The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: this 16-day stretch for Urirama is about as quiet as it gets. We've drawn the short straw. There are no good surf options on the table right now, and the outlook is a long, flat run. The first few days of the period – starting Monday the 17th of August – offer tiny, weak junk. Swell heights barely scrape 0.7 ft with a combined energy of just 11 (11), coming from the NNE with a period around 10-11 seconds. That groundswell period suggests a little shape in the water, but it's getting smashed by a stiff cross-onshore breeze from the E at 22 mph. The water temp is sitting at 82.4°, which is pretty average for the time of year here, but that's small consolation when you're looking at a flat, bumpy ocean.
For the next week and a half, from the 19th of August right through to the 28th of August, we have a massive dead zone. Combined energy values are zero. There's literally no swell showing up. A persistent, strong cross-onshore wind from the E and ENE at 19-28 mph just churns the surface into a messy lump. This is a classic example of why this area can go blank for a stretch; it's not unusual to have these quiet runs. The water is too messy and weak for a proper paddle, and with that constant wind and no real swell, this setup honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than for a paddle surfer.
Finally, on the 29th of August, we see a slight flicker of life. Saturday afternoon offers the high point of the entire forecast: a 1.0 ft swell from the NNE at a short period of 9 seconds (combined energy of 15 (15)). But don't get excited – that tiny bump is still under a fresh cross-onshore breeze at 22 mph from the ENE. It's poor surf conditions and always will be at this size and wind direction. That tiny bump fades again through the 30th and 31st before we drop back to zero at the start of September. There are no standouts here, no hidden gems. It's a full skip. A blank run like this is typical for the area when the winds set in. Forecasts can change, but for now, give the board a well-deserved rest.
