Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tippers over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat run for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead, but there’s a real gap of quiet days at the start. The first surf that’s even worth a mention doesn’t show up until Monday the 13th, and even then it’s a marginal call. Before that, from Friday the 10th right through Sunday the 12th, it’s mostly poor surf conditions with small, messy swell and cross-onshore winds. You’d be battling chop for not much reward.
The only spot in the mix is Tippers. It’s a reef break, exposed to the SW, and it’s very consistent, which is a small blessing. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Monday 13th (July) – Things start to look a little less grim. The morning has a 3ft swell from the SSW, period 13 seconds, with light onshore winds. The combined wave energy is weak (338). It’s still marginal, but you might find a few if you’re desperate. The afternoon sees a shift to a 2ft swell from the S, but the wind goes onshore and the energy drops (395). Still not great.
Tuesday 14th to Friday 17th – The swell drops off further, with heights around 1ft to 2ft. The period gets long (18 seconds) on the 14th, which is a groundswell, but the energy is weak (326) and the wind is cross-onshore. Not really worth paddling out for. The surf quality stays poor.
Saturday 18th (July) – Now we’re talking. The morning shows a 3ft swell from the SW, period 18 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 672 – that’s moderate energy. The wind is light and onshore, so it’s clean. It’s still marginal, but the afternoon sees rain showers and a 3ft swell with energy hitting 694. This is the best window in the whole forecast. The wind stays light onshore, and the long period from the SW means the reef at Tippers should line up nicely. Keep in mind though, crowds are possible here.
Sunday 19th (July) – The morning has a 4ft swell from the S, period 12 seconds, with 954 energy. That’s solid moderate energy. The wind is onshore from the W, so it’s clean. Definitely the standout morning. The afternoon drops to 3ft but the period stretches to 17 seconds, with 858 energy. Still clean. This is your best bet for the whole period.
Monday 20th to Saturday 25th – The energy drops back down. The 20th and 21st see some marginal conditions with 3ft to 4ft swell from the SSW, periods around 15-16 seconds, but the energy is moderate to weak (464-617). The wind stays light onshore, so it’s clean, but the waves are small. From the 22nd onwards, it fades into poor conditions again. The 25th sees a 4ft swell from the W, but the period is a short 8 seconds, and the energy is only 412. Not the best.
The standout – If you’re going to pick a time, make it Saturday 18th (July) afternoon or Sunday 19th (July) morning. The 18th afternoon has the best energy (694) with a long period, and the 19th morning has the biggest swell (4ft) with the highest energy (954). Both are clean with light onshore winds. Tippers will be your go-to, but be aware of possible crowds.
Alright, that’s the long and short of it. Keep your eyes on the 18th and 19th. The rest is a bit of a washout.
Rusty.
