Table - best surf conditions forecast for Redcar Scars over the next 16 days.
Right, folks. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Redcar Scars. I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s a grim start. We’ve got a solid week of poor conditions ahead, with wind and swell all wrong, so don’t bother waxing up just yet.
We kick off Saturday the 11th with tiny 1ft waves from the NNE, but the wind is on it or cross-onshore, and the water is a touch warmer than normal at 60°. The combined energy is weak (14), and it’s just not worth a paddle. This same story runs right through to Saturday the 18th – mostly small, weak swell, often less than 3ft, with moderate to fresh onshore winds. The wave energy stays low (mostly under 100), and the surf is consistently poor. It’s a frustrating stretch.
Now, Sunday the 19th morning shows a little hope. We get a glassy surface with light westerly wind, and the swell bumps up to 5ft from the NNE with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy hits 181, which is moderate. But the wave comment says "surfable but very ordinary," so it’s not a standout. The afternoon gets ruined by onshore wind again.
The first real glimpse of something decent is Monday the 20th morning. The wind swings offshore from the SW, light at 9 mph, and the swell is 6ft from the north with a 9-second period. The combined energy jumps to 452 – that’s moderate to strong. The comment says "expect good surf conditions." This is a solid option for confident surfers. The afternoon, however, gets hammered by a fresh 22 mph WSW wind, so it’s a morning-only window.
Tuesday the 21st has a small clean morning with 3ft from the north and offshore light wind, but it’s ordinary. Skip it.
The next real standout is Wednesday the 23rd morning. We’ve got a 7ft swell from the north, a 7-second period, and light offshore WNW wind at 6 mph. The combined energy is a solid 363. That’s a fun, clean size for experienced surfers, but beginners should be wary as it’s over 5ft. It’s a reef break and inconsistent, so don’t expect a crowd, but when it’s on, it’ll be worth it. The afternoon turns questionable with onshore wind.
The last good shout is Sunday the 26th. The morning starts with a fresh offshore SSW wind at 19 mph and a 7ft north swell, 9-second period, with combined energy soaring to 830 – that’s strong. The comment says "expect good surf conditions." This is for experts only, as it’s over 8ft. The afternoon remains clean with moderate offshore wind and 6ft waves. It’s a promising end to the outlook, but it’s a long way off, so keep an eye on it.
Overall, the best of the bunch is the morning of Tuesday the 23rd and the morning of Sunday the 26th. The 23rd offers cleaner, more manageable size, while the 26th is bigger and more powerful. Both with offshore wind. Get on it if you can.
Rusty.
