The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’m gonna level with you: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and uninspiring for Dosim Beach. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak surf ahead, and the conditions are only going to line up for a couple of brief windows. Let’s break it down day by day.

Right off the bat, we’re looking at a real dry spell. From Monday the 7th through to Tuesday the 15th, there’s basically nothing worth paddling out for. The swell stays tiny, mostly in that 1ft to 2ft range, with periods around 6-7 seconds – that’s just windswell chop, nothing with any push. The energy is weak, hovering between 15 and 54 in the combined swell energy stakes, which tells you there’s just no power in the water. The water is a warm 86°F, which is 4°F warmer than the long-term average – that’s a serious anomaly, mate, unusually warm for this time of year. The mornings are mostly glassy and clean, but with no swell to work with, it’s just flat and pretty. Afternoons get a bit of onshore breeze, but it doesn’t matter much when there’s nothing to surf.

Our first real (and only) standout is on the morning of Wednesday the 9th. It’s not pumping, but it’s the best of a bad bunch. We’ve got a 2ft swell from the WNW with an 8-second period. The energy is still weak at 54, and the break is exposed to that WSW direction, so it’s not ideal, but the conditions are glassy with a light NNW air. It’s surfable, but really, it’s just a grovel on a longboard. This one’s just barely more interesting than the rest.

The second and last window of note comes much later, on the morning of Thursday the 17th. That’s over a week away, so treat this as a long-range promise that could easily change. We see a slight pulse of swell – 3ft from the NW with a 6-second period. Energy is still low at 49, but it’s the biggest swell of the whole outlook. It’s glassy with a NNE breeze, which will keep it clean. Again, don’t expect barrels, just some small, clean waves for a beginner to get a few fun ones. There’s still nothing here that’s going to get the heart racing.

From the 18th right through to the 22nd, it’s back to the flatness. The swell bottoms out, dropping to 0.7ft by Tuesday the 22nd, with periods down to 4-5 seconds. That’s just noise on the surface. The combined energy drops to single digits, which is as weak as it gets. The onshores pick up in the afternoons, only adding to the chop on an already flat ocean.

So, the honest truth is: Dosim Beach has nothing good on offer for the next 16 days. There’s a gap of about seven days of nothing at the start. The only two sessions even worth mentioning are that Wednesday morning the 9th, and that Thursday morning the 17th, and even then, only if you’re truly desperate for a splash. The swell is too small, the periods too short, and the energy too weak. Given how consistent it usually is, a blank run like this won’t last forever, but forecasts can change, so keep an eye out. For now, it’s not even worth checking the tide charts.

Rusty out.
