The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for East Wittering.
To be straight with you, it’s a grim picture. We’re looking at a full 16-day stretch with nothing that’s really going to get the heart pumping. We're starting right now with Wednesday the 29th of July, and there's hardly a ripple to speak of. The swell energy is practically a whisper, never getting above a 13 on the energy scale—that's basically flat. The whole period is littered with blanks and days where the sea just looks messy. We go through Thursday, Friday, all the way through to August, and there’s just no decent push of swell. It's a long, quiet run.
The only spot on the radar is East Wittering, a beach-and-groyne setup that’s a sheltered, inconsistent kind of wave. It wants swell from the SW to really work. The problem is, for this entire outlook, the swell is either non-existent or just a pathetic 0.3 ft. When there is a tiny bump, it's often coming from the wrong direction or the wind is howling onshore. You see a glimmer early on Friday the 31st with a bit of a cross-offshore breeze in the morning, but with a swell height of 0.3 ft, you’re just lying on your board. Even the few sessions with a gentle offshore breeze on the 3rd, 5th, and 9th of August are wasted on waves too small to ride.
Honestly, it’s one of those periods where the ocean just shuts down. There's no stand-out day, no sneaky swell to hold out for. For us at East Wittering, this is just the way it goes sometimes. The forecasts might shuffle around, but for now, you’re better off keeping the board in the van and waiting for the next proper swell.
Stay salty,
Rusty.
