Courtown Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Look, I’ll be straight with you—this stretch of coast is in a proper flat spell. If you’re hanging out for a wave, you’re going to be waiting a while. There’s just nothing on the table for the next couple of weeks. The swell stays tiny, the periods are short, and the energy is almost non-existent. It’s one of those long, quiet gaps where the ocean just goes to sleep.

The first spot on the radar is Courtown, a point break that’s fairly consistent but right now it’s doing nothing. The water’s sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a small sign of things being a bit off, but mostly it’s just flat and calm. Tuesday morning starts with a weak 1ft of south swell at 5 seconds, with a gentle offshore breeze that would make it clean if there was anything to ride. But there isn’t. The combined energy is a paltry 8—that’s weak, dead water.

Wednesday and Thursday are no better. The swell tries to nudge up a little, getting to 3ft and then 5ft by Thursday afternoon, but the period is only 4 to 6 seconds, and the wind swings onshore and lumpy. The energy does climb to 129 on Thursday arvo, so you can feel there’s a bit more push, but it’s short-period, junky, cross-shore slop. Not worth paddling out for.

The weekend rolls in and it’s the same story. Friday morning has a tiny 1ft with a light offshore, but it’s just not there. Saturday and Sunday stay small, with the swell hovering around the 1ft to 4ft mark and short, weak periods. There’s a moment on Saturday afternoon where the energy hits 63, and the wind is cross-off, so it looks clean, but 4ft at 5 seconds is mush. Not a wave you’d write home about.

Next week, nothing changes. From Monday the 15th through to the 23rd, the swell just fades away to almost nothing. Periods jump up a touch—some 12 to 18 second pulses—but they’re carrying no height at all, like 0.3ft. It’s the classic long-period, no-size tease. There’s a glassy morning on Thursday the 17th and another on Friday the 18th, but you could water-ski across it. A couple of days even see an easterly breeze pick up, chopping up an already flat ocean.

So, what’s the call? There are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Honestly, Courtown can be a fun little point, but only when there’s actual swell. This stretch is just a blank run—more normal for this area than a lot of folks like to admit. Forecasts can change, and it won’t stay this poor forever, but right now, you’re better off finding something else to do. Leave the boards in the shed.
