The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about the surf – and I gotta be straight with you, it’s a grim picture for the next 16 days. We’re looking at a long, stubborn stretch of nothing good on offer.

Alright, let’s break it down. The whole forecast period is pretty much a write-off for decent waves. We’ve got over a week of flat, weak, and messy conditions before we even see a glimmer of something surfable. From Tuesday the 21st of July all the way through to Saturday the 25th, it’s just poor surf, day after day. The swell is tiny, mostly around 2 ft to 4 ft from the WNW, but the period is a paltry 5 to 8 seconds – that’s windswell junk, not proper groundswell. The combined energy is weak, sitting between 14 and 323, and even that one spike on the 25th is a mess. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-on, just chopping everything up. For a beginner spot like Dosim Beach, having the wind howling from the West and WSW at 12 to 16 mph is a total washout. The water is warm, 84°F, but that’s not gonna help the waves.

Finally, on Sunday the 26th of July, we get a tiny window. In the morning, the wind goes glassy – dead calm – and the swell is 3 ft from the WNW. The energy is still weak at 59. It’s labeled as "surfable but very ordinary." This is the only thing close to a highlight in the whole run. The conditions will be clean, but the waves are small and weak. For a beginner, it’s about the best you’ll get, but don’t expect anything epic. The crowds are listed as "always" at Dosim, so even for this meager offering, expect a packed lineup.

Monday the 27th is a step back with a light cross-onshore breeze, and then it’s back to the doldrums. From the 28th of July right through to the 5th of August, the swell drops to pathetic 1 ft to 3 ft junk. The wind stays mostly cross-on or onshore, killing any chance of a clean wave. We get another glassy moment on the morning of Wednesday the 5th of August, with 3 ft swell and calm wind, but it’s the same story – weak, ordinary, and definitely not worth planning a session around.

So, the one and only standout – if you can even call it that – is the morning of Sunday the 26th of July. Glassy conditions, 3 ft swell from the WNW. It’s clean, but it’s tiny. The rest of the 16 days are a total bust. Don’t get your hopes up, but that one morning might give you a few longboard sliders if you’re desperate.

Rusty.
