Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what we've got cookin' on Lake Erie.
Honestly, I'm lookin' at the next 16 days and it's a tough stretch for us. The forecast has waves, but they're tiny, short-period leftovers that just aren't gonna give us any proper rides. From now through to the end of the month, the swell is barely a whisper, if it's even there at all. We're lookin' at a long, quiet spell, with no real recommendations on offer. That's the kind of flat spell that can happen here, so it's not a shock, just a bummer.
The only time we see any real energy is around Friday, July 3rd, and it's a sad scene. Erie sees a tiny 1 ft swell from the west with a period of just 3 seconds. That's pure wind chop, and with a 12 mph cross-shore wind, it's gonna be choppy and messy. The combined swell energy is weak (2). The next few days offer a bit more, but it's still painfully small. Saturday morning, July 4th, we get a 1.3 ft swell from the WNW with a 4-second period. The combined energy is still weak (5) and a light cross-on breeze won't do it any favours.
Sunday morning, July 5th, goes completely flat. The afternoon brings a tiny 1 ft from the NE with a 3-second period. The combined energy is practically nothing (1). The wind does turn light offshore and it's clean, but with a wave that small, clean doesn't save it. This pattern of tiny, weak swells or complete flatness just keeps repeating. We see a few days with no wave data at all, just light wind and clean conditions, like the morning of Wednesday, July 8th, which is glassy but flat.
The wind is all over the place, but it doesn't matter because there's nothing to ride. We get some clean offshore breezes, like on Thursday morning, July 9th, and even a glassy afternoon on the 16th, but it's all for nothing when the lake is dead flat. The best we can say is that the water temperature is about average for this time of year, so if you're just out for a swim, it's fine.
Don't get your hopes up. There's nothing here for a surfer. We'll have to wait for a new storm track to bring some real life back into the lake.
