Table - best surf conditions forecast for Erie over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I gotta be honest with ya – the lake is looking flat and pretty sad. The whole 16-day forecast is a total dud for surf. There is no real swell to speak of, and the combined energy is just a whisper or zero for the entire period. It’s one of those blank runs where you’re better off taking the board off the car and doing something else.
We start off Friday the 10th with a tiny 1ft windswell from the west, but the period is a pathetic 4 seconds – barely a ripple. The combined energy is a measly 2 (weak). Saturday the 11th manages a 2ft at best from the northeast, but the wind is cross-shore and a bit messy. By Sunday the 12th, the swell disappears completely and stays gone. The wind is all over the place for the rest of the window – cross, cross-on, and even some fresh breezes up to 19 mph right through the second week. There’s no clean, rideable waves to be found.
For a lake spot like Erie (Lake Erie), this kind of extended flat spell is normal. It happens. The wind is often the only hope, and it’s just not cooperating. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the best chance in this whole sorry outlook is a tiny window on Wednesday morning, July 15. We’ll see a 2ft swell from the west-northwest with a 5-second period, giving us a combined energy of 24. That’s still weak, but it’s the biggest number we get. The wind is cross-onshore though, so it’ll be a bit choppy. Not a day for a beginner, but for a longboard on the lake, it’s the only thing that might be worth a look. Don’t hold your breath.
Signing off, Rusty.
