Table - best surf conditions forecast for Erie over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for our local stretch of water.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a rough one. Looking at the entire 16-day window, there’s basically nothing to get excited about. We’re staring down the barrel of a long, flat spell starting right now and running all the way through to the end of the forecast. The data shows a whole lot of zeros for wave energy, with the only real blip being a tiny bit of swell early on, but it’s nothing to write home about. For the first week, we’ve got a few days where there’s technically some swell, but it’s accompanied by poor conditions, making it a real struggle. After that, from around the 18th of July onward, it’s a total dead zone with no surf at all. So, if you’re looking for a paddle, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
The only real period with any size at all is the first few days. On Sunday the 12th, we see a tiny 2ft NE swell creep in during the afternoon. The energy is weak (23), and it’s a short-period 5-second wind swell. The wind is cross-shore and choppy, so it’s not going to be pretty. Monday the 13th is a complete write-off with zero energy. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th show a small W swell, but it’s barely 2ft at best, with a weak period and strong cross-onshore winds making it a choppy mess. None of it is worth paddling out for.
As for the water, it’s worth noting that the water is sitting at a balmy 77°F on Sunday morning, which is a whopping 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a serious anomaly, but it’s the only highlight in a grim forecast.
Given the complete lack of any decent swell with clean conditions, there’s nothing to recommend. The setup is more suited to a flat day on the lake than any kind of surfing. Keep the boards in the garage, folks. This one’s a washout.
