The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s cooking at Courtown for the next couple weeks. I’ll be honest – it’s a lean patch, but there’s a blip or two worth paddling out for.
The first week is pretty much a dud. Wave heights are stuck at around 0.3ft to 0.7ft, with the odd offshore breeze keeping it clean but totally flat. Combined swell energy is down in the single digits to the 20s (weak energy). Even with a long period of 15-17 seconds, there’s nothing to push you down the line. You’d be floating.
Tuesday the 25th brings some light rain and a cross-onshore wind with a 4ft swell from the SSE, but it’s only a 5-second period. Energy hits 67-82 (still moderate), but it’s lumpy and messy – not point break waves, more like wind-chop play.
Your best shot comes on Monday the 31st of August. The afternoon delivers a 5ft swell from the SSE, period 8 seconds, and a combined energy of 238 (moderate energy). The wind is cross-onshore, so it won’t be perfect, but that’s the most juice we get all outlook. For a point break, that’s your highlight.
The mornings around Tuesday the 1st of September also have clean offshore wind from the W with a 2ft S swell (energy 78), but it’s small. Water temp is about normal for the season.
Bottom line: there are big gaps of flatness between any real hope. That’s normal for this area right now. Keep your eyes peeled, but don’t expect much.
