The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Socoa. It’s a quiet stretch, no two ways about it. For the next week and a half, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing. The surf is small and poor, and there’s barely any energy in the water.
We’re starting off flat on the 19th and 20th, with waves only around 0.3ft to 2ft. There’s a glassy morning on the 20th, but there’s just nothing to surf. Even when a little bump shows on the 21st, it’s short-period and messy with rain showers, so it’s not worth a paddle. The energy is weak, only hitting around 170 on Friday morning. That’s about as good as it gets, and it’s not good.
From there, it’s a long grind of small, weak, and poor surf through the weekend and into the next week. Waves stay in the 2ft to 3ft range. There’s a moment on the morning of the 1st of September with offshore wind, but the swell is only around 3ft and weak. Not enough to get the heart racing.
The one real chance comes on the morning of Wednesday, the 2nd of September. It’s glassy, and the swell bumps up to a modest 3ft from the WNW. The combined energy finally climbs a little to 90. It’s the only time the report calls it "surfable," but even then, it’s just ordinary. For a spot like this that’s often inconsistent, this flat run is pretty normal. Things can change, though, so keep your eyes on it.
But for now, it’s a slow one.
