The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days at Dosim Beach are a tough one. This is a beginner-friendly, exposed beach break, and it’s got an inconsistent reputation, which means it doesn’t fire often. Unfortunately, this stretch is looking like one of those blank runs that’s pretty normal for the area. The water is sitting at 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nice for a swim, but that’s about all the excitement we’ll get.
The whole outlook is a real struggle. From Tuesday the 11th of August all the way through to Sunday the 23rd of August, there’s not a single decent surf day. We’re looking at tiny swell, mostly 1 ft to 3 ft, with short periods around 5 to 8 seconds, so there’s no real push or shape. The combined wave energy is weak, mostly sitting between 11 and 99 – that’s barely enough to get a ripple. The winds are a constant problem too, with a mix of cross-onshore and onshore breezes, often from the NW or WNW at 9 to 16 mph, chopping everything up. Even the mornings with light winds are only offering tiny, weak cross-shore waves, and the afternoon onshore winds kill any hope of clean lines. Every session is flagged as “poor surf conditions,” with a score of zero out of ten, except for a couple of mornings on the 17th and 19th of August that are only “marginal” – still not worth getting wet for.
The swell direction is mostly from the WNW, which is not ideal for the break’s optimum WSW direction, so the little energy that does arrive is mismatched. The best we can hope for is a slight bump on the morning of Monday the 17th of August, with 3 ft from the WNW at 8 seconds, but with a light cross-onshore wind, it’s just a marginal, messy option. It’s not going to be clean, and the crowds are listed as “always” present, so you’d be fighting for scraps.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the mornings from the 17th to the 21st of August might offer a few knee-high, weak waves, but the wind is never truly offshore and the swell is short-period and weak. For a beach break with this setup, it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, if you’ve got the gear. There’s a glimmer of hope on the 24th and 25th of August, with the swell period stretching to 8 seconds and the energy nudging up to 58 and 51, but the winds are still onshore and the surf is still poor. That’s 16 days without a real standout, not a single day that’s worth highlighting. The forecasts can always change, but right now, it’s a solid miss. Keep an eye on the charts, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
