Alright, Rusty here, and we’re down to one spot for the whole run: Cuyagua. Nothing else is on the map, so this is it.
Let's be honest, the first week is a rough one. From Monday the 6th through Sunday the 12th, the reports are all “poor” or “marginal.” The wind is mostly cross-on or side-shore, throwing the face off. The swell is a short-period windswell (7-8 seconds) from the ENE, which doesn't match the break's best angle from the north. The water temp is about what you’d expect for the season.
A couple of "marginal" slots pop up—like Thursday the 9th afternoon with 7ft of ENE swell and light side-shore wind, or Sunday the 12th morning with a lighter north wind and 6ft. But both are just "maybe" sessions, not something to plan a trip around.
The real window, the only clear standout, comes on Tuesday the 14th morning. The wind goes glassy—dead calm—and we’ve got 5ft of NE swell rolling in. The period is still short at 7 seconds, and the energy is moderate, but glassy conditions are pure gold. It’ll be clean, and for a reef break, a short period isn't the end of the world.
After that, it’s back to marginal on Wednesday the 15th with light east winds and 5ft, then mostly poor conditions stretching all the way to the 21st. The morning of the 21st is another “marginal” call with a light north wind and 6ft of swell, but that’s deep in the long-range, so keep your expectations in check.
For a paddle surfer, your only real shot at a clean wave in this whole 16-day run is Tuesday the 14th morning. It’s a long time to wait for one good session, but with Cuyagua being fairly consistent, it's not a total shock, and forecasts can change.
For the kite crowd: the first week has solid cross-on wind and building swell up to 10ft. That’s a much better bet for you than for the rest of us.
Rusty out.
