The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here again, lookin' at Dosim Beach for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be honest, it's looking pretty grim. We're in for a long, dry spell of surf, or lack thereof. The swell is tiny and the wind just won't cooperate.
The water is sitting at about 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you can have a nice warm swim.
The first time you might see anything even worth a glance is the morning of Monday, August 19th. Even then, it’s only about 3ft from the WNW with a short 7-second period. The combined swell energy is weak, around 59, and there’s a light wind coming from the side-onshore. It's the best of a bad bunch, but that's not saying much.
If you're absolutely desperate for a paddle, the morning of Tuesday, August 20th is your best shot. You’ll get a clean-ish 2ft from the WNW. The period is short at 6 seconds, so the energy is super low (35), but a light cross-shore breeze from the SW might line up a few tiny little waves for a learner.
For the rest of this 16-day window, it’s all tiny slop, onshore wind, and poor conditions. From now until the 19th, just leave the board in the car. This break is inconsistent and exposed, so it gets messy real quick. After the 20th, it’s back to a whole lot of nothing.
Same story for the end of the month – even less energy. It’s just one of those periods. A run of flat days like this is pretty normal around here when the conditions line up wrong.
