The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Dosim Beach. I’ll be straight with you – it’s been a tough run and it’s going to stay that way for a while.
Right now, and for most of the 16-day window, there’s just nothing doing. The swell is tiny, weak, and the wind is all over the shop. From Wednesday 19th August right through to the end of the month, the ocean is basically flat and messy. The water temperature is sitting at 86°, which is a whole 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a pretty notable warm spell, so you’ll be in boardshorts, but don’t expect any waves to go with it.
We’re looking at a long dry spell here. The first 12 days? Almost nothing. The swell energy is pathetic – mostly single or low double-digit values, like 26 (weak) or 32 (weak). The swell heights are hovering around 1 ft to 2 ft, and periods are short (3 to 7 seconds), so it’s just wind chop. No power, no shape. The wind is cross-onshore or onshore for most of it, making it choppy and bumpy. There are a few mornings with glassy conditions, like Tuesday 25th August morning and Saturday 29th August morning, but even then the swell is only 1 ft to 2 ft with a weak period – not enough to ride.
The first real sign of life comes right at the end. On Monday 31st August morning, we get a bit of a tease: 2 ft from the WNW with a 7-second period, weak energy (41), and glassy conditions. The wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – I’d call it a tiny reprieve, but nothing to get excited about. Then on Tuesday 1st September morning, the swell bumps up to 4 ft from the WNW, period 8 seconds, and the energy jumps to 191 (moderate). The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’s not perfect, but it’s the best we’ll see. That’s a small, weak-groundswell style pulse, but for a beach break like this, it’ll be crumbly and soft. Still, it’s the standout in a very bleak outlook.
After that, the swell drops back down to 3 ft and 3 ft, returning to the same weak, messy pattern.
So, to sum it up: if you’re desperate for a paddle, the best chance is the morning of Monday 31st August or Tuesday 1st September. That’s your window. But honestly, this is a stretch of flat, disappointing conditions. Dosim Beach is inconsistent at the best of times, and right now it’s a real test of patience. Hang in there – forecasts can change, but for now, save your energy.
Rusty.
