The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s mostly a bust. The good news? The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 84°, so it’s pleasant for a swim, but don’t get your hopes up for a surf.

Here’s the deal: the first recommendation doesn’t even pop up until Thursday, 30 July. That’s a few days of flat or hopeless conditions to start. From there, it’s a long, drawn-out stretch of small, weak swells and poor conditions. The combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly low, often in the two-digit range (like 130 on Monday, 27 July, but that came with a 0/10 score), so the wave energy is weak. The swell heights are tiny, barely cracking 3 ft, and the periods are short, mostly around 6 to 8 seconds. That’s windswell, not groundswell – no grunt, no shape.

The only two mornings that even look surfable are Thursday, 30 July, and Friday, 31 July. On Thursday morning, we’ve got a tiny 3 ft swell from the WNW with an 8-second period, giving a combined energy of 82 (weak). The wind is glassy, though – a light offshore from the WNW – so the conditions will be clean. It’s described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” and honestly, that’s the best we’ve got. Friday morning is similar: 2 ft from the WNW, 8 seconds, glassy offshore wind, but again, very ordinary. The rest of the days are a write-off – cross-onshore winds, choppy surfaces, and no quality.

If you’re desperate for a paddle, those two mornings are your only shot. But this is a beginner-friendly sandbar break, and with the swell under 5 ft, it’s not too big for anyone. The crowds are often present here, so expect company. For the entire second week, from 1 August onwards, it’s the same story: tiny swells, poor surf conditions, and nothing to get excited about. The setup is so marginal that if you have a kite, this might be more interesting for you than a surfboard.

Honestly, from the looks of this forecast, it’s a blank run. The area isn’t known for consistent surf, so this kind of stretch is normal. Keep an eye on the forecasts, though – it tends not to stay poor for long.

Rusty.
