Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wavetraps over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Alright, let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are shaping up like for Wavetraps.
We’ve got a decent run of surf on the way, kicking off this Friday the 10th of July and rolling through with a few standout sessions. The water temp feels about average for this time of year, nothing too wild.
Friday the 10th is a beauty to start. Friday morning brings clean 4ft swell from the WSW with a gentle cross-off breeze, and that 16-second period is proper groundswell – it’s got some push (758). Friday afternoon turns glassy with 4ft, just perfect. Saturday the 11th is the pick of the early days: clean 4ft again from the WSW, but Saturday afternoon goes dead flat calm and glassy – that’s as good as it gets. That 16-second period is carrying some serious energy (768). Sunday the 12th still has clean 4ft in the morning but the afternoon gets a bit messy with a light crosswind.
Monday the 13th sees a shift. The swell swings around to a short-period 6ft NNW windswell, and with onshore winds, it’s not worth paddling out for. Tuesday the 14th morning cleans back up nicely – 5ft from the NNW and light offshore winds, a good window before it all gets bumpy again. That afternoon the swell builds to 6ft but the wind turns onshore.
Now, the standout moment. Saturday the 18th of July is the one to circle. Saturday morning delivers 8ft from the NNW (1750 combined energy) with clean conditions, and Saturday afternoon goes 8ft from the NNW (2375) with a gentle offshore breeze. That is excellent surf, but it’s solid – this is for experienced surfers only. Over 8ft is expert territory. Sunday the 19th morning is almost as good: 8ft from the north, still offshore, but the afternoon gets a little crossed up. The swell direction for these bigger days (NNW, N) matches the optimum WSW direction only loosely, so there might be a bit of an angle, but the quality is still high.
After that, the energy drops right off. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st have small, clean waves in the 3ft to 2ft range, fine for a cruise. From Wednesday the 22nd onwards, it gets very small – 3ft and then down to 2ft by Thursday the 23rd, with combined energy below 100 at times. There’s a gap of a few days of barely surfable conditions through the 23rd and into the 24th, but things perk up a little again on the 25th with some 3ft groundswell.
Overall, the best on offer is Saturday the 11th for clean, glassy, intermediate-friendly waves, and Saturday the 18th for the bigger, punchier, expert-level swell. The rest is a mixed bag of quality windows and flat spells.
Keep an eye on it – those longer-range calls for the 18th are promising but a little less certain.
Rusty.
