The Lowdown
Righto, let's have a look at what's cookin' for Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi. It's a sandbar set-up, fairly consistent, which means it *does* get waves, but we're gonna have to be patient.
Right off the bat, the water's sitting at a warm 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That's a nice bonus. But the real story here is that the surf's pretty ordinary for the first week or so. We've got a run of poor conditions that stretches from this Sunday right through to the end of the month. There'll be small, weak swells, with combined energy mostly well under 100, and the wind just keeps messing it up with cross-onshore breezes that chop things up.
The first glimmer of something okay comes on the morning of Sunday, the 30th of August. We're looking at a 0.9m (3ft) swell from the WNW with an 8-second period. The combined energy is 94, so it's still weak, but the wind's light and cross-onshore, so it'll be messy. Then on Monday, the 31st of August, there's a bit of a pulse. The morning brings a 1.3m (4ft) swell from the WNW with that 8-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 243. Now, that's a moderate amount of energy. The wind is light and cross-onshore, so it's not perfect, but it's the best on offer. The waves will be a bit lumpy, but it's surfable. This is the standout, but honestly, it's not a classic.
The rest of the period after that doesn't offer much. There's a glassy 0.7m (2ft) swell on the morning of Thursday the 27th of August, but it's a small, weak affair with an energy of just 40. It's not really gonna do much.
So, the pick is the morning of Monday, the 31st of August. It's not a day to write home about, but if you're desperate for a paddle, you might find a few lumpy ones. Crowds here are often, so don't expect to have it to yourself.
Rusty.
