Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – looking at the next 16 days, it's a tough stretch for Redcar Scars. We've got a lean forecast, so let's walk through it day by day.
The pattern that sets in is one of low energy and persistent sideshore winds. Starting from the first sniff of surf on Thursday afternoon, July 2nd, the swell is a weak 4 ft from the NW with a short, snappy period of only 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is a poor 75, and while the wind is cross-offshore, the quality is just not there. It’s a frustrating start.
Moving into Friday, July 3rd, the morning sees a slight change. Swell holds at 4 ft but shifts more northerly, with a better period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 194, so there's a bit more push behind it. The wind stays cross-off, but the surf is still described as poor. By afternoon, the swell drops to 3 ft and the energy craters back to 76. Not a great run.
Saturday, July 4th, and Sunday, July 5th, are a write-off. Swell drops to 1 ft and then 0.7 ft, with energy levels of 13 and 2 respectively. The wind is variable, but there’s just no wave to work with. Monday through Wednesday of the following week are similar – tiny swell, mostly onshore or cross-onshore wind, and very low energy numbers. Thursday morning, July 16th, offers a bit of hope with a 2 ft swell from the east and cross-offshore winds, but the energy is only 39 and the period is a short 6 seconds. It’s clean, but weak.
There’s really no standout day here. The best on offer is probably Friday morning, July 3rd, thanks to the 4 ft swell and longer 9-second period that at least gives you some shape, combined with the cross-off wind keeping it clean. But even that is a tough sell with poor quality scores.
The water temperature sits at 58° on that first Thursday, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a small comfort, but not enough to make the surf good.
So, there you have it. A proper lean spell. Surf is generally unreliable here, and this forecast backs that up. Keep your eye on the charts, because it tends not to stay flat forever.
Rusty.
