The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the 16-day picture for Dosim Beach. I gotta be straight with you—it’s a pretty quiet stretch. The water’s sitting at 86°, which is a solid 4° warmer than what’s normal for this time of year, so it’s much warmer than usual. That’s a nice thing for a paddle, but don’t get your hopes up for the waves.
The first couple of weeks are a real drag. Right through the end of August and into the first days of September, we’re getting tiny, weak swells. The combined energy is mostly in the low double digits, barely breaking 100 (74 is the highest early on), and that’s nothing to write home about. The swell heights are hanging around 1.0ft to 3ft, with a short period of 5 to 7 seconds, coming from the WNW. That’s a weak, short-period windswell, not a proper groundswell.
The wind is a mixed bag. A few mornings, like Wednesday the 19th and Friday the 21st, go glassy, which is a sweet sight, but there’s simply no wave energy to work with. Most afternoons have onshore or cross-onshore winds, and the wave comment is consistently “poor surf conditions.” This is a beginner spot, exposed, but it’s inconsistent and you’ll almost always have company.
The one tiny flicker of life shows up late in the window. On Friday the 28th of August, the afternoon picks up a bit of energy with a swell of 3ft from the WNW, a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 102. That’s a moderate energy level, but the wind is onshore from the NW, so it’s going to be messy. The next morning, Saturday the 29th, is similar with 3ft and 86 energy, but the wind is light and cross from the NNE, which could clean it up a little. Still, these are not standouts, they’re just the least bad options in a very flat run.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The waves are small, weak, and the quality is poor. For a spot that’s already inconsistent, a blank run like this isn’t a surprise. Forecasts can change, but right now, I wouldn’t be rushing to wax the board.
Rusty.
