The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the outlook for the next sixteen days is a tough one. The surf just isn't showing up. From now through the 20th of August, this is a blank run. We’re talking day after day of poor surf conditions, with the swell energy figures stuck at 0 or barely registering a whisper at 1 to 10. It’s a long, quiet stretch.
The first time we might see a ripple is on the afternoon of Thursday, August 6th, at Erie. A tiny 0.7 ft swell from the west with a period of 3 seconds and a combined energy of just 1 is not something you paddle out for. It’s poor surf, with a moderate cross-onshore breeze making it choppy.
The pattern stays the same through the weekend and into the next week. We get a little bump on Monday, August 10th, with the swell bumping up to 2 ft from the west, period of 4 seconds, and energy hitting 10. That’s still poor surf, though, and with a moderate cross-shore wind, it’s not going to be clean.
Beyond that, from the 11th to the 20th of August, it’s all zeros across the board. Glassy mornings, clean afternoons, but no swell to push through. You’ll see some light cross-offshore breezes on the 15th, 16th, and 17th, but with no wave energy, they’re just teasing us.
This is one of those stretches where the lake goes flat. It happens. The forecast can change, and when it does, we’ll be ready. But for now, leave the boards in the shed. It’s a kite surfer’s paradise out there with the wind, but for us paddle surfers, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
