The Lowdown
Alright mate, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and ordinary for Hakshtot (Ashdod). Honestly, there’s no real swell to get excited about. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak waves ahead, with a lot of days where the wind is just gonna mess things up. The first real glimmer of anything surfable doesn’t show up until Saturday the 29th of August, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about.
The water is sitting at 86°F right now, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
From Friday the 21st all the way through to Friday the 28th of August, conditions are consistently poor. We’re talking swell heights barely pushing 2 ft, with weak energy readings staying well under 100 – often just a measly 6 to 15 in the combined energy. The morning glass-offs are a tease, but the swell is just too small and short-period (4 to 7 seconds) to form anything with a face. The afternoons get blown out by onshore NW winds at 9 to 12 mph, so those sessions are a total write-off.
The first real chance of something rideable comes on Saturday morning, the 29th of August. The early session is glassy, with a slight increase in swell to around 3 ft from the WNW, but the period is still only 8 seconds – short and weak. The combined energy climbs to 74, which is still weak. It’s tagged as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” so don’t expect any barrels. It’s a beginner-friendly spot by nature, and this swell is tiny enough for anyone to handle, but it’s not going to be memorable.
Sunday morning, the 30th of August, offers a similar story: glassy conditions, 3 ft WNW swell, 8-second period, and energy at 51. Again, surfable but very ordinary. The afternoon winds will ruin it, as usual.
After that, from Monday the 31st of August through to Saturday the 5th of September, we’re back to poor surf conditions. The swell drops back to 1 ft to 2 ft, with energy values mostly in the teens and twenties. A few mornings are glassy, but the swell is just too weak and short-period to bother with. The best you can hope for is a knee-high wobble.
So, what’s the standout? There isn’t a real standout in this window. If you’re desperate, Saturday morning the 29th of August is the best on offer – glassy, with the biggest swell of the fortnight (around 3 ft) and a slightly higher energy rating (74). But keep your expectations low. For a beginner, it’s fine, but anyone looking for a proper wave will be disappointed.
No point in chasing anything else. This is a flat spell for Hakshtot. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a long wait for anything decent.
Rusty.
