Alright, Rusty here again, lookin’ at Dosim Beach over the next couple weeks. Gotta level with ya, it’s rough. There’s a stretch of tough weather and weak swell that just won’t let up.
We start on Friday the 3rd of July. Swell comes from the WNW, tiny – 2ft to about 4ft at best, but with a short period of 6 to 8 seconds. That’s windswell, so the waves are weak and gutless. The combined energy is low, mostly under 100, with a couple of days hitting the 100–163 range (moderate). The wind is the killer. It’s cross-onshore or onshore at 9 to 16 mph almost every session, leaving the surface choppy and ugly. No offshore, no glass, and “poor surf conditions” is written all over it.
Because of that, there’s no real standout. The only session that even sniffs at being okay is Tuesday the 14th of July in the morning. Swell bumps up to 3ft from the WNW, 8-second period, and the wind is a light cross-onshore at only 6 mph. The combined energy is 98 (weak). It’s still just a marginal surf forecast – a 1 out of 10 – but it’s the best we get. Dosim is exposed to the swell, but short-period waves and onshore wind just make a mess here.
For the rest of the 16 days, same deal. Swell never gets over 4ft, and there are days with waves under 2ft. Crowds are “always” at Dosim, but with this quality, don’t worry about it. It’s inconsistent, rarely really goes off under these conditions, and this kind of flat, windy spell is more common than not around here.
Your best shot? The morning of Tuesday the 14th of July – and that’s a stretch. Otherwise, it’s a kite-surfing wind, not a paddle-surfing one. Leave the log at home.
