Table - best surf conditions forecast for Beavers over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for Beavers. Let’s not sugarcoat it – we’re in for a lean stretch, and you’ll need patience to find a salvageable session.
The first week opens with a long dry spell. From Saturday 11 July through to Tuesday 14 July, the surf is poor. Small, weak swells and cross-onshore winds mean it’s not worth a look. Water temp is about what you’d expect for the season, nothing wild.
The first glimmer appears on Tuesday afternoon the 14th. A clean 4ft swell from the WNW, but with a short 5 second period, it’ll be weak and disorganised. The offshore wind (NW at 12 mph) will put a nice face on it, but the wave energy is low (192) – don’t expect any power. It’s a pass for the desperate.
The best bet of the early run is Wednesday 15 July afternoon. You get a clean 5ft WNW swell with a cross-offshore NW wind at 12 mph. The period is still short at 6 seconds, so it’ll be bumpy, but the combined energy climbs to 292 (moderate). It’s marginal, but for this quiet stretch, it’s your best shot at a wave that holds up. Only for seasoned surfers – over 5ft with short period is not beginner friendly.
Thursday 16 July morning offers some hope: a 4ft WNW swell with a 9 second period, and a combined energy of 366 – the best energy reading in the first week. Winds are light cross-onshore (SW 6 mph), so expect a bit of ripple on the face. Still marginal, but probably the most rideable morning of that week.
Then it goes quiet until Saturday 18 July afternoon. The swell shifts to a 3ft SSE with a long 17 second period, and the combined energy jumps to 700 – the biggest number of the whole forecast. But here’s the rub: the swell is from the SSE, and Beavers likes it from the W. Total mismatch. The light cross-onshore (WSW 6 mph) adds a bit of texture. It’s a tease.
Sunday 19 July morning keeps the SSE theme, 3ft at 14 seconds, with 554 energy. Again, the wrong angle. You might find a wrap, but it’s a long way from optimal.
The second week has a bit more size, but the quality is still patchy. The standout is Saturday 25 July afternoon: a 6ft WNW swell at 6 seconds, with 555 energy. That’s a solid push of close-interval waves, but with an onshore wind (SW 6 mph), expect lumpy, choppy faces. Only for experts – over 5ft and onshore is not a party.
If I had to pick one window to paddle, it’s the Wednesday 15 July afternoon session. Clean 5ft WNW swell with a cross-offshore wind. Sure, the short period makes it sectiony, but the wind will tidy it up. It’s not epic, but it’s the most user-friendly option in a generally flat and funky outlook.
Otherwise, you’re waiting for the second half of the month, which brings more energy but often from the wrong direction. The first 8 days are basically a bust.
That’s the story from here. Keep your expectations low, check the wind, and if you hit the 15th, you’ll at least be out there.
Rusty.
