The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a long stretch ahead at Dosim Beach, but I’ll call it how it is: for the next 16 days the surf is leaning heavily towards the poor side. There’s a fair gap right at the start, with nothing really worth paddling out for from Thursday 16th through to Sunday 26th July. That’s almost a week and a half of flat or junky conditions. The water temp is sitting at 82°, and that’s about 2° warmer than average for this time of year – a touch above normal, but not wild.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up a fair way out – Monday morning 27th July. That’s the only day in the whole run that even gets a whisper of a chance. Early on Monday, we’ll see a 3ft swell from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is weak (97). The wind is light from the WNW, blowing straight onshore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. It’s marginal at best, but if you’re desperate, you could get a couple of small, weak waves. Tuesday morning 28th July is similar – 3ft, 7-second period from the WNW, light onshore wind, combined energy even weaker (70). Again, only a 1-out-of-10 kind of morning, and it’s a real gamble.
The standout – if you can even call it that – is Saturday 25th July, but it’s not a true standout for clean surfing. The morning shows a 4ft swell from the WNW with an 8-second period, combined energy at 186 (moderate). The wind is light from the SW, so it’s cross-shore with a bit of chop. For a beginner spot with inconsistent waves, having that much swell, cross-shore wind, and a beach setup means it’s more likely to be a messy, choppy mess. Honestly, it’s looking more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer at Dosim Beach. The afternoon drops to 4ft, onshore wind, and still poor.
Given the inconsistency and the ratings, Dosim Beach is a beginner’s spot, but for the next 16 days the only time you might get a wave is on Monday 27th or Tuesday 28th morning – and even then, it’s a marginal, onshore affair. The rest is just blown-out or flat. Still, with the area being inconsistent anyway, this blank run isn’t completely abnormal. Forecasts can always change, but for now, leave the board at home.
