Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down what we’ve got.
Honestly, mate, I look at this forecast and my heart sinks a little. We are looking at a long, flat stretch ahead. There is no surf on offer right now, and the outlook basically stays that way all the way through the 16-day window. From Sunday, July 5th, all the way through Monday, July 20th, it’s nothing but tiny, weak waves – mostly around 0.7 ft – with hardly any energy behind them. The combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly a measly single-digit number (2 to 11), so don't expect anything with any push.
For the first week, from Sunday the 5th through Thursday the 10th, the swell is tiny, period is short (5-6 seconds), and it’s mostly coming from the south. There's a brief moment on the 10th/11th where the period stretches to 10 seconds, giving a bit more shape, but the height stays at 0.7 ft. That longer period swell would be better for a point or reef, but here at this beach and reef set-up, it’ll probably just roll through without breaking. We’ve got offshore winds in the mornings most days, which would normally get you excited, but with no wave to push, it’s just clean and flat.
Come the second week, from July 12th onwards, it’s more of the same – maybe a touch smaller. The 12th and 13th see the swell drop to 0.3 ft from the north with a period of 11-12 seconds. That’s a groundswell, but it’s barely a ripple. Inconsistent is being kind; really, it’s almost not breaking at all. The rest of the week is just the same story: tiny south swell, clean winds, but no surf.
Look, for a sheltered spot like Crash Boat, this kind of dead run is just part of the deal sometimes. It’s a beach and reef set-up, so when there’s real swell, it can be a ripper, but there’s nothing to get excited about here. The water temp is a warm 84°F, which is about a degree and a half warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you’re just floating around, it’s lovely. But for proper surfing? You’d be better off with a paddleboard or a kite. The wind’s offshore and clean so often that if a kite could catch this nothing, it’d be a dream, but for a surfer, it’s a bust. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a long, flat gap.
Rusty.
