Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next sixteen days.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – it's a tough stretch. We're looking at a long, dry spell with hardly anything worth paddling out for. The first real glimmer of hope doesn't come until the very end of the run. The water is sitting at a warm 82°, about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is nice, but it won't help the waves.
The only spot on the menu is Dosim Beach. It's a beginner-friendly, exposed beach break that's inconsistent, and let me tell you, the crowds are always there. From now through the 19th of July, it's a write-off. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1 ft to 3 ft, coming from the WNW with a short, weak period of 5 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is weak, staying well under 100 (hitting a high of 123 on the 7th), but the wind is almost always a cross-onshore or onshore breeze, making it choppy and messy. The forecast calls it "poor surf conditions" every single day, and I’m not one to argue.
We finally get a sniff of something better on the 20th of July, Monday morning. The swell is still a modest 3 ft from the WNW, but the wind drops right out to a light 3 mph cross-on breeze. The energy is still low (50), but the conditions shift to "marginal." That's the first time we see anything other than "poor." It's small, it's inconsistent, and it's a long way off, so don't get your hopes up too high. The afternoon on the 20th turns onshore again, so that morning window is your only shot.
Basically, we've got a massive gap of nearly three weeks with no real surf. If you're desperate, mark your calendar for the 20th of July, for a small, clean window at first light. Otherwise, it's time to find something else to do.
Rusty.
