The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer, but fair warning—up front, the 16-day window’s pretty thin for any real fun.
Right now, the only spot we’ve got any data for is Dosim Beach, and the story is grim. From Thursday the 13th right through to Friday the 28th of August, it’s a near-continuous run of weak, sloppy surf. Honestly, there's a huge gap with no worthwhile waves. Don’t get your hopes up.
The water temp at Dosim Beach is sitting at 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year—nice for a dip, but not for surfing.
Let’s call it straight: the whole sixteen days is a write-off for paddle surfing. Swell heights top out at a measly 4 ft on Monday the 17th morning, but the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s weak and wonky. On that same Monday afternoon, the wind goes straight onshore from the WNW at 12 mph, making a choppy mess. The combined swell energy barely hits 121 (moderate) on the best day, but it’s paired with poor quality.
Even the glassy mornings—like Tuesday the 25th, Wednesday the 26th, and Thursday the 27th—see tiny 2 ft to 2 ft swells with 6-second periods. Those tiny lines have no push. Good for a float, bad for a ride.
The wind patterns are a killer here. Most afternoons get a moderate cross-onshore or onshore breeze, and the few mornings with light cross-shore wind still can’t save the tiny, short-period energy.
Because the wave quality is just poor throughout, and this is a beach break, I’d say the setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing through the whole period. Save your wax.
Stay tuned, though—forecasts change. For now, it’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
