The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: this 16-day stretch for Reve Havn is a tough one. I've looked over the whole run and honestly, the surf is pretty average to poor for the vast majority of it, with a lot of cross-onshore wind messing things up. It's not a total write-off, but you're gonna have to pick your moment very carefully.
The first real chance for a paddle comes on Tuesday, 28th July. The morning is actually looking glassy – a 3 mph offshore easterly wind – and we've got a small 4 ft swell rolling in from the west with moderate energy (115). It's not gonna blow your socks off, but after a solid week of blown-out junk, the clean surface will be a relief. The combined energy is pretty weak, so expect mushy, small waves. That afternoon gets even smaller at 2 ft, but the cross-offshore wind cleans it up nicely. It's a window for the patient, but don't expect any barrels.
Now, the one to circle on your calendar is Thursday, 30th July. The morning session is the standout of the whole outlook. We get another glassy period with a 3 mph wind from the west-northwest, which is basically offshore for this spot. The swell is up to a solid 6 ft from the northwest, with combined energy kicking into moderate territory at 317. That's a decent pulse of energy. The water temp is sitting at a normal 59°F for this time of year, nothing weird there.
However, there's a catch. The swell period is only 7 seconds. That's a short-period wind swell, so the waves will be a bit crumbly and not as powerful as a longer-period groundswell. You'll get more waves in a set but they won't have the same grunt. Still, with glassy conditions, that's the best we've got on offer. Also, being an advanced break, the 6 ft swell might be pushing it for beginners, but it's manageable for the experienced crew. Crowds are possible on a clean day like that.
After that, it gets messy again pretty quickly. The morning of Saturday, 1st August, shows a bigger 6 ft swell from the west-northwest with a much longer period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is strong (590), suggesting some proper power, but it's accompanied by a moderate cross-onshore wind. That'll chop it up enough to keep quality low. It's the classic tease: good swell, wrong wind.
The rest of the second week features a few other pulses of swell, like 5 ft on Friday the 31st, but the wind is always cross-onshore or onshore. It’s just a long stretch of poor conditions. For the most part, with the significant swell and persistent cross-onshore wind, the setup at this beach-and-reef break is looking far more interesting for kite surfing than for a clean paddle session.
Stick with the glassy morning on the 28th or the standout morning of the 30th. That's where the gold is. The rest? Save your energy.
Rusty.
