The Lowdown
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this 16-day window for Lake Erie is looking like a long, flat spell. There’s a tiny bit of energy on the very first day, but it’s not worth paddling out for. After that, we’re looking at a solid stretch of nothing.
We start off Tuesday afternoon, August 18th, with a weak 0.7 ft W swell rolling in at a 3-second period. The combined energy is a measly (1), and it’s cross-on from the WSW at 9 mph. The water is a warm 77°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but the waves are just a mess. Don’t bother.
Then, from Wednesday morning, August 19th, right through to the end of the forecast, it’s a ghost town. There’s zero wave energy on the cards. The finder shows nothing but dashes where swell should be, and the combined energy is flat at 0. We’re talking about a dead period of nearly two weeks. There are a few days with clean, glassy conditions, like the 24th afternoon and 25th afternoon, and even some offshore winds on the 27th and 28th, but without any swell, it’s just a flat lake.
The only real mention of surf is Erie, but with no consistent swell forecast, there’s nothing to recommend. This kind of blank run is more normal for an inland lake during the summer, so don’t hold your breath. The forecasts can change, but for now, leave the boards in the car.
Rusty.
