The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
We’re kicking things off with a bit of a flat spell, to be honest. The first half of the outlook is a tough one. There’s a small window early on Thursday morning, the 30th of July, where we get a tiny pulse of energy. Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi will see a 3ft swell from the NW with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 71, so it’s not packing much punch. The water is sitting at 84°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The real highlight here is the glassy, offshore wind from the WSW at only 3 mph. That will make the surface clean as a whistle, but the waves themselves are small and weak. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. After that morning, the wind swings NW and picks up to 12 mph, turning it into a cross-on mess. The afternoon gets a score of zero, so don’t bother.
The rest of the first week and into the second is a write-off. From Thursday afternoon, right through until the end of the 16-day window, the forecast is full of “poor surf conditions” and “marginal” calls. The swell drops to 3ft and then keeps fading to a pathetic 0.7ft by the 13th of August. The energy numbers are in the teens and single digits, barely a ripple. The wind is either a moderate cross-on from the NW or a light onshore breeze, and the period stays short, between 5 and 8 seconds. There’s just nothing to get excited about. There’s a long gap of more than two weeks with no real surf on offer.
To be blunt, this is a dead run for the area. For a beginner, the tiny 3ft on Thursday morning is the only thing that might be worth a paddle if you’re desperate, but it’s weak. The entire period is a blank for anyone looking for a proper wave. Sometimes it stays poor for a while here, and that’s exactly what’s happening. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
