and the combined energy is sitting at a moderate 855. The wind is light off the land, keeping things clean. It’s not huge, but it’ll be fun. This spot is a reef, so that long period will wrap in nicely. Keep in mind, though, it’s an inconsistent break, so you'll be waiting for the sets, but the wait should be worth it.

Sunday the 9th is where it gets glassy. The morning is straight up glass with a light NNE breeze. Swell is still 4ft from the SSW, with a period of 14 seconds and moderate energy at 542. This might be one of the cleanest windows we see, so if you can, get out there early before the sea breeze mucks it up in the afternoon.

After a couple of average afternoons, Monday the 10th has another clean morning with a cross-offshore breeze. Swell’s a touch smaller at 4ft, but the period is 13 seconds. It’s a solid, clean surf.

Then we hit the mid-week. Tuesday the 11th morning will be glassy again with 3ft of SW swell and an 18-second period pushing energy in at a strong 937. That’s a beautiful long-period groundswell, but at a reef break, it should be a bit more lined up than a beachie.

Wednesday the 12th is a write-off with onshore winds and messy conditions. Better to do something else that day.

Thursday the 13th morning brings back the glass with a clean 3ft of SW swell at 16 seconds. Not huge, but clean.

Now, here’s where things start to get interesting. Our standout window kicks off on Friday the 14th. The morning is looking excellent. The swell jumps up to 4ft from the SW, with a long 18-second period, and the energy is building into strong territory at 1266. The wind is offshore and light. This is a proper groundswell, and it's looking like the best session on offer in this first stretch. It's not huge, but it's powerful and clean. This is one for the experienced surfers.

Saturday the 15th keeps the energy going. The morning has 5ft of SW swell, strong energy at 1203, and a light cross-offshore breeze, keeping it clean. This is another excellent morning with solid, pushy waves.

Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th both have clean mornings on offer. The swell backs off a touch to 4ft, but the periods are still in that 15-16 second range. The energy is moderate to strong, so there will still be plenty of push. Monday morning is looking especially fun with dead glassy conditions.

By the time we get into the week of the 18th, things start to settle down. The energy drops into the moderate range, and while there are still some clean mornings, the swell is more in the 3ft to 4ft range. The 20th and 21st still have some clean, cross-off mornings, but it's a smaller, more relaxed style of surf. It’s not the same power as that Friday and Saturday peak.

All in all, if I had to call it, that Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th mornings are the pick of the bunch. That’s when it’s biggest and the energy is strongest. It’s gonna be a fun ride. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit.

The afternoons are mostly a write-off, so be an early bird.
