The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Lake Erie's got cookin' for us. Gotta be honest, right off the bat, this stretch is lookin' mighty lean for a surf. We're talkin' about a long, dry spell.
The water is sitting at a balmy 76°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—a real nice surprise for a lake dip, but it doesn't help the waves none.
Right off the bat, from Tuesday the 14th through the 16th, we've got tiny, choppy, cross-onshore junk. Swell heights are barely a whisper, with the combined energy (8) to (3) just weak. Not worth paddlin' out for.
Then we hit a real stretch of nothing. From the 17th right through to the 29th of July, the forecast shows waves are just non-existent. That's nearly two weeks of flat water. You'll see some glassy mornings on the 17th and 23rd, but with zero swell energy (0), it's just a mirror. It's a tough run.
If we're bein' honest, there's one tiny glimmer. By Sunday the 19th, we see a pulse of energy. Erie (Lake Erie) gets a little push. The wind goes light offshore from the SSE at 3 mph, makin' things clean. Swell comes from the NW at 3ft, with a period of 5 seconds. That's short-period windswell, but it's something. The combined energy hits a modest (45). It's not gonna be epic, but it's the only real surf we've got on offer in the whole outlook. Expect crowds to be sometimes an issue, because when it's this flat for so long, every surfer within a hundred miles will be in the water.
That's it, that's the lot. A long blank run, with just one small breath of life on the 19th. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a tough stretch for lake surfers.
Rusty.
