The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at the next couple weeks on Lake Erie.
Honestly, I gotta level with you – this stretch is looking pretty grim. We're talking about a long spell with barely a ripple to get excited about. The whole 16-day window is flat, blown-out mess. The first glimmer of anything surfable is basically non-existent right out of the gate, and the pickings stay slim throughout.
Wednesday, September 2nd kicks off with some south wind and a whopping 0.7 ft of weak, short-period slop from the west. The combined energy is a pathetic 1, and with those onshore breezes and storm risks, it's just not worth a paddle. The water temp is 74° which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, but that's the only highlight.
Thursday the 3rd offers a tiny bump to 1 ft from the west, but the period is still just 4 seconds – no juice. The combined energy climbs to a measly 6, but it's crossed up and messy.
By Friday afternoon the 4th, the glass-off looks beautiful – no wind, clean water – but there's zero swell. Same story for the weekend and right through the middle of the next week. We get some clean windows with light offshore or cross-off breezes, but there's no wave energy to push. The combined energy reads a flat 0 for many sessions.
There's a tiny pulse around Monday the 7th with 1.0 ft swell from the NNW and a 3-second period, but the combined energy is still just 1. It's not enough to get out of bed for.
Don't even bother with the second week. From the 9th right through to the 17th, the forecasts are a massive blank. Even when the wind is clean, like on the morning of Saturday the 12th with a light offshore from the SE, there's no swell on the charts. The combined swell energy is 0 for nearly the entire second week. For a spot like Erie, that's pretty standard when it goes flat.
If this was a beach break with anything over a foot, I'd say it's more of a kiteboarding window, but honestly, there's nothing for anyone right now. Don't walk away from the lake, just wait for the next system.
Rusty.
