The Lowdown
Rusty here, with a look at what's on tap for the Courtown region.
Honestly, it's a tough one, folks. The entire 16-day window is a total write-off. There's not a single session that's worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, pretty much non-existent, with heights barely budging from 0.3ft to 1ft. The combined wave energy is pathetic, peaking at a measly 80 (weak energy) and mostly sitting in the low single digits. It's a flat spell, plain and simple.
We see a few moments of calm, glassy conditions on the morning of the 23rd of August and again on the 3rd of September, and even a few offshore breezes around the 28th of August, but with zero swell to work with, it doesn't matter. Even when the wind looks okay, the waves are just not there. There's a bit of a bump of windswell around the 25th and 26th of August, but it's onshore, short period (5 seconds), and junky. For a point break like Courtown, this setup would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Water temperatures are about average for the time of year, so that's not a factor. But the bottom line is, there's no surf. Courtown is a fairly consistent spot, so a blank run like this is a bit unusual, but it happens. The forecasts can change, so keep an eye out, but for now, the boards stay on the beach.
Rusty.
