Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hammonds Reef over the next 16 days.
Right, mate, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for this area. It's a pretty quiet run, to be honest. We're looking at a 16-day window, but the swell is low and the conditions are pretty average.
We've got just one spot in the mix, and that's Hammonds Reef. It's a sheltered reef break, so it needs a decent swell from the west to really get going. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The first real chance of anything worth paddling out for is a while off. From Wednesday the 8th through to the 20th of July, it’s a real struggle. The swell is tiny, mostly below 3 ft, and the wind is a cross-on breeze from the WSW or SSW. It's just not doing anything for the wave quality. The combined swell energy is weak to moderate. It’s a long stretch of poor surf, and honestly, you’d be better off doing something else.
Now, there is a little glimmer of hope. On Monday the 20th of July, things start to look a bit more interesting. The swell picks up to 4 ft, coming from the south. The combined energy jumps to 526 – that's a solid moderate energy. The wind is still a light cross-on from the SW, but the swell direction is a better match for the spot. It’s still not a standout, but it's the best of a bad bunch. The swell period is 12 seconds, which is a decent groundswell. It's not huge, but it's the only time in the whole window where the swell size and energy are even worth talking about. The afternoon drops to 3 ft, but still okay.
The rest of the run after that goes back to being small and weak. So, if you're desperate, aim for the 20th of July. For everything else, the board can stay in the car.
Rusty.
