The Lowdown
Alright, I’ve looked over the numbers for Dosim Beach for the next 16 days. To be honest, there isn’t a single surfable day in this whole forecast window—it’s going to be a long, quiet spell.
The trouble starts now. For the first week, from Thursday the 20th of August right through to the end of the month, the swell is tiny. You’re looking at nothing more than 1ft to 2.3ft, and the period is short—mostly 3 to 7 seconds. That’s just windswell mush with no push behind it. The combined wave energy is weak, coming in well under 100 for nearly every session. Even on the morning of Saturday the 29th, when the swell hits 3ft with a 7-second period out of the WNW, the energy only reaches 78. For a beach break, that’s still barely a ripple.
The wind and conditions don’t help either. Most days have cross-onshore or onshore wind, making the surface choppy or messy. There’s one brief moment on Tuesday morning, the 25th of August, where it goes glassy with a light breeze from the southwest—dead calm, looks beautiful—but there’s just no swell to ride. A clean ocean with nothing to push you along.
We move into September and it’s more of the same. The first few days of the month still have tiny swells between 1ft and 1.6ft, with periods stuck at 5 to 6 seconds. The wind stays mostly cross-onshore, sometimes from the north or northwest, and that combined energy rarely gets above 30. Friday the 4th of September morning sees a slight uptick to 2ft out of the west, with a light cross-onshore breeze, but the period is only 6 seconds, and the energy sits at a low 30. It’s not enough to motivate a paddle out.
Overall, this is a long stretch of flat, wind-affected conditions. For an exposed beach break like Dosim, the water’s warm—the temperature is sitting around 85.8° on the first day, about 3.6° above average for the time of year—but there’s just no swell to enjoy it. If you’re a surfer, you’re looking at a blank run that lasts the entire 16 days. It’s more normal here to get these quiet spells, but we gotta hope the forecasts change.
Take care, and keep an eye on the charts.
