Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hammonds Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright mate, Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – this forecast for Hammonds Reef is grim.
We’ve got a massive dry spell to start. From the very beginning on Saturday, July 11th, right through to Tuesday, July 14th, there’s absolutely nothing worth talking about. A big gap of no-surf days.
Things get slightly interesting on Wednesday morning, July 15th. It’s glassy – dead flat calm – and there’s a tiny 3ft swell from the WNW. The period is short at 6 seconds, so it’s weak, but the combined wave energy is moderate (145). It’s surfable, but just barely. That afternoon the swell picks up a bit to 4ft from the west, but the wind swings cross-onshore and ruins it. Don’t bother.
After that, it’s a long, sad story. Almost every single session is labeled poor. The wind is almost always cross-onshore or onshore. You get a few days with some energy – like the afternoon of July 18th (combined energy 311) and the morning of July 21st (291) – but the swell is tiny, around 2ft to 2ft, and the wind is consistently messing up the surface. For a sheltered reef that wants a clean westerly swell with offshore wind, this is just not happening.
Water temp is 64°, which is about 2° above the average for this time of year – a little warmer than usual, so that’s the only nice thing I can say.
There is no standout. The only window is that tiny, glassy Wednesday morning on July 15th, and even then it’s nothing to write home about. If you’re a beginner, you could mess around, but for anyone else, this stretch is a write-off. It’s a blank run that makes sense for a place that just isn’t lining up with the swell right now.
Rusty.
