The Lowdown

G’day, I’m Rusty.

Alright, let’s be straight with you – we’re looking at Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi, and the whole 16-day window is a tough stretch. There’s no standout, no epic swell on the horizon, just a long dry spell of tiny, wind-affected waves. The first recommendation doesn’t come until Wednesday the 16th, and even then it’s a small, ordinary bump. In fact, we’ve got a gap of almost three days from now with absolutely nothing worth paddling out for.

That Wednesday morning the 16th, we finally see a little life. Glassy conditions with a light NE breeze, and a tiny 3 ft swell from the NW with a period of 7 seconds. Total combined swell energy is weak (54). It’s surfable for a beginner on a soft-top, but it’s nothing to get excited about. By afternoon the wind swings NW at 12 mph, turning it cross-shore and choppy – back to poor.

Thursday the 17th starts with glass again – SSE wind, dead calm, but the swell drops to 2 ft, period 6 seconds, energy at 38. It’s still poor. The whole pattern repeats: glassy mornings offering clean but tiny surf, then the chop builds each afternoon. Saturday the 19th offers the biggest swell of the first week – 3 ft from the WNW, period 7 seconds, energy up to 90 – but the wind is cross-onshore and the ocean is a bumpy mess. Still poor.

The following week is more of the same. Sunday the 27th is the only date that shows something different: a 5 ft swell from the NW with an 8-second period. Combined energy jumps to 226, which is moderate. But the catch? Strong 12 mph onshore wind from the West spoils the surface, and it’s rated as marginal. Monday the 28th pushes 5 ft from the NW, period 8 seconds, energy 354 – the biggest and most energetic of the whole forecast – but again, the wind is onshore, Westerly at 12-16 mph, creating poor, blown-out conditions. That’s not a paddle surfer’s dream; that’s a kite surfer’s setup if anything.

The water temperature has been around 86°F with an anomaly of 4°F – that’s notably warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a wetsuit.

Bottom line: this is a bleak run. For a spot that’s fairly consistent normally, this stretch is a dud. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home and go for a swim instead.
