The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a honest look at what’s coming down the pipe for Erie. I’ve gotta be straight with you—this 16-day window is looking pretty bleak. We’ve got no recommendations, and that’s not surprising for this setup. The file shows that from Monday, August 3rd, all the way through to Tuesday, August 18th, the surf is basically a no-go. That’s a solid two-week stretch of "poor surf conditions" with barely a ripple.
The only real blip of energy shows up on Monday morning, August 3rd, with a tiny 3 ft swell from the NNE, but it’s a short 5-second period and the wave energy is weak (31). On top of that, we’ve got a 12 mph cross-onshore wind, so it’s choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out for.
After that, it’s dead. We see a few days with a tiny 0.7 ft or 1.0 ft wave and periods as low as 3 seconds—that’s pure wind chop. The combined energy is just 1 or 5, basically nothing. Most days have no swell at all.
There is one small bright spot: Tuesday afternoon, August 4th, turns glassy with zero wind, but there’s zero swell to go with it. And we get glassy conditions again on Wednesday morning, August 12th and Monday morning, August 17th, but still no waves.
With the set-up being a beach-and-reef setup and a consistent SE offshore wind direction that never really lines up, this is more of a kite-surfing window than a paddle-surfing one, but even that’s a stretch. It’s just a blank run, folks. Forecasts can change, but for now, hang loose and maybe clean the wax off your board.
Rusty.
