The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it. Gotta be honest with you, this stretch ahead is looking pretty bleak for the Lake Erie region. We're looking at a long, long dry spell with no real surf to speak of for the entire 16-day window.
The only time we see any wave action at all is a brief pulse starting Tuesday the 28th and fading out by Thursday the 30th. Even then, it's not exactly something to write home about. The combined swell energy is weak, hitting a max of just 98 on Tuesday afternoon.
Erie (the break itself) is the only spot on the menu. It's a consistent spot, exposed to that west swell, but the whole setup is just battling poor conditions. Tuesday morning the 28th sees a small 0.9m swell (that's about 3 feet) from the NNW, but it's chopped up by a moderate cross-onshore breeze. By Tuesday afternoon, we get a little bump to 1.4m (around 4.6 feet) from the NW, and the wind turns onshore, making it a messy, poor-quality option. It's a beach setup, and with the wind and weak energy, it honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than a proper paddle session.
Wednesday the 29th is much the same story – 1.2m (4 feet) swell from the north on Wednesday morning, but the wind is onshore at 25 km/h (about 15.5 mph), so it's a write-off. Thursday the 30th morning drops to 0.6m (2 feet), and by the afternoon it's gone completely flat, although you do get a glassy surface for a little while.
After that, from Friday the 31st of July right through to the end of the forecast on the 11th of August, it's a total flat spell. Zero energy. Not a ripple. No standouts, no recommendations. For a lake like Erie, a blank run like this is more normal for the time of year, so don't be too surprised. Forecasts can change, but right now, put the board away for a couple of weeks.
