Table - best surf conditions forecast for H-Reef over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s get into it.
Right, I’m looking at the H-Reef stretch, and if I’m being straight with you—there’s not a single decent wave in this whole 16-day run. The whole forecast period from July 10 through to July 25 is just a flat, messy bust. Every morning and afternoon, we’ve got cross-shore or cross-onshore wind hanging in there at 12 to 16 mph, and the swell is showing up from the ENE, but the wave comment is consistently “poor surf conditions” and the score is a big fat zero across every single record. There is simply nothing worth paddling out for.
H-Reef itself is a fairly consistent advanced reef break that needs a good NNE swell to really fire—but we’re getting ENE pulses with periods mostly between 6 and 8 seconds, so it’s short-period, messy, and cross-chopped. The combined energy of all swells directed here ranges from a weak 184 up to a moderate 598 (like on July 12 afternoon), but it doesn’t matter—wind is always cross or cross-on, the tides and wind state are giving us a moderate cross-chop or choppy surface, and the wave comment never changes from “poor surf conditions”.
The water temperature is sitting at 79°F with an anomaly of only 0.4°F, so that’s totally average for this time of year—not a problem, just not helpful when there’s no surf.
There are no recommendations, no standout days, no hidden gems. This is one of those blank runs where the area just goes quiet. It happens. Winds keep coming from the east, swell is short and weak, and there’s nothing here for a surfer. If you’re really desperate, this setup with that much cross breeze and consistent small to moderate ENE swell might actually be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, because the wave faces will be chopped and weak.
Keep an eye on it—forecasts change, and it rarely stays this dead for long.
Rusty.
