The Lowdown
Alright, let's be real about Reve Havn. This 16-day window is a total bust for traditional surfin'. There's no one session you'd want to paddle into. It's a long, ugly period with no redeeming features.
Friday the 21st kicks it off with nasty cross-onshore NNW winds at 25 mph and a messy 7 ft NW swell with a short 7-second period. Wave energy is moderate (363) but meaningless in that wind. That mess echoes through the weekend, with Saturday seeing 8 ft to 10 ft of the same choppy slop and winds up to 28 mph. Sunday's a bit smaller at 5 ft, but still cross-onshore and lumpy.
Tuesday morning the 25th is the only real pause. The wind goes dead calm, a glassy 3 ft groundswell from the WNW at 11 seconds rolls in with moderate energy (234). Still, it's called "very ordinary conditions," and the water's about 59°, which is average for the year. Not enough to get excited about. After that, the rest of the week and into the weekend is mostly tiny, weak surf – often under 2 ft – with some fierce offshore winds that make paddling out a nightmare. Wave energy plummets, often under 100.
Come September, nothing changes. The first few days bring more strong onshore and cross-onshore winds with rain squalls. Swells bounce between 3 ft and 6 ft, but with short periods and gale-force winds on Thursday the 3rd, it's blown to bits. The week of the 4th and 5th sees the surf shrink again, but the wind never lets up. With the strong winds and exposed beach-and-reef layout, this whole stretch looks more promising for kite surfin' than for a paddle.
It's a long, quiet spell. But that's the nature of this spot sometimes. Forecasts can always flip.
