The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Erie's got cooking for us over the next couple of weeks.
Well, I gotta be straight with you. This 16-day outlook for Erie (Lake Erie) is a tough one. We're looking at a long, stubborn stretch of nothing but poor surf conditions. The wave energy is flatlining – zero or next to it, with combined energy values barely hitting double digits. The highest we see is a measly 21 on the 17th, but even that's attached to a chop fest. For the vast majority of these days, the report just says "poor surf conditions." We've got a gap that stretches from now, right through until the end of the period on August 27th.
Let's walk through the few faint pulses. Wednesday morning, August 14th, there's a tiny 1.6 ft swell from the NNE with a short period of 4 seconds, but it's got a light cross-onshore wind, so it's not going to be pretty. That afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell drops to 1.3 ft. On Monday, August 19th, the morning shows a 2.6 ft swell from the NNW, still with a short period, but a moderate cross-onshore wind will have it chopped up. The afternoon cleans up with a light cross-offshore, but again, tiny 1.3 ft leftovers.
Honestly, there isn't a single standout in this whole run. The swell is too small, the period is too short, and the conditions are never aligned for good waves. With the consistent lack of quality and the fetch being a lake, this kind of flat spell isn't out of the ordinary for the area. If you're desperate for any kind of wave action on a board, with the wind mostly cross or onshore, this setup might actually look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Hang in there, but don't hold your breath for this window.
