The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. This is a quiet spell for our area, so temper those expectations.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, it's a pretty flat run. There are no real standouts, no big swells rolling in, just a few moments where the ocean might offer up something small if you're desperate for a paddle. The first real opportunity, if you can call it that, comes on the morning of Sunday, the 23rd of August.
El Palito is the only spot on the cards. It's a beach and breakwater setup, fairly exposed to the swell, but it's a beginner-friendly wave. The water temperature is sitting at 84°, which is about average for the time of year.
The only window that looks even remotely surfable is the morning of Sunday, August 23rd. We've got a tiny 3ft swell rolling in from the NE, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined wave energy is weak (58). The wind, however, is the saving grace here – it's glassy. That means the surface will be clean, but the waves themselves will be small and weak. Fair to say it's a beginner's session, or good for a longboard if you're just looking to get wet.
After that, it's a long dry spell. The rest of the month and into September is a total write-off, with nothing but poor surf conditions and onshore breezes. The exception is a tiny, very long-period groundswell showing up on the morning of Thursday, the 27th of August, with a 16-second period and a wave height of just 0.3ft. That's barely a bump, and the combined energy is a measly (10). Not worth wetting a wetsuit for.
The next real blip on the radar is the morning of Thursday, the 3rd of September. Again, we're looking at 3ft from the NE, 6-second period, and weak energy (60). The wind is glassy again, so it'll be clean, but it's the same story: small, weak, and for beginners. For the rest of the extended forecast, it's just cross-on shore chop and flat spells. This break is fairly consistent, but even it can't find a wave this time around.
To be honest, with the small, weak swell and the onshore wind that's forecast, if you're looking for a thrill, this setup might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on most of those afternoons.
Stay patient, folks. The forecast can always change.
Rusty.
