The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the Ashdod area.
First up, I’ll be straight with you – the next week and a half is mostly a write-off for any decent surf. The swell is tiny, the wind is messy, and the scores are just not there. You’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak waves with a lot of cross-onshore chop. The water temperature at Hof gil (Ashdod) is sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing that’s firing.
The first real sniff of something worthwhile doesn’t show up until Sunday, September 6th. That morning, the wind is glassy from the north, and we’ve got a 5ft swell rolling in from the northwest with an 8-second period. The combined energy is moderate (295), and it’s actually looking like a good session. The northwest swell is coming from a direction that’s not the optimum for this break, but with glassy conditions and a bit of size, it’s the best on offer by a long shot. That’s your standout. Get on it early.
Before that, Tuesday, September 1st has a brief moment of glassy wind in the morning with a tiny 3ft swell, but it’s weak energy (82) and nothing to get excited about. And Monday, August 31st is marginal at best.
So, in short: save your energy for the morning of the 6th. The rest of the window is flat, ordinary, or just plain messy. The break is a sandbar setup and fairly consistent, but the conditions just aren’t cooperating. It won’t stay poor forever, but for now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
