The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this stretch is a tough one. The Boardwalk is the only spot on the cards, and for the next 16 days, it’s looking like a long, dry spell of poor surf. The water temp is sitting at 83°F, which is about average for this time of year, so at least you won't freeze while you're waiting for a wave.

Right now, on Monday, August 3rd, we’ve got a tiny 3 ft swell from the ESE, but it’s messy with a risk of thunderstorms and onshore wind. The energy is weak (110), and the period is a short 8 seconds. This is not the day. Tuesday through to Monday the 17th is a real grind – waves barely tickling 0.7 ft to 2 ft, mostly onshore or cross-onshore breezes, and conditions are consistently described as "poor". The combined energy is mostly in the teens or twenties, which is just dead. There’s a little bump on Friday the 7th afternoon with 4 ft from the east, but it’s cross-on with a 7-second period and a moderate energy (277) – still no good, just bigger and choppier.

The first and only glimmer in this whole outlook comes right at the very end, on Tuesday, August 18th, in the morning. The Boardwalk picks up a 2 ft swell from the ENE with a clean, cross-off wind from the SSW. The light breeze will keep it clean, and the wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions". It’s the best of a bad bunch, but it’s still tiny. That’s your only real chance to get wet, and even then, you’ll be fighting for a dribbler.

The bottom line? This is a 16-day dud. Don't hold your breath. Forecasts change, but for now, leave the board in the shed.

Rusty.
