The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for the local scene.
Well, I gotta be honest with you, it’s a tough stretch ahead. Lookin’ at the whole 16-day window, and honestly, there’s not a single day where the surf is gonna get you excited. We’re staring down a long, flat spell with barely a ripple on offer. The first hint of any wave energy doesn’t show up until Saturday morning, August 8th, but even then it’s just a tiny 1ft pulse from the WSW with a pathetic 4-second period and a weak combined energy of just (4). That’s not surf, that’s a lake burp. The wind is a moderate cross-shore at 15 mph, so it’s gonna be messy.
The only real glimmer, and I’m reaching here, comes on Tuesday morning, August 11th. We get a tiny bump to 3ft from the WNW, with a 6-second period. The combined energy is still weak at (55), but it’s the most we’ll see. The wind is a moderate cross-shore from the WSW, so it’s not clean, but it’s the only window where you might find a tiny, crumbly lump. Don’t expect much. After that, it’s right back to flatness with a few days of clear skies and offshore winds on Thursday the 13th and Friday the 21st, but zero swell to go with ‘em.
The water temp is sitting at 75°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s not gonna help the waves.
Look, for Erie (Lake Erie), this is a pretty normal blank run. The lake just doesn’t have the consistent push. Keep your board in the car, check the forecasts, but don’t hold your breath. When it’s this flat, the only thing you can do is wait for a change.
Rusty.
