The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight about Dosim Beach – this 16-day window is a tough one. The swell is small, the period is short, and the wind is almost always on it. There’s no standout wave to get excited about, but let’s walk through what we’ve got, because a flat spell can’t last forever.
The best chance to get wet is on Tuesday morning, September 1st. We’re looking at a tiny 3 ft swell from the WNW, with a short period of 7 seconds, so don’t expect much push. The combined energy is weak, sitting at 59 (moderate wave energy). The saving grace? The wind is glassy, calm as can be, which makes the water look like a mirror. The water temperature is 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. For a beginner, those tiny, clean waves might be worth a paddle, but the consistency is inconsistent, and the crowds are always there. It’s not going to be a classic.
The rest of the first week is a write-off. Wednesday morning has a glassy start with 1 ft swell, but it’s so small and weak (16 combined energy) it’s barely surfable. By the afternoon, the wind swings onshore from the NW at 20 km/h, and it’s game over. Thursday through Saturday stay small, with onshore or cross-onshore winds, and the energy drops into the single digits. Not worth suiting up.
Sunday, September 6th, the morning shows a slight bump to 2 ft from the WNW, period 7 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 41 (moderate wave energy). The wind is light cross-onshore from the WSW at 10 km/h, so it’s a bit bumpy, but the forecast calls it marginal. If you’re desperate, you could scratch a wave, but the afternoon turns onshore again.
The second week offers a few more glassy mornings, like Monday September 7th (2 ft, 8 secs, 50 energy) and Tuesday September 8th (2 ft, 7 secs, 40 energy), but the swell is tiny and weak. The sets are short-period, so the waves will be crumbly and lack power. The wind is glassy or light, which is a plus, but the crowds at Dosim Beach are always there, so you’ll be sharing the slop.
From September 10th onward, the swell drops back to 1 ft to 2 ft, the energy is weak (under 30), and the onshore afternoon winds kill any chance of fun. The last few days, September 14th to 16th, are flat and hopeless. The combined energy is in the single digits (7 to 16), and the swell height is 1 ft. Honestly, it’s more of a kiteboarding breeze than a surf session.
Bottom line: The only semi-surfable window is the first few glassy mornings of September, but even then, it’s weak, small, and crowded. Don’t hold your breath for a stand-out day. For an exposed beach break like this, we need a bigger swell and a better direction. The long-range looks empty, but forecasts can change. Stay tuned.
Rusty.
