The Lowdown
Alright, gather 'round. Rusty here, and I've got the straight-up word on the local surf for Hof gil. It's not exactly pumping, folks.
Let's be real, for the next stretch starting Saturday the 18th of July and running through to Wednesday the 29th, the waves are a tough sell. We're looking at small surf, mostly around 1 ft to 2 ft, with swell periods stuck at 5 to 7 seconds. That's weak, short-period wind swell, and the combined energy is pretty low—mostly in the 8 to 31 range. That’s a whole lot of nothing. Winds are mostly cross-onshore and choppy, so forget about clean conditions. The best you'll get is a few glassy moments on the morning of Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th, but the swell is just too small and gutless to call it a surf. Honestly, this stretch is better spent on the beach than in the water.
Things perk up a fraction starting Thursday the 24th of July. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the WNW, and by Friday afternoon it's pushing 4 ft with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 113, which is moderate energy. Saturday morning the 25th sees the peak of this run: 4 ft from the WNW with an 8-second period and 154 combined energy. That's the most juice we see, but the winds are still cross-onshore. It's worth a paddle if you're desperate.
From the 27th to the 29th, things fade back down. However, the morning of Thursday the 30th July shows offshore wind from the west at 5 km/h, glassy conditions, and a 2 ft swell from the NW with a 6-second period. The forecast nudges it to a 1/10, calling it "marginal." It's not a standout, but with that offshore wind, you might find a few clean little lines.
The best on offer? Look, there's no true standout here. If I had to pick one, it's Saturday morning the 25th of July: 4 ft from the WNW (optimum is W, so it's close enough) with 154 combined energy. With the cross-onshore wind, it'll be a bit bumpy, but it's the biggest swell we get. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi is a sandbar break that's pretty exposed to the west. It's fairly consistent, but it can get busy. This setup might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Rusty.
