The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
The short version is, we're looking at a flat spell. There's nothing on the table for the next 16 days that's going to get the heart rate up. The swell is tiny, and the energy just isn't there. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year, so it's a good bit toastier than average.
Starting from Saturday the 18th, right through to Sunday the 2nd of August, it's a total write-off. The surf is poor across the board. The biggest swell we see is a tiny 2ft from the S on the afternoon of Monday the 27th of July, but even that's got no grunt. The combined energy readings are all in the single digits or low teens – that's barely a ripple. The wind is mostly offshore or cross-offshore, which would usually be a good sign, but with nothing to push, it's just clean and flat. There's a few glassy mornings on the 19th and the 23rd, but again, flat as a pancake.
For a spot like Courtown, a point break that's fairly consistent, this is a long stretch of nothing. It's a blank run that's more normal for the area when the Southern Ocean goes quiet. Forecasts can change, but for now, there's nothing to recommend. Hang the boards up, grab a coffee, and wait for the next pulse.
Rusty.
