Table - best surf conditions forecast for BackDoor (Haifa) over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking straight at the charts for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch for a wave. The forecast is packed with small, weak swell that barely gets the blood pumping.
We’ve only got one spot on the radar, BackDoor in Haifa. It’s an advanced reef break, and it’s inconsistent, so you need to be patient and know what you’re doing out there. The water is sitting at a balmy 83°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so the boardies are on.
The first real chance for a paddle comes on the morning of Wednesday the 15th of July. We’ll see a tiny 2 ft swell out of the WNW, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is pretty weak at 75, so it’s not going to have any punch. The morning is clean with a light cross-offshore breeze, making those small waves look surfable, but it’s very ordinary. The afternoon turns a bit onshore and choppy, so you want to be in the water early.
After that, it’s right back to tiny, poor conditions for days. A lot of mornings are clean but with next to no swell. The 25th of July morning shows another little bump – 2 ft from the WNW, also with weak energy (67). It’s another clean window but just as underwhelming.
The only time we see energy that even hits three digits is on the morning of Sunday the 26th of July, with a combined energy of 125. But even then, the swell is only 3 ft from the W/NW with a short period of 8 seconds. That’s still small and weak. The winds are clean in the morning, but the waves need a lot more size and period to make BackDoor work as a proper reef break. This is not the spot to be chasing small, short-period swell.
Honestly, if you’re a surfer, this is a hard watch. There are no standouts. The swell is too small, the period is too short, and the energy is too weak to get excited about. If the wind picks up, the bay might look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. We’re looking at a long, flat run with only a couple of tiny, clean windows that are barely worth a mention. Things can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get your hopes up for.
Rusty.
