The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – we’re looking at a pretty grim stretch ahead on Lake Erie. The next 16 days are a write-off for any proper surfing. There isn't a single recommended session in the entire period, so don’t hold your breath for any magic swells coming through. The zero energy readings tell the whole story.
Right now, the water is sitting at 75°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only interesting thing going on. The only small blip we see is a weak pulse around Thursday the 27th with a 2ft swell from the west, but the period is a paltry 5 seconds, meaning it’s just messy wind chop. With cross-shore winds howling at 16 mph, it's gonna be blown out and lumpy – not worth paddling out.
We get a couple of clean windows with light winds, like Sunday the 30th afternoon, but with zero swell on the horizon, it's just a flat, glassy lake. Even the glassy conditions on Saturday, September 6th and Monday, September 8th are useless without any wave energy. The combined energy never gets above a weak 16 – often it’s zero. This is pretty normal for the lake when a long stretch of calm sets in.
There’s really no standout to highlight. I wouldn't bother waxing your board for the next two weeks. If you’re jonesing for some water time and the wind kicks up hard, this beach setup might look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Otherwise, sit this one out.
Rusty.
