Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Listen, mate, Rusty here. I’ll give it to you straight: the surf outlook for this region over the next two weeks is pretty barren. We’ve got a few tiny clean moments, but overall you’re lookin’ at a tough stretch.
The story begins on Tuesday, 7 July, and there’s almost nothing goin’. Swell at a piddling 1 feet from the NW with short period – waves are small and messy, and the wind is cross to cross-on. The combined energy numbers are all down in the weak range (like 31, 30, 33), so it’s just flat, limp ocean. This gap with no real waves goes for several days straight.
Wednesday 8 July and Thursday 9 July bring more of the same – waves barely reaching 2 feet from the NW, wind often wrong. You’re not missing anything. The first time it gets rideable is Friday morning, 10 July. That’s your best shot: a 2 foot NW swell with glassy conditions – smooth as a mirror, no chop, super clean. Combined energy is 70 (still weak), but it’s the highlight of the fortnight. Saturday morning, 11 July backs it up – same 2 foot NW swell, offshore wind from the south keeping the face clean. Energy bumps to 106 (still weak to moderate) but the window is small.
Every other day is a write-off. Swell drops to a sad 0.7 feet or less, and winds become onshore or chop everything up. From the second week, it gets worse: waves at 1 to 3 feet but with no period, everything chopped, and hardly any energy (energy numbers 10 to 72). Bakio is the only break here, and it’s exposed, consistent, but mostly just crook conditions. The water temp is about average for the season – nothing wild.
So, if you’re keen, you want to be at Bakio on the morning of Friday, 10 July or Saturday, 11 July. Those are the only two sessions with clean conditions and a tiny wave. The rest of the time, you’re better off savin’ your energy. Fair dinkum, it’s a lean period.
Rusty.
