The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you about Dosim Beach. The forecast across the next 16 days is a tough one. We're looking at a long, dry spell with hardly anything to get excited about. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore. It's a real bummer.
Over the first week, from the 25th of August right through to the 31st, we're dealing with scraps. The swell is a dribbly 1 ft to 3 ft from the WNW with a short, weak period of just 6 to 8 seconds. The combined wave energy is pathetic, barely cracking 100 (18 to 140) for the most part. The wind is a constant problem – mostly onshore from the WNW or a messy cross-onshore from the SW. That means chopped-up, bumpy conditions. Even the morning of the 30th of August, when the swell bumps up to 3 ft, it's still cross-onshore and messy. Forget about it. The water temperature is a touch warmer than normal at 86°, but that doesn't help the waves.
The first week is a total write-off. We then slide into a gap with no real surf to speak of. The first few days of September are more of the same: tiny 1 ft to 2 ft junk with onshore winds. The morning of the 1st of September is glassy, but the swell is so small (2 ft) and weak (combined energy of 26) that it's barely a ripple.
The only faint glimmer of hope comes on the morning of the 7th of September. We get a glassy morning with a light NNW wind, and the swell is a slightly less pathetic 2 ft from the WNW. The combined energy creeps up to 36, but with a period of only 6 seconds, it's still going to be weak and crumbly. It's not a standout by any stretch, just the least bad option in a grim forecast. After that, it's back to nothing.
Honestly, for the next two weeks, the setup at Dosim Beach looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The consistent onshore wind and small, weak swell just aren't doing us any favours.
Stay tuned, the forecasts can change, but right now? It's a no-go.
Rusty.
