The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Beavers has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, it’s a slow start. For the first several days, from Friday the 21st all the way through Monday the 24th, we’re looking at poor surf. The waves are tiny, mostly around 1ft, and the winds are a mix of cross-on and onshore. It’s frustrating, but that’s how it goes sometimes. We’re not getting any proper surf until Tuesday the 25th afternoon, where things start to look a little more interesting.
So, the best of what we’ve got is going to be found later in the period. The real standout looks to be on Wednesday the 26th. Wednesday morning is showing cross-offshore winds, but the afternoon is the one to watch. We’ve got a 3ft swell coming from the S, with a period of 14 seconds. That's a decent groundswell, and it’s pushing some solid energy (743) into the beach and reef setup. With light cross-shore winds, it should be clean. This is shaping up to be the pick of the week. Keep in mind, Beavers is a beginner spot, so 3ft is still manageable for most.
The other date to circle is Monday the 31st of August. The swell is a bit bigger, hitting 7ft from the WNW, but the period is short at only 6 seconds. This is a windswell, and at that size it starts to get a bit much for beginners. With cross-offshore winds from the NW and clean conditions, this one is for the more experienced crew. The energy is solid (452), but expect it to be a bit lumpy and less organized.
Heading into September, there’s a bit of a lull again, but we get another chance on the 4th and 5th. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the SSE with a 14-second period. That’s some good energy coming through (815 on the Saturday morning), which is the strongest energy reading of the entire forecast. Light offshore winds on the Saturday morning should make for clean, fun waves. It’s a marginal call, but it’s the best option we have that far out.
Oh, and a quick note on the water for the first session on the 21st—it’s sitting at 68°F, which is nearly 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a nice surprise, you won’t need a thick suit.
In summary, we’ve got a slow first week, but a couple of decent windows late in the run. Wednesday the 26th afternoon is the pick of the first week, and the 31st August/Monday morning is for the experienced. The early September window on the 4th and 5th looks promising too, but as always with long-range forecasts, keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
