The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk Crash Boat in feet and miles per hour, because the story’s the same—just different numbers.
This is a beach and reef break that’s getting skunked for the next 16 days. The swell is tiny, the energy is pathetic, and most of it is labelled “poor surf conditions”. The combined wave energy is mostly one- or two-digit values, which tells you the ocean is basically taking a nap.
We start mid-August. On Wednesday the 19th, there’s a 0.7 ft swell from the north with a period of 7 seconds. The wind is glassy, so the surface is perfect, but you’d be hard-pressed to catch anything rideable. It stays in that 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft range for days, with periods under 8 seconds. Thursday the 20th morning sees a 1.0 ft north swell, glassy, 7 seconds—still tiny. The afternoons get a bit windier with offshore breezes but the wave height doesn’t budge.
Then we hit a real flat spell from the 23rd to the 25th of August. A few mornings show zero height, no swell at all. The 25th afternoon brings a bump to 2 ft from the south-southeast, but the period is only 4 seconds and the energy is 22—weak, messy, and not worth the drive.
Through the end of August and into September, it’s all 0.7 ft dribbles. The 27th of August morning is glassy, 0.7 ft from the south, period 6 seconds—clean but nearly flat. The first days of September are more of the same: light winds, tiny waves, and no power. The water temp is about normal for the season, nothing crazy.
For a standout? There isn’t one. If you’re a beginner, the glassy mornings with 0.7 ft might be a fun paddle. For anyone else, it’s a full-on flat spell. Crash Boat is rarely consistent, and this long gap is just part of the rhythm here. Stay patient, check back later.
