The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window for Erie is looking pretty bleak. The finder is basically telling me there’s nothing worth paddling out for, and the guidance backs that up. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with no real surf to speak of. The first record shows Saturday morning the 25th with zero energy, and that theme runs all the way through. We’ve got a solid stretch of days with nothing but flatness and poor conditions.
The only glimmer of a pulse comes around Monday the 27th afternoon, when we see a tiny 1.0ft swell from the west with a period of just 4 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 2 (2), and it’s still labeled as poor surf. That’s not a wave; that’s a ripple. Tuesday the 28th looks slightly better – a 3ft west-northwest swell with a 5-second period, energy up to 41 (41). The wind stays light and cross-offshore, keeping things clean. But honestly, that’s still small, weak, and short-period. It’s the best of a bad bunch, but it’s not good.
The break itself, Erie, is consistent according to the guidance, and it’s exposed to the west, which is the optimum direction. So the setup is there, but there’s just no swell to work with. Water temp is sitting at 74°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Beyond that, it’s a flat run. From Wednesday the 29th all the way through to Sunday the 9th of August, there’s nothing. Zero combined energy on most days, and any tiny bump is gone by the 31st. The wind picks up strong at times, like Wednesday the 5th with a 19 mph cross-offshore, but there’s no swell to ride. It’s just a windy lake with no waves.
So, the honest truth? Leave the boards in the shed. There’s nothing here worth chasing. A blank run like this is pretty normal for the area when the lake goes quiet. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.
Rusty.
