The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s doing for Dosim Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet picture, mate. There’s not much surf worth paddling out for across this whole 16-day stretch. We’re looking at a long run of weak, short-period waves out of the WNW and NW, with mostly onshore or cross-onshore breezes messing up the face. It’s not looking like a good time for catching waves on a surfboard.
For the first week, from Monday 17 August right through until Saturday 29 August, we’ve got tiny swell. Most days the energy is weak, often under 100 (13 to 84), and the waves are only 1ft to 3ft. The period is short, around 5 to 7 seconds – that’s just wind chop, not proper groundswell. The winds are mostly cross-onshore or onshore, and when it’s glassy on Friday 21 August morning, the swell is only 2ft. There’s no push, no power. We only get one day with a score of 1 out of 10, on Monday 17 August morning, when the water is 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, but the surf itself is marginal. Everything else is scoring zero.
Then there’s a gap of poor to no surf until Saturday 29 August morning. That morning we finally see a bump in energy to moderate, with a reading of 185, and the swell comes up to 4ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds. That’s the most size we’ll see all fortnight, and the wind is light and cross-shore. But even then, the surf quality is still rated as poor, so it’s not going to be clean. The water temp isn’t given for that day, but it might be worth a look if you're desperate for a wave. Still, the energy is moderate, and it’s not a standout day for proper surfing.
After that, we fade back into weak little waves under 3ft for the rest of the window, with moderate onshore breezes. No real standouts, no decent wave quality. If you’re looking to kite surf, all this cross-onshore wind and lumpy small chop could be more interesting, but for paddle surfing, there's nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
