The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gonna be honest with you, looking at the next 16 days for Courtown, it’s a rough stretch. We’re staring down a long, quiet period with barely a ripple to get excited about.

The first bit of anything resembling a wave shows up on the 22nd of July, Wednesday afternoon, with a tiny 2ft swell from the northeast. But the wind is a cross-onshore from the ENE at 6 mph, so it’s going to be a bit choppy and messy. Not worth the paddle. The combined energy of all swells is weak (21).

The pattern is grim. There’s a significant gap from the 22nd all the way through to the end of the month. We see some glassy, clean conditions on the 24th of July morning with a glassy wind from the NW, but the swell is a pathetic 0.3ft from the south with a very long period of 13 seconds. That’s barely a bump, and the energy is next to nothing (3). There are a few morning windows with offshore winds, like the 25th and 26th of July, with a moderate WNW breeze at 16 mph, but again, the swell is just 0.3ft. It’s clean, but flat.

The real tease is a patch of clean, offshore winds on the 27th and 28th of July, but there is literally zero swell height recorded. The combined energy is zero. It’s a flat calm.

We finally get a little pulse of energy on the 4th of August, Tuesday. The morning brings a tiny 0.3ft south swell (15 seconds period, moderate energy at 12), but with a cross-onshore breeze from the SSE. The afternoon is a bit more interesting but still poor: a 2ft northeast swell, but it’s short period at 4 seconds and the wind is onshore from the SE. The combined energy is still weak (19). The best looking window is the 3rd of August, Monday morning, with glassy conditions and a 1.0ft south-southeast swell (6 seconds period, slight energy at 11), but it’s just not enough.

Courtown is a point break that is fairly consistent, but this forecast is a total washout. With such tiny swell and poor surf quality, it’s a blank run for the area. There’s nothing here to recommend. Keep an eye on the long-range for a change, but for now, the boards are staying in the van.

Rusty.
