Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s wade through what’s on offer.

Right off the bat, I have to be straight with you: the next sixteen days are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. The numbers just aren’t stacking up for anything worth getting excited about. The first real chance of a wave comes on Saturday the 12th of July, with a small 3ft swell from the NNW pushing in, but it’s a messy wind situation. The real kicker is that for the entire 16-day window, every single session is flagged as poor surf conditions. That’s a long stretch of disappointment.

There’s a tiny window on Sunday morning the 13th of July where we get a bit of offshore wind from the NNE and a 3ft swell from the NNW, but it’s paired with a weak 8-second period. The combined energy is only 149 (moderate wave energy), so it’s going to be fat and weak. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about.

The swell actually builds through the second week, with heights hitting 5ft by Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th, but the wind is relentless. It’s a constant cross-onshore mess from the north, blowing 15 to 18 mph. The wave energy ramps up, hitting 397 on the 18th, but it’s all lumpy, choppy, and blown out. For a reef break like Bristol, that’s a write-off. The swell direction is from the north, but the optimum for this spot is from the NNW, so it’s not even hitting the reef right.

Honestly, if you’re itching for a session, the morning of the 21st of July sees a slight drop in wind to a light breeze, with a 4ft N swell, but it’s still a cross-onshore. Not worth the drive.

This is a classic case of the swell being there, but the wind and quality just aren’t matching up. For a reef break, you need that clean line, and we just aren’t getting it. There’s no standout here, not a single day I’d put my neck out for. The best we can say is that the later days have a bit more size, but the conditions are a mess. If you’re desperate, maybe the 22nd of July morning with a gentle cross-shore from the NW and a 3ft N swell is the least terrible option, but honestly, don’t hold your breath.

Rusty.
