The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s goin’ on for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, we’re lookin’ at a real dry spell. The ocean is just flat-out quiet for the entire 16-day window. There’s barely a bump to be found. From Friday, July 17th, right through to the end of the month, it’s a whole lot of poor surf conditions with tiny, weak waves. The combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly in the single digits (1 to 6), which is just a ripple. Even the best days only manage a combined energy of 25, which is still weak—not enough to get your heart pumpin’. There’s a long stretch here with no real surf to speak of.
The only break in the cards is Crash Boat, a beach and reef setup that’s rated for advanced surfers and is inconsistent. It’s a sheltered spot that needs a good swell from the west to really fire, but the forecast is showin’ swells from the south and southeast all fortnight—total wrong direction. The water temp is a warm 84°F at the start, which is about par for the course this time of year, so you can’t blame the water, but it won’t help you catch a thing.
You’ll get a few mornings with clean offshore winds, but the swell is laughable—mostly 0.3ft to 0.7ft with periods of 5 to 10 seconds. That’s not enough to break a ripple. On Wednesday, July 22nd, we get a glassy morning with zero swell, flat as a lake. The 18th, 19th, and 20th of July have clean winds, but there’s nothing to ride.
The only tiny flicker of hope comes right at the tail end. On Monday, July 27th, afternoon, we see a little bump: 2ft from the SSE with a 5-second period and a combined energy of 25. That’s still weak and short-period, but it’s the biggest swell we’ll get. Then on Wednesday, July 29th, we get a slight shift with a 0.7ft swell from the NNW with a 9-second period, which is a bit more directional for Crash Boat, but still tiny. The winds stay clean and offshore, but the waves are just too small to get excited about.
Forget a standout here—there’s nothin’ to stand out. This is a blank run, and for a sheltered spot like Crash Boat, that’s pretty normal when the swell direction doesn’t line up. If you’re really desperate, the 27th of July afternoon or the 29th of July might give you a couple of knee-high sliders, but don’t get your hopes up. The setup with those tiny swells and strong onshore winds on the 20th of July (19 mph from the ENE) might actually look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, but that’s about it.
Rusty.
