The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’ve gotta level with you – it’s been a tough look for the region around Ha Golshim for the next couple of weeks. That little north-west facing gem is sheltered and needs a specific angle, which just isn’t lining up with the swell we’ve got.
First thing you gotta know is, the water is sitting at a balmy 86°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Nice for a paddle, but won’t make the waves any better.
We kick off with almost nothing. For the first two weeks, from August 21st right through to early September, it’s a big fat run of “poor surf conditions” on the cards. The wave heights are tiny – we’re talking 1.0ft to 3ft at best – and the period is short and weak, mostly around 4 to 8 seconds. The combined energy barely cracks double digits for the most part, with the first few days only registering a feeble 7 to 25 (combined energy of all swells directed here). The wind is all over the place but mostly onshore or cross-onshore, messing up what little texture there is. There are a few moments of glassy water – like Monday morning the 24th, Tuesday morning the 25th, and Sunday morning the 30th – but with only 1ft to 2ft of weak, short-period swell, it’s barely a ripple. Not worth chasing.
We finally see a slight pulse right at the end of the run. On the morning of Friday, 4th September, we get a little jump – 3ft with a 7-second period from the WNW. The wind goes glassy, and the energy hits 84 (combined energy of all swells directed here). The commentary finally calls it "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." That’s the only time in the entire outlook it scores a 1 out of 10. It’s a brief window of clean tiny surf before the wind messes it up again in the afternoon.
So, let’s be honest. There is no standout session here. The best you can hope for is a fragile, glassy morning on September 4th, but the swell is tiny and inconsistent. The crowd profile says it can get busy sometimes, but honestly, there’s nothing to crowd over. For the first 14 days, you’d be better off doing just about anything else. The setup is too weak for surfing; even the kite crew would be struggling for consistent wind.
Stick with it – the blank runs are normal for this spot when the swell doesn't have the right angle, and the forecasts can change.
Stay tuned.
Rusty.
