The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a straight-up look at the surf outlook for Dosim Beach over the next couple of weeks. I’m gonna keep it real with you.

To be honest, it’s a pretty grim run for Dosim Beach. The water is much warmer than normal for this time of year at 86°F, so that’s something, but the surf is a different story. The combined swell energy is very weak for the vast majority of the 16-day window.

For the first week, from Saturday the 12th through to Friday the 18th of September, it’s a write-off. We’re talking tiny swell, mostly around 1ft to 3ft, with short-period wind slop. The wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, chopping everything to bits. There are a couple of glassy mornings – Tuesday the 15th and Friday the 18th – but even then the waves are tiny and the forecast calls it “poor surf conditions.” There’s just no push.

Saturday the 19th shows a glimmer of hope in the morning. Swell drops to 2ft from the west, but the period jumps to a long 10 seconds. The wind is glassy from the NNE, which will make it look clean. The energy is still weak (60), but it’s the first window where you might get a little knee-high runner. The afternoon gets blown out with a strong cross-onshore though.

The one true standout in this entire forecast is the morning of Sunday the 20th of September. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the WNW with a long 11-second period, pushing the combined energy into the moderate range (214). This is the best energy we see. The wind is a light cross-shore from the north, so it should be fairly clean. Just don’t get too excited – the afternoon gets messy again and the morning session is the only one that looks good.

The following week gets smaller again. Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd offer marginal mornings with small 2ft to 3ft swell but the onshore wind messes with the quality. The weekend of the 26th and 27th sees the swell drop to nearly flat (0.3ft) with very strong winds. There is a clean cross-offshore wind on the morning of Sunday the 27th with a 3ft swell, but the energy is still low (50). It’s a long way out and not something to bank on.

Crowds are always an issue here, but with this kind of forecast, you’re more likely to have the place to yourself. There’s just no quality swell to get excited about.
Rusty.
