The Lowdown
Alright, grab your board and let’s talk about the next couple of weeks, because Dosim Beach is the only game in town, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a stretch of small, weak surf ahead, with a couple of windows that might get your hopes up, but you need to be patient.
Right off the bat, for Sunday the 16th, it’s small but rideable. We’re looking at waves around 3ft, coming from the WNW. It’s not going to blow you away, but the wind is glassy in the morning, which will make it look clean. The swell energy is weak, sitting at 116, so don’t expect any real punch. Later in the day, the wind swings onshore from the NW and the vibe gets messy. Not worth your time.
Monday the 17th is a step down. The swell drops to 3ft and the energy is even weaker at 86. It’s pretty marginal, and the wind is already on it in the morning. You’re scrapping for little crumbly ones, and it’s likely to be a frustrating one. The rest of the week, from the 18th through the 24th, is a real flat spell. We’re talking wave heights from 1ft to 3ft, with periods under 7 seconds. That’s weak, short-period junk. The energy readings are in the teens and twenties, which is barely a ripple. The mornings do have some glassy moments, like on the 19th and 21st, but with waves that small, it’s just not worth paddling out for. You’d be better off finding a skate spot. This is a solid 5-day gap where there’s nothing on offer.
The surf tries to come back towards the end of the month. The 28th is still poor, but the 29th sees a bit of a push. That Saturday morning the swell bumps up to 4ft, and the energy jumps to 181, which is starting to get into moderate territory. Still, it’s coming from the WNW with a 7-second period, which is a short-period swell. It’ll be a bit bumpy, and the onshore wind in the afternoon chops it up. The morning is your best bet, but it’s not a clean standout.
Sunday the 30th looks similar, with 4ft on offer and the energy up at 196. Again, the wind is cross-shore, so it’s not going to be glassy. It’s a step in the right direction, but the quality is missing. Then we roll into Monday the 31st of August, and that’s the best of the bunch. The swell is 4ft, but the energy is a solid 157, and the wind is light and offshore in the morning. That’s a real window to get some clean surf at Dosim. It’s still not huge, but with that wind, it’ll be fun. The crowd is always there, so expect company.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, so your usual summer suit works.
So, overall, don't get too excited for the first half of this period. There’s a real flat spell for almost a week straight. But that final stretch, particularly the morning of the 31st, looks like the standout. It’s the cleanest and most promising window we’ve got. The long-range stuff is promising but I’d wait to get too amped until we see it closer.
This is Rusty, signing off.
