Table - best surf conditions forecast for Noosa - Alexandria Bay over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Noosa's Alexandria Bay over the next couple of weeks.
We've got a bit of a slow start here, but there's some solid promise brewing for the long haul. The first week is pretty ordinary for a decent paddle, with only small, marginal waves and mostly cross or onshore winds making it tough to get excited. The water temp is sitting at 68.9°, which is a touch colder than usual for this time of year, so you'll want a decent spring suit.
The first real chance of a wave comes on Thursday, July 9, with a 6.6 ft swell from the SE at 11 seconds. The combined energy is strong (1208), but that southerly wind at 15.5 mph is blowing cross, making it a bit of a mess. It's not worth rushing out for. The next few days, from Friday through to the following Tuesday, just dribble along with heights dropping from 3.6 ft down to 1.0 ft. The winds are either light or onshore, and the energy is weak (as low as 20). It's a bit of a flat spell.
Then, we get a bit of a spike on Saturday, July 18, with a 5.9 ft SE swell arriving at 12 seconds, giving a combined energy of 930. The wind is cross-off, but the comments say "poor surf conditions" – likely due to the strong breeze and lumpy conditions. The following Sunday and Monday keep that 4.6 ft to 4.9 ft SE swell going, but the wind stays cross, and the energy drops a bit. It's still not the clean, fun surf you'd want to drive for.
Now, the real standout is the very end of the run. Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 23. That morning, we see a 6.9 ft SE swell (period 10 seconds) with a moderate offshore wind from the west at 15.5 mph. The combined energy is strong at 861. The forecast says "expect very good surf conditions." By the afternoon, it's even better, with the swell bumping up to 7.5 ft, energy rising to 1142, and the wind staying clean offshore from the WSW. That's a proper session, with clean, lined-up waves. The swell is getting up there, but it's still manageable for experienced intermediates.
Then Friday, July 24, is a big one, but it's for experts only. The morning brings a 9.8 ft ESE swell at 11 seconds, with glassy offshore wind. The combined energy is massive (2017), but the file warns it's predicted to be too big for this break. The afternoon drops to 8.2 ft, but the wind goes cross-on, so it's not as good. That Thursday, July 23, is your best bet.
Even at the end of the second week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 22 and 23, the swell stays small (1.3 ft to 2.0 ft) but with clean offshore winds. It's surfable, but nothing to get too excited about. The first week is a real dud, but the second week has a couple of promising windows.
Stay patient. The good stuff is coming.
