The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what we've got.
Honestly, mate, it's a quiet stretch ahead on Lake Erie. The entire 16-day window is a struggle for any decent paddle surfing. We're looking at a big gap of flat or near-flat conditions, and that's basically the story from now until the end of the forecast period. There are no good surf options in this whole run.
For the first few days, it's all about tiny, weak waves or no waves at all. Friday the 28th of August, we had a little pulse of swell from the NNE pushing in at 1 ft, but with a period of only 3 seconds, it's just wind slop. The wind was cross-onshore making it choppy, so not worth a look. The combined swell energy was next to nothing (4). The water temperature is sitting at 74°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year. After that, it's a lot of flat spells with just occasional scraps of energy. For instance, there's a little bump of 1.0 ft from the W on Tuesday the 1st of September, but the wind is cross or cross-onshore, making it messy.
As we head deeper into the first week of September and beyond, it just stays flat. There are no swells, and any hope of a wave is gone. This is one of those blank runs that's pretty normal for the area when there's no fetch on the lake. The setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if the wind picks up.
Keep an eye on the long-range, but right now, I'd be doing something else.
