Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bakio over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again, but this time in feet and miles. Let's talk about Bakio.
I’ve looked over the next few weeks, and I’m telling you straight up, it’s a flat spell. There are no standout days, no sneaky waves to chase. The whole 16-day forecast is a long stretch of poor conditions.
We start looking at the first surf recommendation on Saturday, July 11th. The water is sitting at 74°, which is about 6° warmer than normal for this time of year. That's a massive heat spike, feeling more like a swimming pool. That’s very unusual.
From July 11th all the way to July 26th, everything is poor. That’s a full 16-day gap with no quality to speak of. The swell is tiny most days, often under 2 ft, and when it does get a little bit of size, the wind ruins it. The combined swell energy is mostly weak, under 100, and even when it hits a moderate 159 on the morning of July 22nd, the wind is onshore and the period is a short 7 seconds.
The wind direction is almost always cross, cross-on, or onshore, keeping the surface bumpy. There is a moment of glass on Tuesday July 14th, but the swell is a pathetic 1.0 ft with an energy of 23. That’s flat. A few mornings like July 12th and 26th show a clean cross-off wind, but the swell is still under 2 ft. You’re just floating.
Swelling from the NW and NNW is okay for this beach, but with periods bouncing between short 4 seconds and a middling 12 seconds, and heights not breaking 4 ft until July 22nd, there’s no power. That 4 ft on the 22nd is cross-on and short period, meaning it’s just choppy junk.
For a spot that’s usually consistent, this is an unusually long dry spell. It won’t stay this way forever, but right now, this setup looks way better for kite surfing than paddle surfing. I wouldn’t bother.
Rusty.
