The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window is a tough one for Crash Boat. The numbers are just not adding up for any decent surf. We're looking at a long, long stretch of flat to near-flat conditions, with a consistent run of "poor surf conditions" showing up all the way through the forecast. The water temperature is sitting at 85°F with a 1°F anomaly, so it's about average for this time of year, which is nice for a paddle, but that's about the only positive.
From now through the end of the first week and into the second week, it’s a real desert. We’ve got days of nothing but tiny, weak pulses from the south with periods around 5 seconds and combined energy levels barely hitting single digits (2 to 5). The wind is often offshore from the ENE or NE, which would be ideal if there was any swell to work with, but there isn't. A few times we see a tiny 0.3ft north swell with a 13-second period, but even then, the energy is only 4 or 5. It's like finding a drop of water in the desert.
There's a very slight uptick around September 7th, over a week away. Monday morning the 7th shows a 2ft swell from the north with a 10-second period, and the energy gets up to 69. Monday afternoon sees a 2ft north swell at 74 energy. That's still weak, and the comment is still "poor surf conditions." The wind is light offshore in the morning and a gentle offshore in the afternoon, which would keep things clean. But it's a far cry from a day you'd load up the car for. The swell direction from the north is off from the optimum west swell this spot is known for, and with the inconsistency issue, it's a real gamble.
So, what's the best on offer? Honestly, there isn't a standout. If I had to pick the least-bad window, it's the afternoon of September 7th. You might find a few crumbly, knee-high waves from the north with a clean face. But don't expect any power or shape. The rest of the time, you're better off finding other things to do. This is a classic case of a blank run for this area, so don't be too surprised. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a no-go.
Rusty.
