The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks. I gotta be blunt: it’s looking like a ghost town out there. We’ve got a solid 16-day stretch with no good surf options at all. The waves are completely flat, and the energy is stuck on zero for the entire run.
We start off on the morning of July 24th with zero wave energy. Water temp at Erie is about 75°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year. But that’s the only bit of good news, because the surf is totally lifeless. This flat spell just drags on. There’s a tiny hiccup on July 28th, where the combined energy barely reaches 45, with a tiny 3ft wave from the WNW, but even then it’s still being called poor surf. It’s basically nothing. After that, it’s back to zero energy and dead flat days all the way through to August 8th.
This is a total bust for anyone wanting to paddle out. A blank stretch like this is just how it goes in this area sometimes. If you’re really itching to get on the water, the setup with those occasional ripples and the wind patterns might be better suited for kite surfing than for a surf session. The forecasts can always turn around, but for now, just leave your board in the car.
Rusty.
