The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the region around Hofgil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi. It's a sandbar break, exposed to the west, and it's fairly consistent. The water's sitting at a noticeable 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the start of August, so you might not need the thickest suit right now.

To be straight with you, the next week and a half is looking pretty grim. The swell energy is weak, mostly sitting in the low double digits (12–45) with small waves around 2 ft to 3 ft coming from the west-northwest and northwest. For the most part, the wind is either a cross-onshore breeze or blowing directly onshore, making conditions choppy and messy. There are a few mornings around the 4th and 11th of August that turn glassy, but with only 2 ft of weak, short-period swell, there's just no push to get excited about. The wave quality is consistently described as poor, so I wouldn't be rushing down.

There's a small glimmer on the morning of Saturday, 16th August. We get a glassy start, with 3 ft of swell from the west-northwest and a combined energy of 66 (moderate wave energy). The conditions are described as "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". It's not a standout, but it could be the best of a bad bunch. The swell period is still short at 7 seconds, so it won't have much grunt. You'll find it very small and a bit weak, but at least the wind will be off it.

The next morning, Sunday 17th August, starts calm and glassy again, but the swell drops right back to 2 ft with only 18 energy, so that's a no-go too.

Honestly, there's nothing in this 16-day window that I'd call a proper surf day. It's a long, flat stretch with no real standouts. For an area that's fairly consistent, these blank runs can happen, and forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board at home.
