Table - best surf conditions forecast for Redcar Scars over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for our local stretch over the next couple of weeks. I'm basing this all on the Redcar Scars reef.
Truth be told, the outlook is pretty flat for the foreseeable future. There's a real dry spell on the cards, with weak little waves and mostly onshore or cross-onshore breezes messing things up. It’s going to be a frustrating wait, but that's the nature of the spot sometimes.
From Wednesday the 8th through to Thursday the 16th, it's a write-off. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple, barely making it to 1 ft to 2 ft at best, with combined swell energy readings mostly in the teens to low 60s – that's weak juice (37 to 69). The wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, and often blowing a moderate 12 mph, making it choppy and unappealing. Even the glassy morning on Thursday the 9th only had a 1 ft, 7-second wind swell – just not enough to get excited about. Hard to recommend paddling out, but it would be a pretty location for a swim.
The first real glimmer of hope arrives on Friday, the 17th of July. The morning session shows a jump to 5 ft of swell from the NNE with an 8-second period, and combined energy of 284 – that's moderate but building. But the real standout is Friday afternoon. The wind goes glassy, and the swell holds at a clean 5 ft from the NNE with an 8-second period. The combined swell energy hits 292, which is moderate, and the reef should start to work. This is the one to point to. The water temperature anomaly isn't provided here, so I can't comment on how it compares to average, but a clean 5 ft on an inconsistent reef like this is the best offer we have. Keep in mind Redcar Scars is an inconsistent spot, so this could be a window of fun, clean waves for the better surfers. It's not huge, but with glass it'll be a pleasure.
After that, it goes quiet again. Saturday the 18th shows 3 ft but with a 16 mph cross-offshore wind that will hold the waves up but make it tricky. By Sunday the 19th onwards, we're back to tiny, weak swells under 2 ft and deteriorating winds, including a 22 mph onshore blow and rain on Monday the 20th that makes it look more like a kiteboarding day. The combined energies drop right back to single or low double digits (6 to 35) – feeble stuff.
So, to sum it up: one genuine, standout window – Friday afternoon the 17th of July. If you can be there, you might have a gem. The rest is a long, flat slog. Stay patient.
Rusty.
