The Lowdown

Hey, Rusty here again. Let's talk about this 16-day stretch, and I gotta be honest, it’s a tough one. The guidance points to this as a spot that can be consistent, but the actual forecast data says otherwise for this whole period.

We're looking at a massive dry spell starting Saturday, August 22nd, and running all the way through to Sunday, September 6th. Not a single session gets a thumbs-up – every slot is "poor surf conditions" with a zero rating. That's over two weeks of nothing to get excited about.

The only possible blip is on Sunday morning, August 23rd. We see a tiny swell of about 4ft from the WNW, but it's coming with a short 6-second period and a nasty 22 mph onshore wind. The combined energy is just 112 (moderate at best), but with that wind, it'll be a total washout – fresh cross-onshore and lumpy. Not worth the drive. That period is way too short to produce any decent shape.

After that, the swell vanishes completely. You'll see some glassy, clean days like Wednesday the 26th, but there's zero energy (0 combined energy). It's a total flat spell with no waves to surf.

For this whole window, the conditions are much better suited to kite surfing than paddle surfing, with the strong cross and onshore winds and the complete lack of quality swell. If you see any hints of waves in the first week of September, treat them as a long-range whisper, not a guarantee. A run of flatness like this is just how it goes in this area sometimes.

Keep the board in the car, but maybe just use it to hold your coffee for a while.

Rusty.
