The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've been staring at the charts for Erie, and it's a tough one to call. To be honest, there's basically nothing on the menu for the next 16 days. We're looking at a complete flat spell right through to the 23rd of September. That's a long, dry run.
The first hint of anything rideable is on Wednesday morning, the 9th of September, but don't get excited. We've got a tiny, weak swell rollin' in from the WSW at 1ft with a period of just 3 seconds. The combined energy is basically nothing at (4). The wind's howling from the SW at 15 mph, whipping up a messy cross-shore chop. It's poor surf conditions, and that's being kind.
You might spot a little bump on Thursday the 10th, with the swell nudging up to 2ft from the WNW, but the period is still a pathetic 5 seconds, giving a combined energy of only (17). Wind is cross-onshore at 9 mph, so it's gonna be bumpy and unrideable. Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th are back to dead flat.
Sunday the 13th offers a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, but again, it's plagued by short period and cross-shore winds. Nothing here is worth the paddle out. After that, it's a complete wasteland. The wind keeps blowing onshore or cross-shore, and there's zero wave energy in the water.
To be honest, the whole 16-day window is a write-off for surfing. There's no standout day, no hidden gem. The water temp is going to be average for the time of year, not that it matters when there are no waves. This kind of flat spell isn't unusual for the area, but it still stings. If the wind gets up strong enough, a kite might get a look in, but for us paddle surfers, it's a time to clean the wax off and wait. Don't hold your breath, kids.
Rusty.
