The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for Redcar Scars.
Honestly, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a write-off for any decent surf. There’s nothing on the table right now that gets me excited. We’ve got a long gap of poor conditions stretching from Wednesday the 19th of August, all the way through to the end of the month. The wind is all over the place, mostly cross-onshore or just messy, and the waves are just not cooperating. Don’t bother checking the beach until the very end of the month, and even then, it’s only just surfable.
The first real glimmer comes on the 28th of August, Friday afternoon. We’ve got a clean 2.6ft northeast swell, with a light offshore wind. The combined energy is low though, only 72, so it’s small and weak. It’s barely worth a paddle, but it’s the first time the wind is right, so if you’re desperate, you might get a few soft ones.
The better of a bad bunch looks like it could be the 30th of August, Sunday afternoon. We’re seeing a 4.9ft swell from the ESE, but the period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s not going to have much grunt. Still, the offshore wind is gentle and clean, and combined wave energy is 140, which is moderate. It’s a ‘surfable’ call, but it’s ordinary. For a more experienced crew, this might be your best window in the whole forecast. The direction is off for the break’s optimum, which is NNE, so it won’t be firing, but it’s the only time you get a bit of size with clean conditions.
By the 31st of August, Monday morning, we have a 3.9ft easterly swell, 7-second period, clean and glassy with a slight air. Combined energy is 156. It’s just ‘surfable’. Nothing special. The first week of September still looks underwhelming, with only average clean lines but tiny swell.
Overall, don’t make plans. There are no true standouts. The best you can hope for is a few clean but small waves around the 30th and 31st of August. It’s a quiet spell for Redcar Scars.
