The Lowdown
Listen up, folks. Rusty here, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – the next couple of weeks at Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi are looking flat as a pancake. We're in for a long stretch of tiny, weak swell and rubbish wind. The water's a balmy 85°, which is a touch warmer than usual, but that's the only bright spot.
We've got a solid week of nothing worth paddling out for. From Friday August 7th right through to the following Sunday the 16th, the swell is a pathetic 2ft to 3ft, mostly from the WNW, with a short, weak period of 6 to 7 seconds. The combined wave energy is pathetic, barely hitting 70 (70) on the 16th, but mostly stuck in the teens and thirties. The wind is a constant problem, too – mostly cross-onshore or onshore, making everything a choppy mess. There's a brief moment on Friday morning the 14th with glassy conditions, but the swell is still only 2ft with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is a measly 17 (17). It's a flat spell, plain and simple.
Things don't get any better heading into the second week. From Monday the 17th to Saturday the 22nd, the swell barely nudges up to 3ft on the 17th and 18th, with the combined energy only reaching 81 (81) at its best. The period stays short at 7 seconds, and the wind is still predominantly cross-onshore. The mornings of the 17th and 18th are rated as "marginal," but honestly, with that kind of weak, short-period swell and poor wind, it's still not worth your time. The surf is just too poor for any real fun.
This is a blank run, and for this area, it's not unusual. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the persistent onshore wind and small, weak swell. Don't bother dragging your shortboard out. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, find something else to do.
Rusty.
