Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight up with ya, the swell window’s been pretty damn quiet and the wind is mostly a pain in the neck. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak surf and poor conditions.
Right off the bat, on Monday the 6th of July, there’s barely a pulse. Swell is only 3 ft from the WNW with a short period of 7 seconds and weak wave energy (66). The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 82°, which is a bit unusual for the time of year. But with a cross-onshore breeze, it’s just choppy and messy. There's nothing to get excited about here. This pattern pretty much holds for the entire first week and into the second. The waves stay tiny—between 2 ft and 4 ft—and the wind stays from the SW or W, mostly cross-on or onshore, keeping it chopped out. The only slightly better energy we see is on the morning of Wednesday the 8th of July, where the combined energy bumps up to a moderate 137, but it’s still only 3 ft of short-period WNW swell and the wind is messy.
Truth is, there isn’t a single standout session in the whole 16-day run. For a beginner spot like Dosim Beach (Dosim-Beach), it is inconsistent and usually always crowded. The swell direction is WSW optimum, but we’re getting WNW—not really matching up well. The waves are too small and weak for any decent ride, and the winds just won’t clean it up. With the swell being under 3 ft most days and mostly short period, you’re looking at tiny, weak bumps.
For the second week, things don’t improve. From the 14th of July through to the 21st, we’re still looking at the same story: swell below 3 ft, short periods between 6 and 8 seconds, and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. The energy stays low to moderate, with the highest reading only hitting 105 on the afternoon of the 20th of July, but again, it’s onshore and messy.
Honestly, this is a blank run for the area. If you’re a kite surfer, the stronger afternoon winds might look interesting, but for paddle surfing, you’re better off waiting for the next weather system to bring some proper swell. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a poor stretch.
Rusty.
