The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s call it like it is – Dosim Beach is in a rough patch for the next 16 days. The surf is mostly flat or messy, with just a couple of barely-rideable moments, but nothing to get excited about.
First off, from Thursday the 23rd through Saturday the 26th, it’s all “poor surf conditions.” The swell is tiny, 3ft to 6ft, with short-period energy and cross or cross-on winds that chop everything up. The combined wave energy is weak to moderate (59 to 394), but the wind ruins any chance of a clean wave. Forget it.
Sunday the 26th afternoon sees a bit more size – 4ft from the WNW with a 9-second period – but the onshore wind kills it. Still no good.
Monday the 27th morning is the one bright spot. The wind goes glassy, light offshore from the NW at 3 mph, and we get 4ft of WNW swell with an 8-second period. The combined energy is 161 (moderate). The report says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” For this stretch, that’s the best you’ll get. It’s beginner-friendly size, but don’t expect any quality. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 84°F, about 4° above average, so it’s a warm paddle.
After that, Tuesday the 28th morning is marginal – 2ft, cross-on, light wind – then it’s back to poor or marginal for the rest of the week. There’s a long gap from Tuesday afternoon through the end of the first week with nothing worth mentioning.
The second week is even quieter. From Friday the 31st onward, the swell stays tiny – 1ft to 4ft – with short periods (5 to 9 seconds) and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. The combined energy is weak, usually under 100. A few mornings (like August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th) are marked “marginal,” but with such small, weak swell and average wind, you’re just looking at knee-high bumps with chop. Not worth it.
The only real call is Monday the 27th morning. If you’re keen, get there early for the glassy conditions. Otherwise, this is a dead run for Dosim Beach. The stronger cross-onshore days look more like kite-surfing weather than paddle surfing. Hang tight – forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a tough one.
Rusty.
