The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Dosim Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Truth be told, it’s looking pretty flat and quiet for the most part. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell and a lot of onshore wind messing it up. There are a couple of brief windows where things clean up, but they’re not exactly classics. The best bet is to keep your expectations low and your board waxed just in case.
Starting out, the forecast is a write-off right through the end of August and into the first few days of September. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1 ft to 3 ft, with periods of 5 to 7 seconds – that’s basically wind chop. The wind is mostly cross-onshore or directly onshore, creating poor conditions. Water temp is sitting at a warm 86°°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. You’ll find the combined swell energy is weak, often below the 100 mark, like the 65 (moderate cross-onshore) on the 29th or the 74 on the 31st.
We finally see a little hope on the morning of Tuesday, 1st of September. The wind goes glassy – dead calm – and while the swell is only 3 ft from the WNW with an 8-second period and a combined energy of 69, it’s surfable. The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," which is about right. It won't win any awards, but if you’re desperate for a paddle and some small, clean waves, that’s your window. That glassy wind is the only highlight.
Then it's back to the doldrums. From Tuesday afternoon right through to the morning of Monday, 7th of September, it’s another stretch of tiny swell and poor wind. Expect more 1 ft to 2 ft dribble with onshore breezes. The combined energy stays well under 50 for most of it, with many days in the 20s or 30s. The morning of the 7th is the next and maybe the best opportunity. Again, we get a glassy morning, with a slightly better 4 ft swell from the WNW, an 8-second period, and a combined energy of 173 – that’s a moderate pulse. The water is still warm and the comment is the same: "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." It’s the biggest swell in the whole outlook, but it’s not a stand-out. The afternoon turns choppy again.
A couple of other glassy mornings pop up on the 9th and 10th of September, but the swell on those days is tiny – 0.7 ft and 2 ft – so you’d be lucky to find a rideable ripple.
All in all, there’s no true stand-out session here. Dosim Beach is inconsistent and exposed to a WSW optimum swell direction, but the WNW swell we’re seeing is just not delivering. The glassy windows on the 1st and the 7th of September are your best shots for a clean wave, but don't expect much push. For the beginner crowd, the tiny sizes are manageable, but the lack of quality makes it a grind.
Stay patient, check the charts again in a few days, and don’t sell your board just yet.
Rusty.
