The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for the coast.

Right off the bat, the outlook for Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi is pretty grim. We’re looking at a long, flat stretch to kick things off. The first few days are a write-off, with barely any energy in the water. The combined swell energy is weak, sitting at just 343 on Saturday the 25th, and it drops off a cliff after that. Water temperature is sitting at 84°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing going for it.

Saturday morning the 25th brings a bit of a pulse, with 5ft swell from the WNW, but the period is a short 8 seconds and it’s cross-on from the SW at 9 mph, making it choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out for. The afternoon is even smaller, 5ft, and still cross-on. The whole first week is plagued by cross-on or onshore winds, keeping the surface lumpy. The biggest issue is the swell is just too small and weak to push through the chop.

Honestly, the best chance you’ll see all window is Monday morning the 27th. It’s not much, but it’s the standout. You’ve got 4ft from the WNW at 8 seconds, and a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNE at 6 mph. The wave comment says it’s clean, and the combined energy climbs to 179, which is at least moderate. It’s the only moment where the conditions align for a surfable wave. Expect crowds possible here, it’s a fairly consistent spot.

After that, it’s back to tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. Tuesday morning the 28th is glassy but only 2ft, and by Wednesday the 29th it’s ankle-snappers at 1ft. There are a few more glassy mornings in the second week, like Saturday the 1st of August and Saturday the 8th of August, but the swell is barely a ripple, with combined energy down in the teens and twenties. Nothing to get excited about.

For a stretch like this, with the break being a sandbar and exposed, it’s looking more like a kiteboarding setup than a paddle session. The swell direction is WNW, which is not the optimum W from the guidance, and the quality just isn’t there. If you absolutely need to get wet, Monday morning the 27th is your only real look. Otherwise, save your energy.

Rusty.
