The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about the local stretch of sand at Hofgil, or Hof Hadromi (Ashdod). Right now, the outlook is a bit of a tough one. The water is sitting at a very warm 86°F, which is way hotter than it should be for this time of year, but that's about the only thing that's firing.
For the next week and a half, it's pretty grim. From Wednesday the 16th all the way through to the morning of Wednesday the 23rd, the surf is basically non-existent for a proper paddle. We're looking at tiny swell, with heights barely scraping 2 feet and periods so short they're just wind slop. The wave energy is weak, and the wind keeps messing things up, making for choppy or onshore conditions. There's a few glassy mornings in there, like Thursday the 17th and Monday the 21st, but the swell is just too small and weak to do anything with.
The first flicker of hope comes on the morning of Friday the 25th. The swell nudges up to 4 feet out of the NW, period stretches to 8 seconds, and the energy jumps to a moderate 129. More importantly, the wind goes glassy. It's not a classic, but it's the first window where you could actually get a fun little slide on a foamie or a longboard. It's still very ordinary, but it's the best we've seen in two weeks.
Saturday the 26th through Monday the 28th is a bit of a letdown again, with smaller swell and messy cross-shore winds. Everything gets a bit cleaner on the 30th of September, with another 4 feet NW swell and clean cross-offshore winds in the morning, offering another chance for some grovelly fun.
The real standout? It’s a close call between the 25th and the 30th. I'd lean towards the morning of Saturday the 30th of September. The swell is 4 feet at 7 seconds from the NW, with the wave energy sitting at a moderate 102. The wind is light and cross-offshore, giving you clean lines. For a beginner-friendly sandbar exposed to the west, this is your best bet for a session that’s not just a battle with chop. It's still small, but it'll be clean and fun.
To be honest, there's a big gap of about 9 days where you wouldn't even bother checking the forecast. If you’re patient, the last few days of the month offer a couple of windows, but don't hold your breath for anything more than ankle to knee-high. It's a quiet spell, but these conditions don't last forever around here.
Rusty.
