Table - best surf conditions forecast for Beavers over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for your local region.

Overall, the pattern is looking pretty quiet. We’ve got a couple of windows where the swell bumps up a little, but nothing is really screaming “go time.” There’s no surf to speak of until Tuesday the 7th of July, and even then it’s a bit of a slow start. The swell energy comes through in a couple of pulses, but the quality is held back by the conditions. Expect a few days with no real recommendations in the middle of the window.

Let’s start with Tuesday the 7th of July. The morning is clean enough with a light breeze but it’s cross-on, which isn’t doing us any favours. The wave height is only 3ft from the SSW with a very long period of 18 seconds – that’s proper groundswell, but the combined energy is moderate (450). The water is 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so the wetsuit choice might be a little thinner than usual. That afternoon, the wind switches to a cross-off, which cleans things up nicely, but the swell is still small. It’s a marginal call.

Wednesday the 8th of July stays small in the morning with similar 3ft SSW swell. The highlight here is Wednesday afternoon – the swell height bumps up to 6ft from the WNW, but the period drops to a short 6 seconds. That’s windswell, and while the combined energy is moderate (533), the short period means it’s going to be a bit choppy and won’t have much push. Still, the cross-off wind keeps it clean. This is probably the biggest surf of the early window, but it’s not exactly quality.

Thursday the 9th of July and Friday the 10th of July offer small, marginal waves with light winds, but nothing special. The swell height lingers around 3ft to 5ft from the WNW, and periods are a bit better at 9 seconds, but the combined energy drops off (545 down to 363). It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but it’s not worth getting too excited about.

Then we hit a dry spell. From Saturday the 11th of July right through to the middle of the following week, the swell drops way down – we’re looking at wave heights between 1ft and 2ft. The combined energy dips as low as 133 (weak). Conditions are often poor, with onshore winds and only a couple of glassy moments, like Sunday morning the 12th of July and Tuesday morning the 21st of July. These glassy windows might give you a clean little knee-high runner, but it’s tiny.

Now, the standout for the whole forecast? I’d have to point to Beavers for that Wednesday afternoon on the 8th of July. It’s the biggest swell of the whole run at 6ft from the WNW, and with a cross-off breeze the face is going to be clean. Sure, the period is short, so it won’t be the best shape, but for size and clean conditions it’s the best we’ve got. Just a heads up – this break sees crowds often, so you won’t be alone out there. It’s a beach-and-reef setup, fairly exposed to the swell, and the optimum direction is from the W, so the WNW swell is a reasonable match.

Beyond that, the second week is a real struggle. From the 11th of July through to the 22nd of July, the swell just doesn’t have any energy to speak of. The combined energy stays weak to low-moderate, and the wave heights barely crack 2ft. There’s a brief uptick on the 18th and 19th of July in combined energy (379 to 424), but that’s still small swell with SSW direction and light onshore winds. Not one to get stoked about.

One more thing: with the swell getting so small and the wind variable, any of the bigger, cleaner days we saw early on are the only real play. Otherwise, you’re better off leaving the board at home.

Rusty.
