The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. So, we're looking at the next 16 days for Hofgil, down at Ashdod (Hof Hadromi). Straight up, the pickin's are pretty damn slim. This is a sandbar setup, exposed to the west swell. Water temp is sitting on 30°, which is way warmer than usual for this time of year – feels like a bath out there.
The first couple of weeks are a flat and choppy write-off. We've got a long stretch from now right through to the 28th of August where the waves are tiny, the wind's mostly messy cross-onshore, and there's just no energy. The combined swell energy is barely getting into double digits, like 9 to 19, so it's weak as.
Now, there's a little blip of hope, but it's a long way off. Come Friday the 28th of August, the energy bumps up a touch to 40, but the wind is still on it. The real standout window looks to be the morning of Saturday the 29th of August. We get a cleaner 0.8m of swell from the WNW, a period of 8 seconds, and the wind turns glassy. The energy hits 78, which is the best we've seen, but it's still just "ordinary" surf quality. That glassy morning will be your best chance for a tiny, clean wave.
The morning of Sunday the 30th of August is similar – 0.8m with a slight offshore breeze – that'll be worth a look if you're desperate. After that, it drops right back down into the junk. The pattern keeps repeating this little pulse of weak energy, but the wind usually ruins it by afternoon.
Looking way ahead to Wednesday the 2nd of September, the energy jumps up again to 131, and the swell hits 1.1m with an 8-second period from the WNW. That's the biggest size we see, but the wind is a problem again, blowing onshore. It’ll be a lumpy, bumpy ride. Honestly, for most of this, if you just want to get wet, the glassy mornings will give you a clean surface, but don't expect any real power behind it.
Keep your hopes low, lads. For the majority of the next fortnight, you're better off kiting than paddling, because the swell is weak and the cross-on winds suit a kite way better than a surfboard.
Rusty.
