The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking on the lake.
To be straight with you, this is one of those stretches where the lake just isn’t playing ball. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead, but the surf is virtually non-existent for the entire run. It’s a long, flat spell with nothing worth paddling out for.
For Erie (Lake Erie) , the story is grim. We start with nothing on the 11th and 12th of August – just tiny, weak dribbles if you can even call it that, with combined swell energy barely registering (2 and 0). The morning of the 12th is clean with a light cross-offshore breeze, but there’s zero swell. The 13th and 14th tease with a tiny 1ft northwesterly windswell at a short 3-4 seconds, but the winds are messy and cross-onshore, and the energy is pitiful (1 to 4). Even the glassy moments on the afternoon of the 14th and the morning of the 15th can’t hide the fact there’s no wave to ride. From the 15th of August right through to the 26th, it’s a total desert. Plenty of glassy, clean mornings and afternoons, but with zero swell energy (0). The lake is flat as a pancake. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
There are no standouts here, no hidden gems. This is simply not a surf period. If you’re itching for something, the clean conditions with strong winds on the 16th and the 24th suggest this setup is much more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, especially with that fresh cross-offshore breeze. But for a surfer? Leave the board at home. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a blank run.
Rusty.
