Alright, Rusty here, let’s have a yarn about the next few weeks at Tarcoola (Chanteez).

Alright mate, the swell forecast for Tarcoola is on and off over the next couple of weeks, but there are a few windows where it’ll really turn it on. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.

We kick off on Tuesday, July 7th with a big, powerful SW groundswell. It’s a proper thumper at 8ft with a 16-second period, packing some serious energy (3090). The wind is a light cross-offshore in the morning, so the waves will be clean and lined up. This is expert territory only, though. It’s just too solid for anyone who isn’t charging. By the afternoon, that S wind picks up and blows across it, making things a bit messy.

Wednesday, July 8th sees the swell drop a touch to 6ft in the morning with a 15-second period. The wind is a nice cross-off from the NE, keeping it clean. It’s a more manageable size, but the forecast says the tide might mess with it a bit. The afternoon brings a cross-on wind, which chops it up.

Thursday, July 9th is pretty average. A 7ft swell in the morning with a light cross wind that leaves some ripples. The energy is still moderate (1956), but it’s not clean. The afternoon is similar but weaker.

Friday, July 10th is where it gets interesting. The morning sees a cleaner 5ft SW swell with a 12-second period. The wind is cross-off, so the faces will be nice and smooth. The energy is still decent (567). This is a really good session for the experienced lads. The afternoon gets windy and choppy again.

Saturday, July 11th drops right off – only 3ft in the morning. Even though it’s clean, it’s just not enough to get excited about.

The standout is Sunday, July 12th. Get this: a 5ft SW swell, 13-second period, and glassy conditions in the morning with the wind barely a whisper. The energy is solid (1090). This will be beautiful, clean surf. It’s pushing the limit for beginners at 5ft, but for everyone else, it’s a gem. The crowd factor is there – it’s a spot that can get people on it, so get there early for the clean-up sets.

Monday, July 13th is another one for the experienced crew only. Another big groundswell comes through, 8ft from the SW with a very long 18-second period and massive energy (4113). Glassy in the morning. This is powerful, heaving wall stuff – not for the faint-hearted. The long period will make it bend and stand up, which is epic for this kind of break, but at that size, it’s a serious animal.

The rest of the week into the next week is a bit of a mixed bag. Tuesday, July 14th afternoon looks clean and glassy on a 6ft swell (1196) – a good option if you’re around. Wednesday the 15th is similar but with a cross-off breeze.

The second week is a bit of a wait-and-see. Thursday the 16th is poor with strong winds. Friday the 17th brings another very solid, big swell pulse (8ft) which is too big for the spot again despite a clean offshore wind. Saturday the 18th is still too big for general surfing.

Then we get a good run toward the end. Sunday, July 19th morning is clean with a 5ft SW swell and a genuine offshore wind from the ENE. This will be really good, well-shaped waves. Monday, July 20th morning also fires with a 5ft long-period swell (16 seconds) and offshore wind. The energy is strong (1170). This is a cracking option for a session.

Overall, the best bet is the glassy Sunday the 12th, with the offshore Sunday the 19th being a close second. Keep an eye on that second week, it looks promising.

Rusty.
