The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, checking the next 16 days. It’s a quiet start, but there’s a big finish if you’ve got the patience and the skills.
For the first week, it’s flat. Honolua Bay is seeing tiny, weak NW swells, barely 1 foot, with a steady 18 mph cross-off wind. The water’s warm at 81°, which is normal for August. The energy is in the low double digits, just a sad little number. It’s clean-looking water, but there’s nothing to ride. This dry spell runs right through the end of the month.
We get a little bump around the 29th of August, a 4-foot ENE swell, but it’s chopped up with a short period and the wind is still blowing. It’s a tease.
The real action starts on the 1st of September. We see a 6-foot ENE swell, but the wind is still a fresh 18 mph, so it’s not clean. The 2nd and 3rd look similar, 5 to 6 feet of ENE swell, but the wind keeps it from being perfect.
The one to watch is the 7th of September (Monday) afternoon. That’s when Honolua Bay turns on. We’re looking at an 8-foot swell from the NE with a 12-second period. That’s a proper groundswell, and for a point break like Honolua, that’s the perfect setup. The wind drops to a light 6 mph cross-off, so it’s going to be glassy. The energy reading is a massive 1722, which is powerful. This is expert-only territory at that size, but the quality is going to be top-shelf. The crowd will be there, it’s always busy when it’s good, but it’s worth it.
The 5th and 6th of September have size and long periods, but the wind is still a bit strong. They’re promising, but the 7th afternoon is the clear winner.
So, don’t bother with the next week. The 7th of September afternoon is the only true standout. It’s a long way out, but it looks like it’s going to be a session for the ages for the experts.
