The Lowdown
Alright folks, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Hofgil (Ashdod). It’s been a pretty flat and junky stretch, to be honest. For the next week and a half, we’re looking at tiny, weak surf with onshore winds chopping it all up. It’s mostly just a lot of nothing, ankle-snappers with not a hint of push. The water temp is about normal for this time of year, so you can’t even blame the cold.
The first glimmer of hope shows up on the 29th of August. We see the swell nudge up to about 4ft from the WNW with a short 8-second period. The energy gets into a moderate range (173), but the wind is still cross-onshore, so it’s gonna be a bit lumpy. The call is “marginal,” so it’s not the day to clear your schedule. The afternoon gets windier, so the morning is your only shot.
Looking further out, the 31st of August and the 1st of September bring a bit more size, with waves in the 4ft range. But the wind stays onshore or cross-onshore, and the period is still short, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out situation. The energy is moderate (179-212), but it won’t matter if the surface is a washing machine. The morning of the 1st of September has a lighter cross-offshore breeze that might help, but it’s still labeled as poor.
Now, the one bright spot in the whole 16-day forecast is the morning of the 2nd of September. The swell backs off to 3ft from the WNW, but the wind goes light and cross-offshore. That means clean, glassy waves. The energy is weak (68), but a clean 3-footer is worth a lot more than a choppy 4-footer. For the beginners, this is the day to look at, since anything over 5ft is getting too big. For the rest of us, it’s a fun, cruisy session. The break is fairly consistent, so you’ll get waves, but this run is really about finding a clean window, not a big one. If you’re just looking to get wet and the wind is howling, a kite might be more fun than a paddleboard. So, keep the faith for that 2nd, but don’t hold your breath for anything before that. It’s a long way out, so treat it as a hope, not a plan.
Rusty out.
