Marina Grande Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a proper surf. This isn't one of those times where you gotta be choosy – it's a time where you gotta be patient. The energy is there, but the quality is just not. We're looking at a whole lot of cross-shore wind and short-period windswell, which is a recipe for chop and closeouts, not the clean lines we're after.

For the first week and a half, through around the 15th, it's a write-off. We've got swell, sure, bumping around 3.5ft to 5.5ft, with the energy jumping around from 88 up to 447 (moderate to strong), but the period is stuck at a junky 6 to 8 seconds. That's just wonky, short-period stuff. The wind is coming out of the ENE/E, but it's cross-shore the whole time, so it's just chewing up whatever surface there is. There are a few pockets where the energy peaks, like Friday the 7th with 5ft to 5.5ft surf and energy hitting 258, or the 14th and 15th when the swell pushes up to 6.5ft and energy gets into the 400s (moderate wave energy), but the wind is still cross, and that's going to make it a mess. It'll be lumpy, bumpy, and not much fun. You'd be better off finding a different hobby for the day. The setup at Marina Grande (Italy) looks way more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer with that cross-shore breeze and junky swell.

The first morning that even comes close to being worth a look is the 17th of August. The energy drops to 302 (moderate wave energy) and the model is calling it "marginal" instead of "poor." Swell is still 5ft with an 8-second period, but at least it's a glimmer of hope. The wind is still light cross-shore, so it's not going to be perfect, but it's the first sign of life. The swell direction is ENE, which is okay for this spot, but not the ideal NE.

After that, we're back into the junky stuff through the 19th. The energy stays moderate, bouncing between 143 and 208, but the period drops back down and the wind stays cross. It's more of the same.

So, here's the long and short of it. There's no standout wave in this entire 16-day window. The only thing close to a "best on offer" is that morning of the 17th, and even then, it's a stretch. It's a case of if you're desperate, you might get a few grovelly ones before it gets messy. Everything else is a pass. The water temp is around 82.2°F, which is about normal for this time of year, so you won't need a hood, just a lot of patience. Don't hold your breath, and check back in a few days – forecasts can change, but this one looks stubborn. Stay frosty.
