Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer.
To be straight with you, this stretch is flat as a pancake for the whole 16-day window. If you’re looking to paddle out, you’re looking at a long, dry spell. The swell barely tickles the shore for the whole run, so don't get your hopes up.
The only spot in the frame is Crash Boat (Puerto Rico). It’s a beach and reef setup that’s sheltered and needs a west swell to really wake up. The water temp is sitting at a pretty normal 84°, about average for this time of year. That’s the one bit of good news – at least the water feels nice if you’re just floating around.
From Friday the 3rd of July all the way through to Saturday the 18th of July, the waves are barely a whisper. We’re looking at 0.7ft swell, sometimes nudging 1.0ft on the afternoon of the 14th, but that’s it. The combined swell energy is laughably weak – we're talking readings in the single digits, like 8 or 2 or 6 – that’s practically nothing. It means zero push for a surfboard. The wind is actually offshore for a lot of the time, with nice light breezes and clean conditions, but there’s nothing to ride. It’s one of those heartbreaking weeks where the conditions look pretty but offer nothing.
Because the swell is so small and weak, and the break is a beach and reef setup, honestly this stretch looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. There’s just no wave to work with.
The truth is, for this area, a blank run like this isn’t unheard of. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, there’s no surf worth chasing.
Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
