The Lowdown
Gather 'round, surfers, and let me tell you what's cooking for the stretch ahead. Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – this is a real quiet spell for the most part. We're looking at a long, drawn-out period of small, weak waves and a lot of cross-onshore chop, so don't expect much action for a while.
The first spot on the radar is Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi (Israel). This is a sandbar setup, and honestly, it's going to be a tough slog. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 85°, but that's about the only thing that's pumping.
We kick off on Saturday, the 5th of September, with a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, but a cross-onshore wind is already messing it up, making for choppy, poor surf. The combined energy is weak, at just 32. Sunday and Monday look much the same – small waves, poor conditions. Tuesday morning the 8th sees a glassy window with 2ft, but the swell’s still weak (36 energy), and by the afternoon it's back to chop.
Honestly, the best chance in this whole outlook comes on Thursday morning, the 10th of September. We get a glassy morning with a 2ft WNW swell, period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is a paltry 48 – it's surfable but very ordinary. You'll be able to get a few small, weak lines, but it’s not a standout. The rest of the first week and into the second is a desert of tiny waves and poor conditions, with energy dropping to single digits by the 14th.
There is a glimmer off in the distance. On Friday, the 18th of September, we see a slight bump. The morning brings a glassy 3ft swell from the NW with a 7-second period. The energy is still low at 85, but for the first time it's labelled "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." That's the best we've got. The following morning, Saturday the 19th, has a small 3ft swell from the WNW with a clean, cross-offshore wind, energy at 98. It's not a classic, but it's the cleanest of a very dirty bunch.
So, the honest truth is there's nothing here to get excited about. No standout sessions, no real size, just a lot of flat spells and choppy water. It's one of those times where the forecast can change, but for now, keep the board in the bag and don't waste the petrol.
Rusty.
