The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get real about the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s looking pretty flat and bleak for any proper waves. Right now, the long-range picture out there is a whole lot of nothing, and there are no good surf options on the table for this entire 16-day window. I’d be lying if I said I saw any light at the end of the tunnel.

We’re starting with a total flat spell. For the first few days, through the weekend, there is essentially zero swell energy, with the combined energy at 0 for Saturday. That water’s pushing 77°, which is a couple of degrees warmer than usual for this time of year, so if you’re just wanting a swim, it’s not bad. But for surfing? There’s nothing to ride.

We do see a pulse of weak, short-period swell kicking in for Sunday afternoon, and then a little more on Monday. We’re talking ankle-biters at best. Monday morning brings a northwest wind and a small 3ft swell from the NNW with a period of 4 seconds, with combined energy at 23. That’s weak, and the short period means it’ll be pretty gutless. Not worth getting wet.

After that, we’re looking at a long stretch of nothing but poor surf conditions, with all scores at zero and no swell energy until at least the middle of the next week. From Tuesday the 19th through the following weekend, it's mostly flat and choppy, with light winds and no proper groundswell. There’s a tiny bump on Thursday the 21st, at 2ft from the NNW, but it’s still weak and period is only 4 seconds. Not surfable.

The second week of the outlook, into late August, is no better. We’re just seeing a bunch of flat, crossed-up conditions. Even a small bit of overhead swell is nowhere to be seen. It’s a total dead period. There’s no standout break, no hidden gem. When the energy is this low, it just doesn't tend to stay poor for long, though. Forecasts can change, and this lake can turn on when you least expect it. But as of right now, I’d say leave the boards at home and maybe take the kite out if the wind picks up—the setups look more interesting for that than paddle surfing on those days with wind. I’ll keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath for the next couple of weeks.
