Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tarcoola (Chanteez) over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's look at what's coming up for the local region.
We're looking at a solid run of Southern Ocean groundswell for Tarcoola (Chanteez), but don't get too excited just yet. The first few days are a classic case of too much of a good thing. We've got a massive 7ft to 8ft SW swell pouring in with a long period of 16 to 18 seconds, and the wave energy is insane, hitting 4113 on Monday morning. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you'll want a decent spring suit.
The standout window is undeniably Tuesday the 14th. The swell drops to a much more manageable 7ft in the morning, still with a powerful 15-second period, and the wind swings offshore from the NE at 16 mph. The wave energy is still a strong 1715 (moderate to strong), but for an advanced surfer, this is going to be clean and powerful. The call is "excellent surf for experienced surfers" and that's no exaggeration. It stays good into the Tuesday afternoon, with the swell easing to 6ft and a lighter 9 mph offshore breeze from the ENE. The water temp anomaly is a bit colder than normal, but the conditions will be worth it.
After that, the quality drops off. Wednesday the 15th sees the swell backing off to 5ft, but the wind goes cross-off and then cross-on, and the scores drop right off. Thursday the 16th is messy, and by Friday the 17th, we’ve got a fresh cross-onshore wind and a risk of thunderstorms.
Now, hold on to your board. The weekend of the 18th and 19th gets absolutely blown out by a massive new pulse. Saturday morning sees a 10ft SW swell with a 15-second period, but it's onshore and the wave energy is a staggering 4032. Saturday afternoon gets even bigger, with a 13ft SW swell at 17 seconds and an energy reading of 15129. That's a very strong, dangerous wave. This is no longer a paddle surf situation; with that kind of size and onshore wind, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The following week is a write-off, with consistently poor conditions and strong wind until the next Wednesday.
There's a glimmer of hope later on. Wednesday the 22nd afternoon has a clean 5ft SW swell, but it's a long way off. Then we see another big swell event on the 23rd and 24th, but again, it's mostly too big and mostly onshore. The real potential for a quiet, clean session comes later on Saturday the 25th morning, with a 6ft SW swell and a light offshore breeze from the SE, which is rated excellent for experienced surfers. And then Sunday the 26th morning looks clean and small, but the swell is only 3ft.
The real highlight is locked in for Tuesday the 14th. That's the day to burn a sickie.
Rusty.
