The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk shop in feet and knots. Rusty here.
This 16-day window is looking pretty flat and quiet for our local stretch. Nothing big on the horizon.
Water temp is sitting at about 84°F – a touch warmer than average for this time of year.
Our only spot is Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi, a sandbar break for beginners. It’s fairly consistent but often crowded. The swell is mostly coming from the northwest and west-northwest, which isn’t its ideal west swell window.
Thursday, July 30th morning is your best bet. Glassy conditions with a light WSW wind around 3 knots, swell about 3ft from the northwest at 7 seconds. Combined wave energy is a weak 73 – tiny stuff. It’s clean and surfable, but very ordinary. For a total beginner, this is the one.
After that, it’s a messy run. Friday morning (July 31st) has a marginal 2ft swell with light onshore wind. From Monday, August 3rd through August 9th, there’s a big gap of days with poor conditions and tiny waves – energy down to 6 or 11 on some days, with glassy conditions but only 1ft to 1ft of swell. Barely a bump.
From Monday, August 10th, we see a slight bump back to 3ft to 3ft, but the cross-onshore wind keeps it choppy. Wednesday morning, August 12th is another marginal call with 3ft and light cross-onshore wind.
Overall, the swell is short-period (5-8 seconds), so weak and crumbly. No long-period groundswell is coming. The best move is to check Thursday morning if you’re really keen, but otherwise, it’s a quiet stretch. Might see more kite surfers than paddle surfers on those choppy afternoons.
Forecasts can change, so keep an eye out.
Rusty.
