The Lowdown
Gather 'round, surfers. Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: the next 16 days are looking flat and frustrating for the most part. We've got a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and less-than-ideal wind. Don't get your hopes up for any epic sessions, but let's walk through what little we've got.
Alright, so the first good news is that we're starting with a clean slate, but the waves are a no-show. For the first few days, from Tuesday the 11th to Thursday the 13th, the swell is barely a ripple, with heights around 1 ft to 2 ft. The morning of Tuesday the 11th is glassy with a light cross-off breeze from the north, but the wave energy is a measly 25. It's just not enough to ride. The afternoons are a write-off with onshore winds and chop. The water is a warm 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be cold if you're just floating around.
The only stretch that might offer a glimmer of hope is a few days from now. On Saturday the 15th, the morning swell picks up a tiny bit to 2 ft from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 40. It's still marginal, with a light cross-onshore breeze from the southwest. Not great, but it's the best we've seen so far. The following Monday morning, the 17th, sees a slight bump to 3 ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds, and the energy climbs to a moderate 117. Still, it's a cross-onshore wind from the WSW, and the forecast says "marginal." It's a real stretch.
The end of the week on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd is a total bust, with swell dropping back to 1 ft and periods of 4 seconds. The energy is a pathetic 5 to 9. Honestly, it's not worth paddling out. The last glimmer is on Sunday the 23rd, when the swell shows a slight pulse back to 3 ft from the WNW with an 8-second period and a moderate energy of 72. But the morning wind is a cross-onshore from the SSW, making it choppy.
So, the standout? There really isn't one. If I had to pick the least-bad window, it would be the morning of Monday the 17th of August. The swell is 3 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds, and the energy is moderate at 117. It's still marginal, but the light cross-onshore wind from the WSW might offer a few rideable waves at Hofgil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi. Expect crowds here, as it's often busy. The swell direction is from the NW, which is the optimum direction for this spot. It's a beginner-friendly sandbar, but it's inconsistent and rarely breaks well, so don't get too excited. The water is still a touch warmer than normal.
Other than that, the rest of the 16 days is a blank run. The swell is just too small and the wind is too often onshore or cross-onshore. It's a typical quiet spell for the area, so don't be surprised. Forecasts can change, but right now, I'd keep the board in the car and maybe find something else to do.
Rusty.
