Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we've got on offer for the next couple of weeks. I've got to be straight with you – it's a pretty grim picture for the most part. The whole spread has that "not much happening" feel, with a lot of onshore and cross-onshore winds messing things up. There'll be long gaps where it's really not worth getting the board wet.
We kick off with supposedly some swell on Saturday morning, July 4th, but don't get excited. It's a tiny 3ft from the WNW with a short, weak period of 6 seconds. The combined wave energy is a paltry 49 – that's weak. And with a cross-on breeze, those conditions are labelled as "poor surf." That's the story for the next several days right through to around July 8th. We see the energy climb a bit into the low 100s (moderate) from Sunday, but the onshore wind from the W and WSW works against every bit of it. The water temperature at our spot, Hof gil (Ashdod) or Hof Hadromi, is running at about 81°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for the time of year – nice for a swim, but not much else.
There's a slight, very slight, glimmer on Thursday morning, July 9th. The wind drops to a light breeze from the SW, still cross-on, and the swell is a measly 3ft with a weak energy of 110. The rating is a 1/10 – described as "marginal." You'd have to be desperate. Friday, July 10th, is much the same story: light wind but tiny, poor surf.
After that, the energy just completely falls off a cliff into the weekend around July 11th-12th, with energy readings down in the single digits. It's flat, or close to it.
Now, here's the interesting bit. On Wednesday morning, July 15th, we see a little kick from the WNW: 3ft swell with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 125 (moderate). The wind is light from the west at 5 km/h (3 mph). Records show "unknown" wind state at that time, but the "on" direction is noted. That's enough to maybe make a few crumbly ones. It's still a "marginal" rating, but it's the best we've seen in a week.
Then, the only real standout of this entire 16-day stretch is Thursday morning, July 16th. We get glassy conditions with a light air from the west, a 2ft NW groundswell, period 7 seconds. It's small, but glassy is glassy. The comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions" – it's a 1/10 in the rating, but with the wind off, it's the only time you might actually enjoy a knee-high runner. Don't expect any power though, as the combined energy is only 47. For Hof gil, a sandbar break, that tiny groundswell might actually line up a bit better than the usual windswell.
After that tiny window, it's back to the choppy, onshore grind through to the 19th. Honestly, this looks more interesting for a kite session on those windy afternoons than for paddling in.
This stretch is pretty much a write-off. The breaks are not consistent and the conditions are generally poor. Blank runs like this are more normal for this time of year, don't let it get you down. Forecasts can change, but this one's not offering much. Stick to the pool or find a river mouth if you're desperate. Rusty out.
