The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve got the lowdown on Dosim Beach. The outlook for this spot is pretty bleak over the next two weeks, with a long stretch of no real surf to get excited about.
We kick off on Thursday, July 30th with a tiny 3ft swell from the WNW, but the cross-on wind from the SW at 6 mph is already messing it up, giving us marginal, marginal surf. The combined swell energy is weak at a measly 62. You won’t want to paddle out for this.
The rest of the week into August is quiet. The best chance for a surf comes on Friday morning, July 31st. We get a small 3ft swell from the WNW, but the wind turns glassy – absolute glass. That’s a major positive. The combined swell energy is still weak at 69, and the period is a short 8 seconds, so no real grunt. Dosim Beach is an exposed beach break that is inconsistent and always crowded, so with such small waves, it will be a scramble for leftovers.
From there, we go into a long, disappointing run. From Saturday, August 1st all the way through to Friday, August 14th, the forecast is consistently poor. Wave heights stay between a feeble 1.0ft and 3ft with short periods, mostly from the WNW. The only other slight glimmer was the glassy mornings on Monday, August 3rd, Tuesday, August 4th, and Wednesday, August 5th, but with swell so small (2ft to 2ft) and combined energy rarely breaking 30, it was barely a ripple. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore during the afternoons, and by the time we reach the second week, the swell just gives up entirely. The last few days see combined swell energy as low as 6, which is practically flat.
If you’re a kitesurfer, the breezier afternoons might offer something, but for us paddle surfers, take a holiday. This area is going through a real flat spell. The water temperature anomaly is not mentioned for any specific break in the data, but for April, the average conditions hold.
