The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be real with you – if you're looking to paddle out at Erie on Lake Erie, this 16-day window is a tough one. We've got a long stretch of nothing worth chasing, so let's break it down.
Right off the bat, we're looking at a whole lot of flatness. The first few days, from Thursday the 16th right through the weekend, are a write-off. We're talking tiny, weak windswell at best, with onshore breezes messing up what little is there. It's just not happening.
The first sniff of anything with a pulse comes around Tuesday the 22nd. We've got a northwesterly swell showing up, pushing 4ft at 6 seconds. That's not a lot of period, but the combined energy is sitting at 111 (moderate), which is something. The wind is a bit of a mixed bag, with a cross-offshore on Tuesday morning trying to keep things clean. But honestly, with that period, it's going to be a fat, lumpy mess at a beach break. If you're a kite surfer, this might be your window because the paddle surfing is going to be a struggle.
After that pulse, the tank runs dry again. From Wednesday the 23rd all the way through to the end of the month on the 31st, it's a dead zone. Mostly zeros across the board. We get a few glassy mornings, like Sunday the 26th and Monday the 28th, but with no swell to speak of, it's just a flat, pretty lake. That's a long gap – over a week of nothing.
So, the honest truth? There are no standouts here. No best on offer. The brief bump on the 22nd is the only blip on the radar, and it's not enough to get excited about for a surf. For this area, a blank run like this is pretty normal. The forecasts can change, but right now, I'd leave the board at home.
Rusty.
