The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here. Let's cut to the chase – the next couple of weeks on Lake Erie are looking like a total bust. The guidance points to a consistent spot in Erie, but the numbers tell a different story: we've got a long, flat spell ahead with nothing worth paddling out for.
For the entire 16-day outlook, there is no surf to speak of. We start off with tiny, weak waves – nothing over 3 ft – and the wind is working against us for most of the first week. The water is a weirdly warm 74°°, which is about 6°° warmer than usual for September, so the lake is toasty, but that doesn't do a thing for the waves.
Sunday the 13th is a dud: 1 ft of west swell with a super short 4-second period, messed up by a cross-shore breeze. The combined energy is a weak 5. Monday the 14th gives us a glassy moment in the afternoon, but the swell is only 1 ft from the north – you'd be sitting on a board, not riding it. From Tuesday the 15th onward, the swell completely disappears. We get days with clean offshore winds on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of September, and even a glassy morning on the 27th, but with zero wave energy, it's all for show.
There's a solid 13-day stretch here with nothing on offer. When the lake shuts down, it shuts down. This is one of those dead periods. Conditions look better for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now. Keep an eye on it – things can turn around quick. I'm Rusty, signing off.
