Table - best surf conditions forecast for Redcar Scars over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is a tough one to call. For the next 16 days, Redcar Scars is mostly a write-off. We’ve got a long, long stretch of poor conditions ahead, with the first real window of opportunity not showing up until the morning of the 22nd of July. That’s a solid gap of over a week with nothing worth paddling out for.
The swell energy is weak for the first week, with combined energy values barely climbing into double digits—just 41 on the 10th, dropping to single digits by the 15th. The wind is locked in from the ENE or NE, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, so the surface is going to be messy and choppy. By the 18th and 19th, the swell does pick up—hitting 7 ft from the NNE, with energy jumping to 312 and then 451—but the wind stays cross-onshore, ruining any chance of clean waves. The period is short, around 6 to 8 seconds, so it’s windswell, weak and lumpy. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one.
The only standout here is the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of July. We get a clean window with offshore wind from the WSW at 3 mph, a 3 ft swell from the NNE at 7 seconds—moderate energy at 97—and the wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The wind is offshore and light, so the surface will be glassy and clean. The swell is small, only 3 ft, so it’s fine for beginners. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual. Crowds are possible at Redcar Scars, so you might have a few others there.
The rest of the 22nd and the following days drop off fast. The 23rd is tiny, 1.0 ft with cross-off winds, and by the 24th and 25th it’s down to 0.7 ft. The forecast confidence is higher for the near-term, so the 22nd is your best bet, but it’s not a classic. For now, I’d keep an eye on it, but don’t get your hopes too high.
