Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tarcoola (Chanteez) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's break this down. Rusty again.
First off, we're at Tarcoola (Chanteez). Water temp is 69°F, a bit below average for this time of year – you'll want a decent wetsuit.
Looking at the next 16 days, it's a real rollercoaster. Saturday the 11th is a total washout. Sunday the 12th, a big SW groundswell arrives – wave height hits 7ft with a 17-second period. Combined swell energy is 2535 (moderate to strong). That's a lot of power. Wind is cross-off from the ESE, so it'll be clean, but at 7ft and 3ft over the next days, this is only for experts.
Monday the 13th morning stays clean with 8ft at 18 seconds – that same story: expert-only, huge, powerful lines.
The real standout is Tuesday the 14th afternoon. Swell drops to 6ft from the SW with a 15-second period. Combined energy is 1421, a solid moderate amount. Light east breeze at 6 mph, cross-off – that's clean, manageable conditions for experienced surfers. This is the first real window where size and wind play nice.
Wednesday the 15th through the 16th are messy – lumpy, cross-shore wind, not worth paddling out.
Friday the 17th gets ugly: rain, fresh cross-onshore wind at 22 mph. Combined energy reads 1248, but it's sloppy. Saturday the 18th delivers a monster pulse – 13ft at 18 seconds, combined energy 18103 – that's extremely strong. Cross-onshore wind, and just too big for Tarcoola. I'd call that a kite surfer's day, not a paddle surfer's.
The next good window is Sunday the 19th morning: 8ft SW at 16 seconds, clean from a east cross-off wind. It’s still big, expert territory. By afternoon, the swell drops to 8ft, wind goes SE at 9 mph, still clean. That afternoon session on the 19th is a good one for the brave.
From Monday the 20th, the swell settles to around 5ft to 5ft. There's a gap of several days with no strong picks until Wednesday the 22nd morning: 5ft SW at 14 seconds, combined energy 850 (on the lower side), and a light offshore east wind at 6 mph. That is glassy, clean, and a solid session.
After that, Friday the 24th brings another big pulse – 8ft at 16 seconds, but with a light cross-onshore wind. Too big again for comfort.
The final hint of decent surf comes Sunday the 26th morning: 5ft at 15 seconds with a light ESE cross-off. Combined energy 949, clean conditions. A mellow, nice way to end the period.
Best on offer: Tuesday the 14th afternoon, without a doubt. Second pick: Wednesday the 22nd morning for cleaner, smaller waves.
Crowds can be an issue at Tarcoola when it's firing, so get out there early.
Rusty.
