Alright, here’s the same story in feet and Fahrenheit, for those who think that way.
Right, gather ’round, folks. Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks down at Hakshtot (Ashdod).
Overall, honest truth: it’s a flat spell. We’ve got a long, empty gap staring us in the face. The first real whisper of something rideable doesn't show up until the morning of Wednesday, July 15th. Up until then, we’re looking at days of small, weak, and messy surf with cross or onshore winds turning things into a washing machine. Swell energy is low, barely hitting two digits for most of that stretch. Water temp is 81° – a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, according to the anomaly figure of 3°, so the water feels nice, but the ocean’s got no push.
For the standalone standout, the only day that even sniffs at being worth a paddle is the morning of Wednesday, July 15th. Swell bumps up to 3ft from the WNW, period at 8 seconds – short-period swell, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and fat, but better than the near-zero we’ve had. The energy climbs to 125 (moderate), and the wind is light from the west, giving us a slight cross-onshore that won’t chop it up too bad. Still, the file calls it "marginal" – so we’re talking small, soft waves for beginners. The break is exposed to swell, which helps, and it’s fairly consistent, but the optimum direction is west and the swell is coming from the WNW, so it’s not a perfect alignment. No mention of crowds, so you might have it mostly to yourself. Don’t expect barrels – this is a paddler’s session for a few knee-to-waist high lumps.
After that, Thursday the 16th of July morning has a tiny bit of hope with 2ft, glassy conditions, and a period of 7 seconds, but it’s weak (energy at 47). The rest of the window fades back into flat or choppy nothingness through to Sunday the 19th.
So, in short, you’ve got about ten days of no surf, then one marginal morning, then back to flat. If you’re desperate, paddle out on the 15th morning with a log. Otherwise, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
