Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Noosa – Alexandria Bay.
The next couple weeks are pretty flat and frustrating, to be honest. We’ve got a big patch of nothing surfable for the first few days, and it’s not until the weekend of the 12th that we’ll finally see a window opening up. The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is about normal for this time of year.
From the 5th of July right through to the 11th, the conditions are blown-out and lumpy – mostly strong cross-onshore winds and messy, poor quality surf. On Monday the 8th, a long period 12 second swell does push in and combined wave energy climbs into the strong zone (1084 and 1543), but the wind is just too cross and raw, so it stays a marginal call. The sea state is cross-chop central. Not worth paddling out.
The first real sniff of a clean wave comes Sunday morning the 12th. The wind swings to light NW – cross-offshore – and we get a 12 second ground swell coming from the SE at 4 ft. Combined energy is moderate (380). It’s not big, but it’s clean and the long period should bring some nice shaped lines. This is the standout moment of the outlook; a glassy morning with a bit of structure. Keep your expectations small, but it’s a goer.
Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th fade fast as the swell drops to knee-high and the energy vanishes. Then Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th are barely a ripple – under 1 ft. If you’re desperate, the rock fishers might have more action.
Things look a lot more promising a week later, on Saturday the 18th. The morning brings 4 ft from the SE with an extra long 14 second period – classic groundswell that will wrap into Alex Bay nicely. The wind is cross-offshore from the WNW, light, and it’s clean. Combined wave energy is strong at 726, so there’s real welly behind these waves for a point/reef setup. This is the pick of the whole run: solid, well-shaped waves with clean faces. Sunday the 19th also holds up with clean conditions in the morning and a moderately tapered swell. By Monday 20th the wind goes offshore but the swell drops back to under 3 ft.
So overall: a lean start, a small but clean opportunity on the 12th, and the real best bet is that Saturday the 18th session – that’s your one to circle on the calendar. Stay keen.
