Table - best surf conditions forecast for Courtown over the next 16 days.
Alright mates, Rusty here. Let's break down this 16-day window.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it: this is a rough one. We're looking at a long stretch of nothing for the next 16 days. The whole forecast is screaming "poor surf conditions" from start to finish. The energy is just not there.
The only spot in the mix is Courtown, a point break. The water is sitting at a warm 64°F, which is a massive 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That's a real standout – the ocean is feeling like a summer bathtub.
We kick off on Sunday, July 12th. No dice. It's a tiny 2ft to 3ft easterly windswell with a shocking 4-second period, and a moderate breeze is blowing cross-shore, making it lumpy. The combined energy is a measly 17 to 51 – weak as dishwater.
Monday the 13th is more of the same. The wind picks up, the swell is still tiny and messy. Forget it.
Tuesday the 14th shows a bit more energy in the afternoon, with the combined swell energy hitting 124 (moderate), but it's still a 4ft windswell on a 5-second period with a fresh cross-shore wind. The conditions are just poor.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are flat. Thursday afternoon actually goes glassy, with a 0.3ft swell, but that's not surf. It's a dead calm.
The second week doesn't get any better. From Friday the 17th right through to Monday the 27th of July, the swell barely registers. We're looking at endless days of 0.3ft to 1ft southerly slop with periods all over the place. There are a few moments of clean, glassy conditions or light offshore winds, but when the swell is a ghost, it doesn't matter how clean the water is. The combined energy values are almost never above 20 – it's a desert.
Even the last few days, from the 22nd to the 27th, we see some clean offshore winds from the west and northwest, but the swell is nonexistent. It's a cruel tease. The water is flat, and the energy is zero.
So, here's the bottom line: There is no standout session. There is no best day. The entire 16-day window is a bust for surfing at Courtown. If you're a kitesurfer, maybe some of those breezy, choppy days with a bit of wind might look interesting, but for a paddle surfer, it's a long, dry spell. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a blank run. Put the boards away and maybe go for a swim in that unusually warm water.
Rusty.
