Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bakio over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what Bakio's got cookin' for us over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with ya – the next few weeks are looking like a bit of a desert for decent waves. We've got a long stretch of small, weak, and wind-affected surf. The first real chance of anything even remotely worth paddling out for doesn't show up until Monday, July 27th, and even that's a tease.
Let's run through it. From now until the end of next week, it’s pretty much all small dribble. We're talking waves mostly under 2 ft, with periods so short they hardly have any push – mostly 4 to 6 seconds. The wind is a problem, too, almost always onshore or cross-onshore, messing up what little shape there is. The wave energy is practically non-existent, with combined energy readings barely cracking 50 (that's weak, weak juice). The water's warm – about 75°F which is 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so it's a real anomaly. But that's about the only nice thing I can say. There's a morning on Sunday, July 26th where it goes glassy, but with only 2 ft of weak WNW swell, you're just gonna be floating around. It's a pretty tough stretch.
Now, things finally start to show a pulse on Monday, July 27th. The morning brings a change. We get a northwest swell coming in at 2 ft, but check the period – 9 seconds. That's a longer-period groundswell, with the combined energy jumping up to 126 (moderate). The wind goes glassy. It’s a surfable wave, but ordinary conditions.
The real kicker comes that afternoon. The swell bumps up to 4 ft from the NW, with a 9-second period, and the energy jumps to 307 (strong). That's the best looking swell of the whole forecast. The problem? The wind switches onshore. It's game over for clean waves. Tuesday, July 28th is the biggest it gets – swell hits 6 ft from the NW with 465 energy, and by the afternoon it's 6 ft with a massive 619 (very strong). That's a lot of water moving, but it's all messy with a cross-onshore wind and a period of only 9 seconds. Too big for beginners, and with the onshore wind, it's really just for the experts who don't mind a choppy, bumpy battle. Honestly, that much juice with onshore wind makes this setup look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, the true standout? There isn't a proper one. The best on offer is the Monday morning session on July 27th. The glassy wind and that moderate, long-period groundswell energy could give you a clean little window at Bakio if you're quick. But it's just "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." The rest of the run is a write-off. Fingers crossed the forecasts change.
Rusty.
