The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you about Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi. The next 16 days are looking pretty grim on the whole. The swell is small, the wind is mostly wrong, and the consistency is only fair. This is a blank run that's pretty normal for the area at this time of year, so don't be too disheartened. We've got a long stretch of nothing much happening before a couple of small windows of hope.
The water temperature is sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home.
The first real glimpse of anything semi-surfable doesn't come until Sunday the 16th of August. The morning offers a tiny 3ft swell from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of (103). The wind goes glassy, which is a major positive, but the swell is so weak it's only just surfable and very ordinary. That afternoon, the wind swings onshore and chops it up again.
Monday the 17th of August morning is a similar story – a 3ft WNW swell (103 energy) but with a light cross-onshore wind, making it marginal at best. Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th of August don't offer much more, though Wednesday the 19th morning has another glassy window with a 2ft WNW swell (41 energy) – again, just surfable but very ordinary.
If you’re looking for the best on offer across the whole 16 days, it’s a toss-up between the glassy mornings. I’d lean towards Sunday the 16th of August morning at Hof gil. The 3ft, 8-second WNW swell is the biggest we’ll see, and that glassy WSW wind at 3 mph will give you the cleanest surface. It’s not going to be a classic, but it’s the best you’ll get. The break is a beginner-friendly sandbar, so it's safe for learning, but crowds are often here, so get there early.
After that, we have another glassy chance on the morning of Monday the 25th of August with a 2ft WNW swell (40 energy), but that’s a long way off and the swell is even smaller. The rest of the time is a write-off of poor, choppy conditions with onshore winds, so don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
