Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch for real surf. For the first week, through to the 10th of July, the conditions are a bit of a write-off. The waves are small, mostly around 2ft to 4ft, and that’s from the WNW. The combined swell energy sits anywhere from a weak 30 to a moderate 188, so it’s not nothing, but the wind just won’t cooperate. Most mornings have a cross-onshore breeze, and the afternoons swing onshore. The water’s a warm 81°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, so you won’t need a wetsuit, but the surface is chopped up. Frankly, for the first eight days, it’s mostly poor surf conditions.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, though. The real standout here is Saturday morning, the 11th of July at Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi. We’re looking at a tiny 3ft swell from the WNW, but here’s the kicker – the wind goes glassy. Absolute flat calm. That’s a major positive. The combined swell energy is only a weak 68, so it’s not going to have much push, but for a beginner spot that’s fairly consistent, you might actually catch a few clean, crumbly little waves. The swell period is short at 7 seconds, so it’s windswell, but with the surface like a mirror, it’s the best you’re going to get.
After that little window, we slide back into the same pattern. The swell stays small, the wind picks up, and the conditions turn choppy and ordinary again. The 12th of July morning also shows glassy conditions, but the swell drops to just 2ft with a 6-second period – that’s barely a ripple, and honestly, it’s still poor surf. From the 13th through the 18th of July, it’s the same story: tiny swell, cross-onshore winds, and low energy. The combined energy figures are mostly below 100, which is weak.
So, to sum it up: don’t hold your breath for the first week. If you’re dying for a paddle, the Saturday morning of the 11th of July is your only real shout for a clean, glassy session, even if it’s on small waves. This is a beginner-friendly stretch of sandbar, so crowds are often here, but on a day that small, you might have it to yourself. Otherwise, the whole 16-day window is pretty flat and funky. It’s a blank run, and that’s just how it goes here sometimes.
Rusty.
