The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the outlook for Erie is a tough one. We're looking at a 16-day window and, honestly, the surf is mostly flat. There's a little bump right at the start, but then we're staring down a big, long gap of nothing much from Friday the 31st of July all the way through to the 14th of August.
The only real chance to get wet is on Thursday the 30th of July. It's not going to be anything to write home about. We've got a tiny swell rolling in from the north, just 2ft, with a short, weak period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is a measly (13) – it's barely a pulse. The wind is a cross-onshore from the north at 9 mph, which is going to mess up the surface, making it fairly choppy. By the afternoon, the swell drops right off to 1ft and the energy is down to (2). It's poor surf.
After that, the models are showing nothing but zeros for wave energy. The forecast is clean and glassy at times, especially on the 3rd, 4th, and 9th of August, which is a tease because there's simply no swell to go with it. For a spot like Erie, this kind of blank run is pretty normal – it's a lake, after all, and it can go flat for days. The water temp is about average for this time of year, but it doesn't matter much when there's nothing to ride.
If you're desperate, you might get a knee-high wobble on the 30th, but temper your expectations. For the rest of the run, it's a no-go.
