The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let's break down what's coming in feet and miles per hour.
It's a grim outlook for the next couple of weeks. We're staring down a long, flat run from Sunday the 23rd of August all the way through to Saturday the 5th of September. The waves are just tiny, barely breaking, with the combined energy numbers stuck in the low double digits, not even cracking 30. It's a real desert. The water's warm, about 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal, so it's a nice swim at least.
The only thing worth circling on the calendar is Sunday the 6th of September. That's a long way off, so don't bet the farm on it, but there's a pulse of energy forecast. Sunday afternoon, the swell is set to hit 6 feet from the WNW with a 9-second period. That's a proper groundswell, and the combined energy jumps to 614 – that's a lot of power. This is not for the groms; anything over 5 feet is getting into serious territory. The wind is from the NW at 12 mph, blowing straight onshore, which will mess up the surface. The break is Dosim Beach. It's exposed to the swell, but that onshore wind is a problem. The optimum swell direction is from the WSW, so this WNW swell is a bit off, but with that much energy, it'll still push in.
Monday the 7th of September sees the swell dropping to 4 feet from the NW, with less energy (187), but the onshore wind sticks around.
So, to put it plainly: there's a long, dry gap of nothing until the 6th of September. That Sunday afternoon is your only real shot at something with some push, but the wind is going to be a battle. For the rest, keep the board in the bag.
Rusty.
