The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I’ve got to be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at a pretty grim stretch ahead. The only break that gets a mention is El Palito, a beginner-friendly beach and breakwater setup that’s fairly consistent but exposed to the NNE. The water is sitting at a warm 84°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year. Nothing to get excited about there.
The first few days are a write-off. Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th bring tiny, weak swell with combined energy readings of just 36 and 29 (weak), and the "poor surf conditions" tag says it all. The winds are light, but there’s just no energy in the water – it’s a flat spell.
We do see a tiny pulse on Tuesday the 25th morning. The swell nudges up to 3ft from the NE with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 63 (still weak). The wind is glassy, which is a major positive for clean conditions. The description says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," and honestly, that’s about as good as it gets. For a beginner, this might be a chance to get wet on a longboard, but don’t expect any kind of quality.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. From Wednesday the 26th morning all the way through to Monday the 7th of September, the forecast is almost entirely zeros for swell height and combined energy. There are long gaps of days with no recommendations at all. We’ll see a few tiny blips of 0.3ft to 3ft here and there, but the energy is so low (single digits and teens) that it’s not worth paddling out for. The winds are often cross-on or onshore, and some afternoons come with a risk of thunderstorms.
The only real standout – if you can call it that – is Tuesday the 25th morning at El Palito. The swell is 3ft from the NE, and with glassy conditions, it’ll be the cleanest the beach gets. But it’s tiny, weak, and the quality is just ordinary. The rest of the 16-day window is a bust. This is one of those runs where the forecast can change, but right now, it’s a wait-and-see situation.
Rusty, signing off.
