Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day window for Dosim Beach is pretty grim. The good news is, there’s only one spot on the radar, so we don’t have to overthink it. The bad news is, it’s barely on the radar at all.
The first real surf we can talk about is on Tuesday, July 7th. We’ve got a small, weak swell rolling in from the WNW at 3 ft, with a period of only 8 seconds – that’s short-period windswell, not a lot of grunt behind it. The combined energy is weak, sitting at just 99. The wind is howling onshore from the W at 12 mph, which is going to chop it right up. The water temperature is 83°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a wetsuit, but you will need a strong will to enjoy what’s on offer.
It doesn’t get any better. Wednesday the 8th brings a little more size, up to 4 ft, but it’s bloated with cross-onshore wind and a short period, making it messy. By Thursday, the swell drops back to 3 ft, and the direction stays unfavourable. The wind remains a problem all week, with onshore and cross-shore breezes mixing up the surface. There’s a brief moment on the morning of Friday the 10th with lighter wind, but the swell is tiny at 2 ft and the period is a pathetic 6 seconds – weak energy at 44. Not worth paddling out for.
The rest of the first week and into the second week is a parade of tiny, short-period waves with moderate to fresh onshore winds. The only time we see a change comes on Saturday, July 18th, when the morning session shows a “marginal” call. That’s still a 3 ft swell from the WNW with a 6-second period, but the wind is light and cross-onshore from the W at 6 mph. It’s the best of a bad bunch, but don’t expect more than a few knee-high lumps.
The last few days of the run, from July 20th to 22nd, show a slight uptick in energy only. On the 22nd, we see combined energy hitting 113 (moderate) and the swell bumps up to 4 ft, but it’s still cross-onshore and chopped. The setup is a beach, the wind is messy, and the swell lacks punch. Honestly, this looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The bottom line: there are no good surf options in the 16-day window. It’s a long, dry stretch. Dosim Beach is inconsistent at the best of times, and this forecast is a classic blank run for the area. Keep your eye on the forecast, because it tends not to stay this poor for long, but currently, there’s nothing to get excited about.
