The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. We’re looking at a pretty bleak stretch for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s one of those quiet spells where the lake just shuts down.
The outlook starts with a tiny bit of potential on the morning of Sunday the 9th. Erie (Lake Erie) might see a tiny 0.2m swell from the west, with a 4-second period and a combined energy of just (1). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the ENE at 5 km/h, keeping things clean. The water’s sitting at 25°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only positive. It’s really not enough to get excited about.
Monday the 10th brings a bit more size—0.9m from the west, 6-second period, moderate energy (50)—but it’s ruined by a strong 30 km/h cross-shore wind from the SW. That’s a write-off. We see a small glimmer on Tuesday afternoon the 11th when the swell is only 0.3m, but the wind goes glassy from the ESE at 5 km/h. The combined energy is just (3), so you’d be fighting for knee-high dribbles.
After that, from Wednesday the 12th all the way through to the end of the period on Monday the 24th of August, there’s nothing. Zilch. The guidance keeps showing poor surf conditions with no recorded swell. We see a few glassy or clean afternoons, like on Wednesday the 19th or Saturday the 22nd, but without any wave energy (0) coming in, it’s just a flat lake.
There is no standout day here. The best of a bad bunch is probably Tuesday afternoon, 11th of August, if you’re desperate for a glassy surface, but you won’t be surfing much. For a spot like Erie (Lake Erie), it’s pretty normal to have long blank runs like this. Just gotta wait for the next weather system to stir things up. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a hard no.
Rusty.
