The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a long, hard look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it's a lean stretch. The forecast is stubbornly quiet, with only a handful of tiny, marginal pulses that barely qualify as surf. We're looking at a lot of flat, choppy, or just plain poor conditions, so don't be expecting any hero sessions.
The first real chance comes on the morning of Saturday, August 23rd. It's not much, but it's something. Head to El Palito, a beach and breakwater setup that's fairly exposed. The water's sitting at a warm 84°F, which is about normal for this time of year. We'll see a tiny 3ft swell from the NE with a short period of 6 seconds, giving us weak energy (58). What makes this window worth a mention is the light S breeze, 6 mph, coming cross-offshore. That'll keep the surface clean, which is rare. It's surfable, but very ordinary. It's a beginner-friendly zone, and crowds are possible.
After that, we hit a long, dry spell. The next hopeful window is Saturday, August 30th, in the morning. We get a slight bump: a 3ft NE swell, still with that short 8-second period, but the combined energy climbs to a moderate 129. The wind is a light 6 mph from the NE, coming cross-on, which kicks up a few small ripples. The conditions are still rated as poor, but it's the biggest we'll see for a while. It's a kite-friendly setup on a day like this.
Then it's back to flatness. We get a glassy morning on Tuesday, September 1st, with a slight air from the NNE, but there's zero swell. After that, we see another tiny pulse on the morning of Friday, September 4th – a 3ft NE swell with 6-second period (58 energy) and light wind from the N, but it's a poor outlook.
So, the standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of Saturday, August 30th at El Palito. It's the biggest energy we see, and it offers the only moderate wave energy in the entire forecast. The rest is a waiting game. Don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
