The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at German Sunset Break. I’ll be honest – it’s a slow start, and we’ve got a long stretch of junk before anything worth a look shows up.

The forecast starts with a little blip on Friday, August 7th. There’s a small 4ft swell from the west, with a period of 8 seconds, and light cross-off winds. The wave energy is weak at 142, so it’s surfable, but nothing to get excited about. Water temp is about 86°, which is normal for this time of year, so no big deal there.

Then we hit a real dry spell. From Saturday, August 8th, all the way through Monday, August 17th, it’s almost completely flat. The swell drops to a tiny 0.3ft to 1.0ft most days, with messy cross-shore winds and lumpy, choppy conditions. A few times it cleans up, but there’s just no swell to work with. You’d be better off staying home.

The first real chance comes on Tuesday, August 18th. The morning brings a 4ft west swell with a period of 8 seconds, and a light cross-off breeze from the SSE. The combined energy is moderate at 223. It’s not a monster, but it’s clean. Then the afternoon is the real winner – the wind goes glassy, with light rain. The same 4ft west swell is breaking with zero wind. That’s easily the best window in the whole outlook. The water will be warm, and the conditions will be smooth as butter. It’s not a big swell, but it’s the only time you’ll get a proper clean session.

After that, it fades again. Wednesday, August 19th, is a step down with a 4ft swell and some cross-chop, and then it’s back to tiny, weak surf for the rest of the forecast.

So, to sum it up: if you’re looking to get wet, the standout is the afternoon of Tuesday, August 18th. That’s your best shot. Everything else in the next 16 days is either flat or too messy to bother. Hang tight.

Rusty.
