The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough watch for the next couple of weeks at Courtown. This is a point break that's fairly consistent, but the ocean just isn't playing ball.

We’re looking at a long stretch of flat, weak surf right through to the end of the forecast. The first recommendation is on Saturday the 5th, but honestly, don't get your hopes up. We’re talking about 0.3 ft of south swell with a period of 14 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 6, so there’s barely a ripple. Water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The wind is light and cross-off in the morning, so it’s clean, but there's just nothing to ride.

For the next several days, it’s a rinse and repeat story. We see a tiny bump on Sunday the 6th with a 3 ft south swell, but the period is a shocking 4 seconds – that’s pure wind chop, not a wave you want to be on. The wind is a fresh cross-shore 19 mph, making it lumpy and messy. That’s pretty much the story through the first week and into the second: tiny swells, inconsistent, and often blown out. The only real standout in terms of wind is a brief window on Tuesday afternoon, the 8th, with a clean offshore breeze, but it’s still only 0.7 ft. Not worth paddling out for.

There’s a slight tease on Thursday the 10th morning with a 4 ft swell from the SSW and a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy hits 143 – moderate energy for sure. But the wind is a moderate cross-off, and the period is still short, so it’ll be a crumbly, weak affair. Not a true standout.

The rest of the second week flatlines completely. From the 16th to the 20th, we’ve got days with zero swell and zero energy. It’s a dead ocean. This is a blank run, and for this area, it’s not totally abnormal, but it’s still a bummer. The last few days show a return to tiny 0.3 ft south swells, but with onshore or cross-on winds, so it’s not worth a second look.

Bottom line: There is no good surf on offer in this 16-day window. The best you could hope for is a clean, flat day for a paddle, but don’t bring a surfboard. The forecasts can change, but right now, this is a solid "wait and see" period.

Rusty.
