Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve had a good look at the charts for Courtown, and I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s shaping up as a real flat spell. There’s nothing surfable on the cards for the first week or more. The swell is barely a ripple, mostly from the south with these super long-period pulses that just don’t have any power behind them. We’re talking combined wave energy barely reaching double digits early on, just 4 to 19. The water’s sitting at a balmy 62°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, but there’s no surf to enjoy it in.

Monday the 6th is a total write-off with a tiny 0.3ft swell and cross-off winds. Tuesday and Wednesday are more of the same – glassy conditions on Wednesday morning which is a tease, but with no waves to ride. The whole first week is a bleak picture of micro-swell and poor surf.

We finally see a pulse of energy arrive on Saturday morning, 11th July. It’s got a 4ft swell from the NE, but the period is a short, weak 6 seconds, so it’ll be fat and crumbly. The combined energy reads 114 (moderate), but the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-shore, making it lumpy and messy. By the look of the setup and these conditions, this might actually be more interesting for kite surfing than paddling. Don’t bother.

The next faint glimmer comes on the 17th of July – a Friday morning with a 3ft SSW swell and a longer 6-second period. The combined energy hits 108 (moderate) and we have a moderate cross-shore wind. Still not clean, still not great. The glassy conditions on Saturday the 18th might offer a rare window, but the swell is just 2ft from the south. It’s a frustrating wait.

Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, there is not a single standout day. It’s a long, dry spell, which for this area is more normal than you’d hope. Keep the board waxed and watch the forecasts – things can change, but right now, it’s a big fat nothing.

Rusty.
