Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. We’ve got a pretty ordinary run ahead for the next 16 days at le Bec a Cheri. The whole forecast period kicks off from Wednesday, August 5th, and to be honest, it’s a tough watch. There’s not a single standout session in there - every single forecast window is a write-off.

### Overall Pattern

Right from the get-go, we’re looking at persistent cross-onshore winds. On Wednesday afternoon, August 5th, it’s clear skies but that wind is blowing E at 16 mph, making it choppy. The swell is small, around 4 ft from the east with a short, weak 6-second period. The combined energy is only 115 (moderate energy), so there’s no power behind it. The water is warm at 83°, which is about average for the time of year.

Thursday the 6th through to Sunday the 9th is more of the same. Swell heights creep up a little – around 4 ft to 5 ft – but the period stays short (6 to 8 seconds) and the wind stays locked in from the E or ESE at 16 to 19 mph. That cross-on wind never lets up, so the surface stays choppy or lumpy. The combined swell energy fluctuates between 147 and 235, which is moderate, but with no clean conditions, it doesn’t matter a bit. All these sessions are rated as “poor surf conditions” – zero out of ten.

### Mid Period

From Monday August 10th to Wednesday August 12th, the swell height ticks up to 6 ft to 6 ft, but the period is still poor (6 to 7 seconds). The wind is still cross-on from the E at 16 to 19 mph, so it’s still messy. The combined energy climbs to around 294 by the afternoon of August 12th, but again, the wind kills it.

### Late Period

Then things get bigger but not better. On Thursday August 13th and Friday August 14th, the swell pushes to 7 ft to 8 ft, with a period finally getting to 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to strong levels – 445 to 839. But the wind gets stronger too – E at 22 to 25 mph – creating “strong cross-onshore and messy” conditions. At 8 ft, this is getting into expert territory size-wise, but with that wind, it’s unrideable for anyone. If you’re looking for something to do, this setup is honestly more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing – the swell has some grunt, but the wind is straight onshore.

Saturday August 15th and Sunday August 16th hold steady at 8 ft to 8 ft from the east with 8 to 9-second periods. The combined energy hits between 810 and 975 – that’s strong wave energy. But the wind is still fresh and cross-on. No clean pockets.

Monday August 17th and Tuesday August 18th start to back off a little. Swells drop to 5 ft to 8 ft, but the wind is still cross-on from the ESE or E at 16 to 22 mph. Combined energy drops to 352 to 735. Still poor.

### Final Days

Wednesday August 19th through Thursday August 20th sees the swell drop right off to 3 ft to 4 ft, with short 8-second periods. The wind eases slightly to 12 to 16 mph from the east, but it’s still cross-on. The combined energy is back to weak-moderate (190 to 215). Still not a single window with clean conditions.

### The One Break to Mention

The only break in the whole area is le Bec a Cheri itself – a point break suited for beginners. It’s fairly consistent, but the problem here is that the optimum swell direction is from the NNE, and the forecast has the swell coming from the E or ENE every single day. That mismatch, plus the constant cross-onshore wind, means it’s a complete blank run from August 5th to August 20th. Not one recommendation.

That’s a long stretch with no surf. It happens sometimes in this area – the wind and swell angles just don’t line up. But forecasts can change, so don’t give up hope entirely. For now, leave the boards in the car and maybe grab a kite if you’ve got one.
