The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for El Palito. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this 16-day window is looking pretty grim. We’re staring down a long stretch of flatness and poor conditions, and it’s going to be a real test of patience. For the first week and a half, from Monday the 13th right through to almost the end of the following week, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The surf is completely absent for days on end, with only a few tiny, unrideable signals showing up. The water temp is sitting at a warm 82°F, which is about average for this time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re sitting on the beach.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Friday the 24th of July. The early morning session might just be worth a look. We’ve got a tiny 3ft swell rolling in from the NE, with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is weak at 84. But the wind is absolutely glassy, dead calm out of the north-northeast, which will make the surface clean as a whistle. This is a beginner spot, and the break is a beach and breakwater setup, so for a learner, that small, clean, and manageable wave could be a fun little novelty. The afternoon cleans up even more with a light cross-offshore breeze out of the southeast, keeping the 3ft NE swell tidy. The combined energy nudges up to 86, but it’s still weak. It’s not a standout for anyone with experience, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, this is your only window.
After that, it’s right back to the flat spell. Saturday the 25th of July morning has a pulse of 3ft NE swell with a weak 105 energy, but the wind goes onshore, and it’s described as poor. The 26th and 27th of July are just as hopeless, with nothing but tiny, poorly directed leftovers.
So, the bottom line: there’s one morning and afternoon on Friday the 24th that might give a beginner a few clean, tiny waves. The rest of the 16 days is a write-off. It’s a tough call for this area, but the forecasts can change, so don’t lose all hope.
Rusty.
