The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – looking at the next 16 days for the Erie area, it’s a tough stretch. The guidance points to a spot called Erie, and it’s exposed to west swell, which is right in the zone we need. But honestly, this forecast is a blank page for most of it. We’ve got a solid run of "poor surf conditions" with no real energy to speak of.
The water temp at the start is sitting at 74°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nothing crazy, just a little pleasant surprise for anyone who does get wet.
From Sunday, August 30th, through to the very end of the outlook on September 14th, it’s pretty much a bust. We see a few tiny pulses of swell in the first few days of September – Tuesday morning the 1st has a tiny 2 ft from the west at a short 4 seconds, but that combined energy is a weak 7. Wednesday the 2nd drops even lower to 1.0 ft. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, so it’s messy and small. By Friday afternoon, September 4th, we get a little 1.0 ft from the north-northwest with a clean cross-offshore easterly breeze at 3 mph, but that’s like a ripple in a pond.
After that, it’s all zeros. From September 5th right through to the 14th, there is absolutely no swell on the charts. The combined energy is zero across the board. There are periods of clean, offshore winds, but with no waves, that’s just a nice day for a drive.
Look, if you’re desperate, that Tuesday morning, September 1st, might offer the least terrible option – a tiny 2 ft west swell (7 combined energy) with a cross-shore wind. It’s not good, but it’s the only thing that even registers. For the rest, save your energy. The forecast can change, but this looks like a long, flat spell for Lake Erie. This kind of blank run isn’t unusual for the lake when the wind and swell just don’t line up.
Stay tuned, and maybe pick up a new hobby for a few weeks.
