Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for Reve Havn. I gotta be straight with you – this stretch of the next 16 days is a tough one. The overall pattern shows periods where the swell kicks up, but the wind is just about always in the wrong direction. We’re looking at a lot of cross-onshore breeze, which is going to mess up the face of the wave. There are a few flickers of hope way down the line, but for the most part, you’re going to be waiting.
We start off Monday, July 6th, with nothing doing. Tiny 2ft swell from the west and a light cross-onshore wind. Combined energy is a measly 68, and the wave comment tells the story: poor surf conditions. Not worth paddling out.
Tuesday, July 7th, the swell bumps up a bit, with a 6ft wave from the NW on Tuesday afternoon, but it’s coupled with a strong 25 mph cross-onshore wind. The combined energy hits a moderate 406, but with that wind, the surface will be a total mess. Wednesday the 8th through to the 11th of July is a similar story – we’ve got some waist to chest high swell, but it’s constantly chopped up by moderate to fresh cross-onshore winds. The period is short, mostly 6-8 seconds, so this is windswell, not groundswell. Combined energy stays in the weak to moderate range (34 to 213). It’s not a good look.
We hit Sunday, July 12th, and it’s more of the same. A 6ft swell from the NW in the afternoon, but again, strong cross-onshore wind at 25 mph. The energy is moderate at 299, but the quality is poor.
Now, after a solid week of poor conditions, we see a change in the wind around the 18th of July. The weekend of Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th actually brings the biggest swell of the whole window. Saturday morning starts with a 5ft NW swell, climbing to 7ft NW by the afternoon, with light cross-onshore wind. The combined energy jumps to a strong 532 that afternoon. For the advanced surfers, this is the standout, but heads up – at over 5ft this is getting too big for beginners, and by 7ft it’s a bit of a handful for everyone. The wind isn’t perfect, but it’s light, so the waves will have some shape. Sunday the 19th pushes even bigger, with a 8ft NW swell in the morning and energy at 589, but the wind switches back to a moderate cross-onshore, making it less inviting.
Then, on Monday, July 20th, we finally get a moment of glass. The wind is calm, 0 mph. The swell is a clean 5ft from the WNW with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 117. This is the one. For that morning, the waves will be clean and rideable. It’s not a pumping groundswell, but "glassy" is the magic word in this forecast. After that, a north-northwest breeze picks up again for the rest of the day and into the following days.
So, the best on offer? It’s narrow, but the standout is Monday, July 20th morning at Reve Havn for that glassy window. The swell is 5ft from the WNW. It’s the only true clean period in the whole run. If you can only pick one day, that’s it. The very end of the window, July 21st, sees the swell drop off again, with light winds, but the energy is weak.
For the advanced guys, Saturday the 18th has the power, but the wind is a compromise. Honestly, with all that cross-onshore wind and the beach and reef set-up, the conditions from the 6th through the 17th look way more interesting for kite surfing than for a paddle surfer.
It’s a rough run, but that Monday the 20th is a brief, clean reward.
Rusty.
