Table - best surf conditions forecast for H-Reef over the next 16 days.
Hey, it’s Rusty. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks in your neck of the woods. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the wind is a bastard. It’s blowing cross-shore from the east and east-northeast almost every single day, and it’s taking everything good about the swell and turning it into chop. There is no proper standout session in the whole 16-day window. The first time you might even think about paddling out is Saturday, July 18th, and even then, it’s a maybe.
From Thursday, July 9th, all the way through Friday, July 17th, it’s a write-off. Swell heights run from about 4 ft to 7 ft, coming from the ENE, with a short, weak period around 7 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate, ranging from 304 to 563, but the wind is cross-shore every day – moderate to fresh breeze – so the surface is lumpy and messy. H-Reef is a consistent reef break, but with that constant chop, it’s not worth it.
Now, Saturday, July 18th is the one day that has some juice. The morning has 8 ft swell from the ENE (period 8 seconds, moderate energy at 781), but still cross-shore. In the afternoon, the swell jumps to 10 ft from the ENE (period 9 seconds), and the combined energy hits 1206 – that’s strong energy. But the wind stays cross-shore, and the call is marginal, with questionable tide. At 10 ft, this is expert territory only, and with that cross-shore breeze, it’s going to be a bumpy, challenging wave. It’s a reef, so it can handle the size, but the wind is the weak link. Honestly, with that constant cross-offshore wind, this setup might be more fun for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
After that, the swell drops but we get a weird, powerful pulse on the 20th and 21st of July – long-period groundswell from the E, with periods up to 17 seconds. Swell heights are only 4 ft to 4 ft, but the combined energy is huge, hitting 979 to 1586 – that’s strong to very strong energy. That’s a classic long-period groundswell that can really line up on a reef like H-Reef. The problem? Still cross-shore wind. The conditions are marked as marginal, and the scores are low. It’s a real shame, because if the wind ever went offshore, this would be the best run of the outlook. As it is, it’s just a tease.
From July 22nd onward, the swell fades to 2 ft to 4 ft, with weak energy down to 120. Not worth your time.
So, my honest take: the afternoon of July 18th has the most size and power, but the wind ruins it. The 20th and 21st have that beautiful, long-period energy, but again, cross-shore kills it. If you’re really keen, the 18th afternoon is your only real shot, but don’t expect much. The reef is fairly consistent, so the area isn’t a total dead zone, and forecasts can shift. But right now? It’s a long, windy, messy forecast. Rusty out.
