The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s look at what’s on the cards for the Ashdod area over the next 16 days.
Alright, straight up – this is a rough stretch. There’s a long, long gap of flat to tiny, messy conditions before we finally see a pulse of real swell. The first week and a half are basically a write-off for surfers. From now through to the morning of Friday the 25th of July, we’re stuck with tiny, weak waves, poor quality, and mostly onshore or cross-shore winds. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises.
The only real standout in this whole period comes on the morning of Saturday the 25th of July. That’s the day we’ve been waiting for. Hakshtot (Ashdod) will see a solid lift in swell – we’re talking 5 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s a moderate wave energy (254) – the most punch we’ve seen by a long shot. The wind will be light and cross-offshore from the SSW, which should keep the surface clean. This is a beginner-friendly break, so the size is manageable, and the offshore wind will make it smooth. But this is a spot that’s exposed to the west, and the swell is hitting the optimum direction, so it’s worth a look. Saturday afternoon, the wind shifts onshore and the quality drops off, so make the most of the morning.
The morning of Sunday the 27th of July offers a small window of marginal surf, with 3 ft from the WNW and a light cross-on breeze. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either – just something to keep in mind if you’re desperate.
The very end of the run, on the morning of Thursday the 30th of July and Friday the 31st of July, we get some glassy conditions with tiny waves around 2 ft to 3 ft. The energy is low (103 and 46), and the quality is described as very ordinary. It’s surfable, but don’t expect any magic.
Honestly, if you’re in the area, the 25th of July morning is the only call I’d be making. The rest of the time, it’s a waiting game. The setup is mostly beach, so if the wind picks up, it’s more interesting for the kite crew than the paddle crew.
Rusty.
