The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’ve got the long-range picture for Campbells.
To be straight with you, this forecast window is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of mediocre to poor conditions, with the only real window of opportunity arriving this coming Thursday. For the most part, the wind is going to be a pest, and the swell is going to be small, making it a waiting game. The first good surf doesn't show up until Thursday, the 20th of August.
The water temperature is sitting at a warm 81°, which is about average for this time of year, so no need for a thick wetsuit.
Thursday the 20th is the standout session. Morning and afternoon both look good, with glassy conditions as the wind drops to near nothing. The swell will be small, around 2 feet from the SW, but with a nice long period of 17-18 seconds, meaning proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is moderate, reading at 356 in the morning and 344 in the afternoon. This is a reef break that loves that SW direction, so the shape should be fun despite the size. You’ll also want to note that this spot is inconsistent, so don't expect a wave every minute, but when they come, they’ll be clean and lined up. Crowds are often an issue here, so with such a small window of quality, expect company.
After that, Friday the 21st is a write-off with cross-shore wind messing things up. Saturday the 22nd morning has a bit of potential with a cross-offshore breeze and a bigger energy reading of 484, but the afternoon gets hammered by a strong cross-offshore wind. From Sunday the 23rd onwards, it’s mostly blown out, with strong to fresh winds from the ENE dominating. The swell stays small, mostly around 2 to 3 feet, and the energy readings bounce around, but the wind just ruins it.
There’s a glimmer on Friday the 28th of August with a moderate offshore wind and a clean forecast, and a 3 foot swell from the S, but it's a one-morning stand before the wind shifts again.
Basically, if you can paddle out Thursday, that’s your best bet. The rest of the two-week window is one to watch from the beach or pick up another hobby.
