The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days are a total write-off for surf around Erie. There’s no two ways about it—flat and quiet. The first record shows nothing from Sunday August 2nd onward, and the whole run is a bust. Zero combined swell energy (0) right through the forecast, with waves either non-existent or barely a bump. Monday the 3rd gives a tiny 3ft from the NNE with a period of 5 seconds, but it’s a cross-on wind from the NNW at 9 mph, so it’s messy and weak. That’s the best of a bad bunch, and it’s not worth paddling for. The water’s a touch warmer than normal at 75°, but that’s the only bright spot. The rest of the week—and right through to Monday August 17th—is just flat spells with onshore or cross-shore breezes at best. Tuesday morning August 4th goes glassy, but there’s nothing to ride. For kite surfers, the stronger winds later in the run, like Thursday August 6th with a WSW wind at 19 mph and a cross-on chop, might be more interesting than paddle surfing. But for wave riding? Leave the boards at home, folks. This is a rare blank run for Erie, but it happens.
