The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. Over the next few days, Tarcoola (Chanteez) is gonna see a lot of solid, powerful SW groundswell, but honestly, it’s a game of picking the right windows. The wind and tide look good a few times, but the swell is often too big for this spot.
The water is sitting at 66°, which is a touch cooler than usual for this time of year. Not dramatic, but you’ll notice it.
We’ve got a big pulse of energy coming through, with combined swell energy readings hitting the thousands, which is strong to very strong. The first real standout is Saturday morning, August 22. That morning, the swell drops to a more manageable 6 ft from the SW, still plenty of power, but the wind is light and cross-off, out of the north at just 3 mph. It’ll be clean. That’s your best early window, and it’s aimed at experienced surfers.
After that, things get messy. Sunday and Monday mornings have some clean windows, but the wind is stronger. The real prize might be Tuesday morning, August 25, when we get a super light, glassy morning with a 4 ft SW swell. The energy is lower (473), but it’ll be clean and user-friendly. That’s a nice session.
Then comes Wednesday, August 26, with a very long-period SW groundswell (18 seconds) and a big energy spike (2670). The swell is 7 ft and the wind is offshore, light WSW. That’s a serious, powerful swell, and it’s too big for most. Expert surfers only, and it’s best at a point or reef. The period is very long, so expect long lulls between sets.
The following Saturday, August 30 morning, looks promising again: 7 ft SW swell, clean cross-off wind, and excellent conditions for experienced surfers. That’s another one to circle on the calendar.
Overall, the standout is Saturday morning, August 22, and Tuesday morning, August 25. If you’re an expert, Wednesday morning, August 26, and Saturday morning, August 30, are also worth the paddle.
