Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the breaks around here.
First thing I gotta say, it's a tough stretch. Looking at the whole 16-day window, the surf just isn't cooperating. There's a long gap of nothing worthwhile from Thursday the 9th through to Saturday the 18th of July. The wave energy is weak, barely cracking 100 at best, and often sitting in the low double digits. It’s a real flat spell for the most part.
The only spot in the game is Bakio. It's an exposed beginner-friendly beach break, and it catches a bit of NW swell, but the consistency is poor. The water temp is about what you'd expect for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
For the first real suggestion, we're looking at Sunday morning the 12th of July. Bakio gets a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW (9 seconds). The wave energy is weak (65). The highlight here is a light cross-offshore breeze from the ESE, which should keep the surface clean. It's small and weak, but it's the only thing that's even surfable. Definitely not a standout, just a chance to get wet.
Moving into the second week, things don't improve. On Tuesday the 21st of July morning, the swell bumps up to 3ft from the NW, but the period is a short 6 seconds. The combined energy is still weak (85). The wind is a light cross-shore from the WNW, so it won't be a total mess, but it's not going to be magic. The afternoon of the same day sees a slight increase to 4ft (7 seconds) with moderate cross-on wind, which will chop it up. The energy finally climbs to a moderate 124, but the quality is poor.
Honestly, there's nothing here that screams "go." There's no big swell, no perfect wind, and no standout session. It's a lean period. If you're desperate, the cleanest, most surfable wave will be that small, glassy Sunday morning the 12th, but don't expect much.
Rusty.
