Playa Waikiki, Puerto Cabello Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the coming weeks at Playa Waikiki, Puerto Cabello.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a grim outlook. We're looking at a solid chunk of time with nothing worth paddling out for. The first week and a half is basically a write-off. From Saturday the 8th of August right through to the morning of Sunday the 16th, it's all poor surf conditions. The wind is mostly cross-onshore, there's a bit of chop, and the swell is small and weak. Energy readings are all over the place but mostly low, with a few days like the 13th and 14th showing moderate energy (149 and 147 respectively), but it’s still messy. You'll be fighting a losing battle.

The water temperature is sitting at 82°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so at least the water's warm if you just want a float.

Now, the first real glimmer of hope comes on Monday the 17th of August. It's not a day to set the world on fire, but it's surfable. The morning sees a light SSW breeze at 3 mph, going cross-offshore, which cleans things up nicely. We've got a tiny 2 ft swell from the NE with a period of 8 seconds. The energy is weak at 58, but the conditions will be clean. It's a very ordinary wave, but it's the best we've seen in a while.

Then we have a couple of other mornings that are worth a mention. Tuesday the 18th of August morning has a 3 ft NE swell, but the period jumps to 11 seconds, which gives it a bit more grunt and shape. The energy is moderate at 216. The wind is a light 3 mph from the north, making it cross-on, so there'll be a few ripples on the surface. It's only a marginal one, though.

The standout of the entire run, if you can call it that, is Wednesday the 19th of August morning. This is the one to pencil in. The forecast is for glassy conditions with a light NNW wind at 3 mph. That’s a major positive. The swell is 4 ft from the NE with an 8-second period, and a moderate energy of 135. It's a very ordinary wave, but with glassy conditions, it'll be the cleanest you'll find all fortnight. The swell is small enough for beginners and the conditions will be perfect for a longboard. It's a beginner-friendly spot, but crowds are possible here, so get out early.

The rest of the period after that falls back into the same old story of cross-onshore winds and small, weak swell. The 22nd and 23rd of August see the swell drop right back to 3 ft with a poor 6-second period and energy dropping to 42. It's a flat and choppy end to the outlook.

So, to sum it up: the first 9 days are a right-off. The morning of Monday the 17th is a bit of a cleaner window, but the absolute best bet is the glassy morning of Wednesday the 19th of August. After that, it's back to the slow lane.
