The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again with the imperial version.

First off, it’s gonna be a long dry spell. Starting from September 14th right through to the morning of September 27th, it’s basically all poor surf conditions at Cannons. Tiny swell, messy cross-on breezes, and no real reason to get wet. That’s a solid 13-day stretch with nothing worth mentioning.

Finally, on Sunday the 27th of September, we get a pulse. Morning sees a 6ft swell from the north with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 771 – that’s moderate and the best we’ve seen by far. Winds are light offshore from the NNE, so it should be clean. This is a reef break, fairly consistent, so it should handle that north swell. It’s a marginal call, but it’s the standout of the whole outlook. Crowds are “often,” so don’t expect solitude. Water temp is 80°F, right about normal for this time of year. Sunday afternoon stays in the game with 5ft from the north, still offshore, energy down a bit to 637.

Monday the 28th brings a 2ft groundswell from the northwest with a very long period of 15–16 seconds. That kind of period means better shaped waves and longer lulls, and at a reef break that can be a real treat. Winds are light cross-on or offshore. Still a marginal call though.

After that, it fades off into small and messy again. The window is tight – make the most of that Sunday the 27th if you can.

Rusty.
