The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's break down what's happening on Lake Erie in Imperial. Gotta level with you—this whole 16-day stretch is lookin' pretty grim. There's a massive gap of flat, poor conditions from now right through to the end, with barely a ripple worth paddlin' for.
The water temp at Erie is runnin' way above normal, about 76°F, which is about 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That's a big anomaly. But warm water won't save a flat lake.
For the first few days, the combined swell energy is either zero or in the weak zone—numbers like 0, 25, 64, with a brief spike to 156 on the morning of July 22nd. That morning brings a moderate 156 energy with a 5ft swell from the NW at a short 6-second period, but it's onshore and messy. Not exactly prime.
There is no standout session across this whole period. Everything is flagged as poor surf conditions. The only thing remotely close to a pulse is that Wednesday 22nd July morning, and even then, the wind's on it. Might be more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers. Crowds are "sometimes" an issue here, but you won't have to fight for waves when there's barely any.
From late July into the start of August, it's all zeros. No swell, flat water, often cross-onshore breezes. This is a typical flat spell for the area—don't let it get you down, things can always change.
If you're holding out hope, maybe glance at the 22nd July morning. But honestly? Not much to get excited about.
Rusty out.
