The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you—this outlook for the next 16 days is a tough one to write. I've combed through the data, and honestly, there's just nothing to get excited about on the water. We're looking at a long stretch of flat, poor conditions.
The first day we see any swell at all is Wednesday, August 19th, but it's a joke. At Erie Beach, we're talking a tiny 1 ft swell from the WNW with a period of only 3 seconds — that's barely a ripple. The combined energy is a weak 2. The water temp is sitting at 76°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's about the only interesting thing. The rest of the week is a total write-off.
From Thursday, August 20th, all the way through Tuesday, September 3rd, the surf is essentially non-existent. There's nothing to recommend. Even though we get some clean, offshore winds around the 1st of September, there's no swell to work with. It's a blank run. For an area like Erie Beach, which is a fairly exposed beach break, these long flat spells are more normal than we'd like.
If you're an absolute beginner and just want to splash around in the ankle-biters on the 19th, you could go, but that's it. With the tiny swell, poor quality, and the beach setup, this is honestly looking more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
So, there it is. Nothing on the horizon. Forecasts can change, but for now, it's a big fat zero.
