The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks on Lake Erie are looking pretty grim for surfing. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing.
Looking at Erie (Erie), the water is sitting at a toasty 74°F which is about 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, feels like a bath. But the warmth is just about the only highlight.
Right through the 16-day window, there’s barely a ripple. The first few days are a total write-off. Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th have no swell to speak of. Monday the 14th shows a tiny pulse from the north at 3 ft, but it’s cross-on and choppy with only weak energy (41). That’s the closest we get to a wave, and it’s not even worth the drive.
From Tuesday the 15th right through to Sunday the 27th of September, the energy readings are all zero. Zilch. Nada. The wind does go offshore a few times – like Monday the 21st with a fresh 19 mph offshore from the SE, and again on Friday the 25th – but with zero swell, clean conditions don’t mean a thing. We are looking at a completely flat spell. For such a consistent spot to go this quiet is unusual. Don’t bother packing the boards for at least two weeks. Sometimes you gotta sit this one out.
Rusty.
