The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here, and I've gotta be straight with you – the outlook for the next sixteen days at Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi is a real struggle. This sandbar break is a beginner-friendly spot, but it's facing a long, flat spell with very little to get excited about.
Right now, the water's sitting at 84°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That's nice if you're having a paddle, but it's not gonna help the waves.
The forecast starts with a real whimper. Sunday afternoon the 2nd has a tiny 1ft swell from the WNW, with a weak combined energy of just 20. The wind is a moderate cross-shore at 16 mph, and it's already been written off as poor surf conditions. Honestly, you wouldn't bother.
There's a long gap here. From Sunday the 2nd right through to Thursday the 14th, there's essentially nothing worth paddling out for. Day after day of tiny, weak swells – mostly under 2ft – with periods of 5 to 7 seconds and cross-onshore winds. You'll get a couple of glassy mornings, like Tuesday the 4th, Wednesday the 12th, and Monday the 10th, but the swell is so small (1ft to 2ft) and the energy is practically non-existent at 15 to 23. It's flat, mate.
Finally, around Friday the 14th, we see a pulse of energy. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the WNW, with period climbing to 7 seconds and the combined energy hitting 144. Still, the wind is a gentle cross-onshore, and the surf quality is still poor. It's a bit bigger, but it's messy.
Saturday the 15th is the only real standout in the whole window. The swell hits 5ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 331 – that's a moderate amount of energy. The wind is a gentle cross-onshore at 9 mph. This is the biggest and most powerful swell we'll see, but it's still not clean. Given the size and the wind, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It's not great for beginners at over 5ft, and it's a bit of a handful, but if you're desperate, it's the best of a bad bunch.
Sunday the 16th holds some marginal swell at 4ft, with a similar period and energy of 232, but the wind is onshore, and it's still not good.
After that, it drops back down to under 3ft for the 17th.
Look, it's a bleak run for Hof gil. The spot is fairly consistent, but this forecast is an exception. We've got a long blank period, and even the biggest day is poor quality. Forecasts can change, but right now, I'd leave the board at home. Hang in there.
Rusty.
