The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty comin' at ya from the beach. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, we're in for a long, slow grind before anything real shows up. The first real chance of a wave isn't until Thursday the 20th, so we're looking at a solid two-day gap of flat, poor conditions right off the bat.
The first few days are a write-off. Tuesday the 18th is tiny, with a weak 1ft NNW windswell and a cross-shore breeze. The combined energy is a pathetic 27, so don't even bother. Wednesday the 19th is even worse, with barely a ripple. The waiting game is on.
On Thursday the 20th, we finally see a pulse of energy. The swell builds to 4ft from the NW with a 11-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 305. The problem is the wind is questionable with light rain, and the forecast is only marginal. Friday the 21st sees the swell push up to 6ft from the NW, but it's a messy, choppy mess with onshore winds. The period drops to 10 seconds, and the energy is 599, but it's just not clean. The whole first week is a struggle.
The light at the end of the tunnel is Thursday the 27th of August. That's the one to circle on your calendar. The swell holds at 6ft from the NW, but the period is a solid 11 seconds, and the combined energy is a strong 740. The morning is forecast to be glassy with a SE wind, and the wave comment says "expect very good surf conditions". That's a proper groundswell for the points and reefs, and it'll be clean. Keep in mind, at 6ft, it's pushing into intermediate territory, but the glassy conditions will make it a dream.
Friday the 28th sticks around with a 4ft NW swell and glassy conditions in the morning, but the energy is down to 267. It's a good option for a cleaner, smaller follow-up session. After that, the weekend of the 29th and 30th looks messy again with onshore winds and drop in energy.
By the first week of September, the swell tries to kick back in on Wednesday the 2nd with a 5ft NW swell, but the wind is onshore and it's a choppy mess. The forecast window just doesn't cooperate for a clean finish.
So, the long and short of it: be patient. The absolute standout is the morning of Thursday the 27th of August. Get in the water then. The rest of the period is either flat or blown out.
Rusty.
