The Lowdown
Alright, listen up. I’m gonna give it to you straight like it is. Dosim Beach is going through a proper flat spell right now. You look at the charts and there’s nothing but tiny dribble for a week. It’s a bummer, no two ways about it.
The water is running real warm, about 86°, which is close to 5° warmer than the long-term average. That’s a massive anomaly, the ocean feels like a warm bath. You won't need a wetsuit, that's for sure.
We’ve got a solid week of nothing from Thursday through next Tuesday. Swell heights are hovering between 1 and 2 feet with periods of 5 to 7 seconds, and the wave energy is pitiful, often in the single digits or low teens (like 26, 19, 15). There’s just no juice. The mornings have some glassy moments, but with zero waves, it’s just a calm, flat sea.
Then, next Wednesday the 16th is the first glimmer of hope. We get a slight bump in the swell to about 3 feet from the WNW at 7 seconds. The energy picks up to 77, which is still weak-moderate, but it's something. The morning is looking glassy, so it might be the only time worth paddling out on the log for a few soft ones.
The morning of Thursday the 17th is also worth a look. The wind is flat calm, the swell drops to a little over 2 feet from the NW, but the energy is still moderate at 40. There could be a fun, clean little wave in the morning before the afternoon onshores kick in.
After that, it’s a downward slide again. From the 18th through to the 25th, it’s back to small, weak waves, mostly under 2 feet, with short periods and cross-onshore winds in the afternoons that’ll turn it into a mess. This isn’t a time for surfing. With the swell this small and the wind blowing, it’s more of a kite session. Leave the surfboard in the car.
So, if you're desperate, the only real shot you have is the glassy morning of the 16th. The swell direction is WNW, which is exactly what Dosim wants, so it might give up a couple of clean shoulders. But with that short 7-second period and maxing out at 3 feet, it’s gonna be soft. Bring the longboard or a fish. The swell is small enough that beginners could handle it, but the lack of power will make it hard to get into.
Keep your expectations low for the next couple of weeks. The surf is going to be a grind. That’s how it goes sometimes.
Rusty, out.
