Right, Rusty here again. Let's break it down in feet and all.

We've got a solid run of swell coming, mostly from the southwest, which is just what this break loves. The water's at 68°F, so a bit chillier than usual for the season. The first few days are looking promising if you play it smart. The swell energy is pumping, with Saturday morning showing up at 1368 – that's moderate to strong, building from there.

Saturday the 4th morning is a bit of a bust at Tarcoola with 5ft SW swell and a moderate cross-off breeze. But the afternoon cleans right up when the wind drops, and the swell jumps to 6ft from the southwest with a very long 16-second period. This is proper groundswell (1949 energy) and the conditions are clean. This is a standout for experienced surfers only – that's a powerful wave.

Sunday the 5th is messy with cross-shore winds and smaller, weaker swell. Not worth the effort.

Now, Monday the 6th is your absolute standout. The morning at Tarcoola is glassy. Glassy! With a 6ft SW groundswell on a 15-second period. That's clean, powerful, and the energy is 1472. This is the best of the bunch. The afternoon gets a bit bigger at 7ft from the SW, but the wind turns cross-shore and it starts to get bumpy. The swell is also getting too big for this spot for some. The morning is the call.

Tuesday the 7th sees swell pumping up to 8ft in the morning with a very long 16-second period. This is expert-only territory. The energy is massive at 3090. The wind is clean and cross-off, but the size will wash most people out. It's a show.

Wednesday the 8th brings the glass back in the morning with a 6ft SW swell, 15-second period, and a clean surface (1420 energy). Another excellent session. The afternoon sees the wind switch onshore, so get it in the morning.

Thursday the 9th has a clean 7ft WSW swell in the morning with a nice 14-second period, but the afternoon turns to rain and a strong cross-onshore wind. The quality goes south fast. From Friday the 10th into the weekend, the pattern gets messy with moderate to fresh winds and dropping swell, though Saturday the 11th sees another pulse of 7ft swell, but the wind is up at 19 mph, making it less appealing for a paddle.

The second week looks more inconsistent. There's a window on Monday the 13th with a 5ft SW swell and a 17-second period in the morning – that's an ultra-long period groundswell, great for a reef or point, but at Tarcoola it might be a bit too straight. The wind is offshore though. Tuesday the 14th afternoon has some gentle offshore breeze and a smaller 4ft swell, good for a cruise.

There's a big gap of a few days with nothing special until Saturday the 18th, which brings a 7ft W swell but only 8-second period. That's short-period windswell, and it'll be lumpy. The best of the second week is likely Sunday the 19th morning with a 6ft WSW swell on an 11-second period, clean cross-off winds, and moderate energy. It's promising, but that far out, keep your expectations in check.

Tarcoola (Chanteez) is an exposed break and it can get crowded sometimes. That long period swell on Monday the 13th will be something to see, but for the best waves, be in the water early on Monday the 6th.

Rusty.
