The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's check out what Dosim Beach has cookin' over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be honest, it's gonna be a grind. The onshore wind and lack of any real swell means we're staring at a pretty forgettable stretch.

We start off on Tuesday the 15th. Sky's clear, but that's the only good thing. We got a weak, short-period swell out of the NW at 2ft, and a cross-onshore breeze blowing 12 mph shredding it up. The combined wave energy is real weak (24), and the water's at 86°, which is 4° warmer than normal for this time of year. Not that it makes any difference to the waves. It's just junk.

The next few days are more of the same. Wednesday the 16th morning looks glassy, but it's on that same 2ft dribble with no power. By afternoon, the cross-onshore wind is back on it. Thursday and Friday are all tiny, weak, and mostly onshore. Not worth paddling out, plain and simple.

Saturday the 19th morning shows a tiny bump to 3ft swell out of the WNW, and the combined energy climbs to 70, but a light cross-onshore breeze will put a little wrinkle on it. The call is marginal. Still not great.

Then we hit a real dead zone. From Sunday the 20th all the way through Tuesday the 29th, the data is just poor condition after poor condition. There are a few glassy mornings in there, like the 20th and 21st, but they're on tiny 2ft to 2ft waves. Nothing to get excited about. The periods are all short (6-8 seconds), so it's just weak, sloppy windswell. This is a long stretch of nothing, maybe 10 days where you're not missing a thing.

Then, finally, a little flicker of hope. On Thursday the 24th afternoon, the combined wave energy jumps to 133 – that's moderate juice – with a 3ft swell from the WNW at 8 seconds. Still onshore though, so it'll be bumpy.

The one real standout in this whole 16-day window is the morning of Friday the 25th. We've got a 4ft swell out of the WNW, period at 8 seconds, and zero wind. It's glassy as a lake. The combined energy is a solid 138. The report calls it "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," which in this forecast is about as close to a thumbs up as we get. The swell direction (WNW) isn't a perfect match for the ideal (WSW), but glassy conditions on a 4ft wave is the best we're gonna see. This one's for the experienced crew who can make something out of a clean but average wave. After that morning, the wind swings cross-onshore again, and it's back to the same old story.

The weekend of the 26th and 27th sees the energy drop back into the moderate range (89-109), but it's all cross-onshore and choppy. The final bit from the 28th onwards fades back into the weak zone.

So, the bottom line is: keep your expectations low. If you are desperate for a session, set your alarm for the morning of Friday the 25th for the cleanest conditions on offer. The rest of this stretch is either flat, blown out, or both.
