The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Sunset.

Straight up, this is a tough stretch. The next couple of weeks are lookin' pretty bleak for a paddle. We’ve got a massive spike of swell comin', but it’s tied to some proper nasty weather, and then it drops off into a long, flat spell. It’s a real test of patience.

The first few days are a write-off. Thursday the 6th is a mess – huge, wind-whipped junk. Not worth gettin' wet.

Friday the 7th is the only real standout, but it's a serious one. We’re talkin' a massive 18ft groundswell from the ENE/N direction, with a very long period of 16 seconds. The energy is insane (32,611 on the mornin'). The wind is howlin' from the NNW, but it's cross-offshore, so the face will be clean. However, this is for experts only. Anywhere over 8ft is big boy territory, and this is way beyond that. It’s a raw, heavy reef break with a serious pulse. The crowds are likely to be there, but they'll be the ones who know what they're doin'.

After that blast, it all falls apart. The wind goes ballistic on Saturday the 8th with hurricane-force conditions, and then the swell just vanishes. From Sunday the 9th all the way through to the 21st, we're lookin' at barely a ripple. There's the occasional knee-high bump, but with onshore or cross-shore breezes, it's not gonna be anything you'd want to drive for. A few days around the 14th and 18th show a tiny pulse, but the conditions are ordinary at best.

The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothin' wild to report there.

So, bottom line: if you’re a charger with a death wish and a big board, Friday the 7th is your day. For everyone else, it's a blank run of nearly two weeks. It’s a quiet spot for a reason, and this forecast shows it. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s lookin' grim.

Rusty.
