Dosim Beach Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good honest look at what Dosim Beach has got lined up for us over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, it’s a bit of a grim picture for the next ten days or so. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is mostly working against us. We’ve got a long stretch here with nothing worth paddling out for – from now until about the second week of September, it’s a write-off for any proper surf. The energy in the water is weak, barely registering (7 to 91 on the energy scale), and the waves are just messy and small. You’ll see a couple of glassy mornings on Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th, but with swell only at 1 ft to 2 ft from the WNW, it’s just not enough to get excited about. Forget about it.

The first real hint of something happening comes on the morning of Saturday the 12th of September. We get a glassy start with a light WSW breeze – clean, calm conditions. The swell bumps up a tiny bit to 2 ft out of the WNW with a 7-second period, and the wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." That’s about as generous as it gets. The combined energy is still low (42), so this is strictly a longboard or foiling session for a beginner. For a beginner spot, it might be worth a look for a splash, but the crowds here are *always* present, so don’t expect any solitude.

The next morning, Sunday the 13th of September, is probably the best we’ll see. The wind goes completely calm, and it’s glassy as a mirror. Swell is still only 2 ft from the WNW with a 7-second period, and the energy is 43. It’s not going to be epic, but the conditions will be as clean as it gets for this break. If you’re a beginner and just want to feel a little glide, this is your window. But honestly, this is a real struggle for any kind of decent surf.

Then, on Monday the 14th of September, the swell finally starts to show a pulse. We’re looking at 4 ft from the WNW with an 8-second period, and the energy jumps to 157. That’s moderate energy, but the wind is a problem – it’s a morning light N cross-onshore, and by the afternoon it’s a stiff 15 mph from the NNW, chopping it all up. Tuesday the 15th is similar: 4 ft swell, moderate energy (146), but again cross-onshore wind. The wave comment says "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions," so it’s a gamble. For a beach break with this short period (8 secs), the shape is going to be weak and lumpy. This is not the day for experts or even intermediates unless you’re desperate.

The only real standout – and I’m stretching here – is the early window on Wednesday the 16th of September. Morning sees a glassy calm with some clouds, and the swell is back down to 3 ft from the WNW at 7 seconds. The energy is low (56), but the comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." Again, it’s barely a session, but it’s as good as it gets in this grim run.

So here’s the bottom line: If you’re a beginner and you’re dying to get wet, aim for the glassy mornings on the 12th or 13th of September. The best chance for something with a bit of push is the mornings of the 14th and 15th, but the wind will wreck it by lunchtime. For anyone else, this is a frustrating stretch. The water temperature is about 86°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a weird 4°F anomaly – so it’s like bathwater, but the surf is just not cooperating. It’s a classic case of a blank run for the area.
