The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at the forecast for the Ashdod area, specifically Hof gil (Hof Hadromi).
Right off the bat, I’ve got to be straight with you – the next 16 days look pretty bloody grim. For a solid week and a half, from now up until the very end of July, it’s almost all "poor surf conditions" with scores that barely register. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and the swell is tiny and weak. There’s just nothing to get excited about. We’re talking a long, dry gap.
The first real hint of something surfable doesn’t come until Saturday, July 31st, in the morning. Even then, it’s only flagged as “marginal.” The swell is a measly 4ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is a moderate 207. The wind is light from the SW, so it’s a light cross-onshore, which is better than the usual chop, but still not clean. The swell is small, and the conditions are just okay. It’s not a standout, just the least bad option on an otherwise dead calendar.
If you’re desperate, the early morning of Sunday, August 2nd, is the only moment that looks remotely glassy. The wind goes calm and the water is glassy. The problem is the swell is only 2ft from the WNW at a short 7-second period, with a weak energy of 42. The comment calls it “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” That’s the truth. It’s a tiny, weak wave that’ll be a real struggle to get a ride on a standard shortboard. The water temperature is sitting at 84°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, there’s not a single standout session. The wind is consistently wrong, the swell is tiny and weak, and the energy values are mostly in the double digits (17 to 82) for the first week, only briefly touching the low hundreds later. This is a beach-and-sandbar setup, and with the persistent onshore and cross-onshore winds, the conditions are going to be choppy and messy. For a kiter, this might look more interesting than for a paddle surfer.
Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, I’d say leave the board in the car. Things can change, but this window is a write-off.
