The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one. We’ve got a 16-day window ahead, and honestly, the pickings are slim. The first proper surfable day doesn’t pop up until the very end of the period, so we're looking at a long stretch of flat, poor, or just plain messy conditions.
For the first 10 days from now, it’s a write-off. From Friday the 28th of August right through to Monday the 7th of September, every session at Dosim Beach is flagged as poor surf conditions. The swell is tiny, often under 3 feet, mostly from the WNW, with short periods around 6 to 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is weak, sitting at just 6 to 322 units, and the wind is almost always cross or onshore, adding chop to already small, weak waves. There’s a little bump of 5 feet on Sunday the 30th of August morning, but with a risk of thunderstorms and onshore wind, it’s not worth paddling out for.
The only glimmer of hope comes on Monday the 7th of September. Dosim Beach sees a glassy morning, with the wind going calm. The swell is small – 3 feet from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds – and the combined energy is still only moderate at 87. The conditions are described as "surfable but very ordinary." It’s not a standout, but after a week of nothing, it’s the best we’ve got. The water temperature anomaly is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, it’s back to flat, poor conditions for the rest of the second week. Tuesday morning the 8th of September is glassy but with only 2 feet, and Wednesday the 9th of September is calm and glassy but only 2 feet. There’s no real energy, and the swell direction is WNW, which is not the optimum for Dosim Beach (WSW is). This spot is inconsistent and exposed, and for this stretch, it’s just not delivering.
Bottom line: if you’ve got a kite, the windier days might be more interesting than the paddle surfing. For surfers, wait until Monday the 7th of September morning for a chance at a clean, glassy session – but don’t expect much. The rest of the period is a blank run.
