Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tarcoola (Chanteez) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up at Tarcoola (Chanteez). We’ve got a solid period ahead, but you’ll need to pick your windows carefully. The water’s sitting at 68°, which is a fair bit colder than usual for this time of year – a good 2° off, so you’ll want that 4/3. The main event is a big, consistent SW groundswell that’s going to hammer the coast, and because this break is exposed, it’s going to cop the full force. For you advanced guys, there’s some epic sessions on the table, but the newbies should stay well clear for most of it.
It kicks off on Wednesday the 8th with a solid 7ft SW groundswell, period a long 17 seconds, but the wind is a cross-on from the SSW. The wave energy is real meaty (2719), but that wind angle will mess with the face. It’s juicy but a bit messy.
Thursday morning the 9th is where it gets proper. We’ve got a 7ft WSW swell, still a long period of 16 seconds, and the wind swings to a light NNE cross-off. That’s clean, powerful, and that energy is still huge (1956). This is an excellent window for experienced surfers. The afternoon gets blown out with onshore wind and drops off.
Friday the 10th drops back to 5ft and 4ft, with cross-on wind. Marginal stuff, not worth the paddle.
Saturday the 11th is small and weak – 3ft with a period of 12 seconds and energy under 400. Poor conditions. Give it a miss.
Now, Sunday morning the 12th is another standout. A 6ft SW groundswell, long period of 17 seconds, and a light ESE cross-off. The combined energy is absolutely thumping at 3518, and it will be clean. This is an expert-level session for sure. The afternoon gets chopped up by a 12 mph south wind.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th see the swell pumping again – 8ft and 7ft with that long-period SW energy. Monday has clean cross-off winds in the morning but the swell is definitely in the “big for beginners” territory. Tuesday morning has clean offshore wind from the east, making for some epic, heaving lines.
We get a bit of a lull mid-week, but Thursday the 16th afternoon is a real gem. A 6ft SW swell with a 15-second period, and the wind drops to absolutely glassy. That’s rare, and the energy is still solid (1347). Magic hour stuff.
The following week looks chunky. Friday the 17th drops off, and then from Saturday the 18th right through Monday the 20th, we’re looking at a proper swell event. We’re talking 8ft to a massive 13ft SW swell, with the combined energy hitting crazy numbers – up to 13448 on Monday morning. Raw power, but the wind is onshore or howling for a lot of it. The Sunday the 19th afternoon and Monday the 20th morning look like the best of that big, wild period with cross-off wind, but that’s strictly for experts on big boards. Kite surfers will be frothing. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd are still solid at 8ft and 5ft but the quality drops off again. The very last morning on Thursday the 23rd brings a clean 8ft swell with a moderate offshore breeze – it’s big and powerful, but clean. A fitting end to a powerful run.
Overall, the absolute pick of the lot is Thursday morning the 9th for that clean, powerful start, and Thursday afternoon the 16th for the glassy session.
Rusty, signing off.
