San Antonio Del Mar Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s cut through the noise and have a look at what’s on the table for San Antonio Del Mar (Mexico) over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, I’m feeling a bit gutted for you. Right now and for the foreseeable future, the surf is just not playing ball. The overall pattern is stubbornly poor, with hardly a window of clean, rideable waves in sight. The first real chance of anything half-decent doesn’t roll around until Wednesday, August 12th, and even then, it’s marginal.

We’re looking at a long stretch of small, messy swell running from the SSW and SW, with persistent cross-onshore winds messing up the surface. The water’s running warm – about 73°F, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick wetsuit, but that’s about the only good news.

Wednesday, August 12th morning offers the first glimmer. We’ve got a small 2ft SSW swell with a period of 17 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, which has the potential to wrap in and offer some shape, but the energy is weak (332). The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’ll be rippled but not totally blown out. It’s a marginal call, but it’s the only thing on the menu. Later that week, Thursday, August 13th morning and afternoon also get a “marginal” tag with 2ft to 3ft SW swell, but again, the wind is onshore, killing the quality.

We get a bit of a swell bump around the weekend of August 15th and 16th, with the swell height pushing up to 4ft on Saturday the 15th afternoon. The energy picks up into the moderate-to-strong range (802), and the period is a solid 16 seconds. But the trade-off is a stronger cross-offshore wind from the NW at 9 mph, which will make it choppy and bumpy. It’s not a total washout, but you’ll be battling the texture.

The best of a bad bunch is probably the Wednesday, August 19th morning. We’ve got 3ft SSW swell from a 15-second period, and the wind is light and cross-onshore from the SW at 6 mph. The energy is moderate (476). It’s still not glassy, but it’s the least offensive option. The crowd here is possible, and the break is consistently exposed to the SSW swell, but the quality is just not there.

For the rest of the run into the second week, it’s more of the same: small, inconsistent, onshore slop. The energy is weak, often dipping below 300. Honestly, there’s no standout here. If you’re desperate for a paddle, wait for the lightest wind days, but don’t expect much. This is a kite surfer’s kind of setup right now, not a surfer’s.

Keep your eyes on the forecasts, but for now, I’d be finding something else to do.
