The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. I’ve scoured the charts for Dosim Beach, and I gotta tell you, it’s a tough watch. The entire 16-day outlook is a flat spell. The swell is tiny, the periods are short, and the wind is almost always on it or cross-onshore, just messing up any chance of a wave. We’re talking a big, empty gap from the start to the finish.
We start on Saturday, August 8. A few clouds in the morning with a cross-shore wind from the SW at 9 mph, stirring up a weak 2ft swell from the WNW. The energy is a measly 30. The afternoon is a total write-off with a 12 mph onshore wind. Water temp is 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Sunday, August 9, the morning has a light cross-onshore breeze at 6 mph, but that 3ft WNW swell is just not happening. It’s marginal, at best. The afternoon gets blown out again.
This pattern just keeps going. Monday, August 10, all the way through the week, it’s nothing but tiny, weak waves between 1ft and 2ft, with short periods. The wind is a constant headache – onshore or cross-onshore, just creating ripples and chop. There’s not a single standout session.
We get a brief moment of glassy conditions on the morning of Friday, August 14, but it’s on a tiny 1ft swell. You’d be lucky to get wet. Same story for the morning of Friday, August 21 – another glassy start, but only 1ft of swell. It’s a real bummer.
The only real change comes around Monday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 18. The swell bumps up to 3ft to 4ft from the WNW. The energy gets into the moderate range (up to 131), but it’s still a short period swell (7 seconds), and the wind is still onshore or cross-onshore. The report calls it "poor surf conditions." For a beach break like Dosim, that onshore wind just makes it a messy, blown-out wall. It’s honestly more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
After that, it’s back to tiny, insignificant waves for the rest of the window. No crowds to worry about, because nobody’s gonna be out.
It’s just one of those blank runs for the area. Nothing on offer. Keep the board in the truck, but don’t hold your breath. Things can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
