The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be honest from the start: this is a tough one. The entire 16-day window for the Courtown area is looking like a flat spell. There is no surf to speak of. The first recommendation doesn't come until the end of the period, and even then it's barely a whisper.
We're looking at a long, dry gap. From the start of the period on the 2nd of August, right through to the 14th of August, the swell is basically non-existent. We're talking about wave heights that are either missing or a tiny 0.3 ft. The combined energy readings are in the single digits, mostly just 2, 3, or 4 (weak wave energy). It's a write-off.
The only glimmer, and I mean the faintest glimmer, comes on the 15th of August. Saturday morning, we get a bit of a pulse. The forecast shows a 1.0 ft swell from the south, with a period of 5 seconds. It's a short period, weak wind swell, and the combined energy is only 8 (still weak). The winds are supposed to be calm and glassy, which is a major positive. But with a swell that small, it's going to be tiny, gutless little waves. The water temperature is sitting at 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
After that little blip, it's back to flat conditions through the 16th and 17th of August. Honestly, for a stretch like this, it's more normal for the area. When the ocean goes quiet, it goes quiet. But forecasts can change, so don't write the whole month off just yet.
For now, the only thing worth paddling out for is that glassy 1.0 ft bump on Saturday the 15th. It's not a standout, it's the only option.
Rusty.
