Puerto San Andres Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s cut to the chase—this stretch of coast is looking pretty grim for the next couple of weeks. The surf is going to be tiny, the wind is going to be messy, and you’ll be spending more time sitting on your board than riding waves. There’s a long flat spell ahead, and it’s not until the second week that we see even a glimmer of hope, and even then, it’s not much.

The first week is basically a bust. From Thursday the 6th through to Wednesday the 12th, we’re looking at waves around 2 to 2 feet, with a steady cross-onshore breeze chopping everything up. The energy is weak, and the conditions are just poor. You’d be better off doing something else.

The swell starts to pick up a touch around Thursday the 13th, but it’s still small. By Friday the 14th, we finally see it nudge up to 3 to 3 feet, and the energy gets a bit more moderate. That afternoon is the first time we get a marginal call, but it’s still not clean.

The best of a bad bunch looks like Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th. The swell holds around 3 feet from the SW with a 16-second period, and I’d be looking at Puerto San Andres (El Hierro) for the morning sessions. Saturday morning has a light breeze, but it’s still cross-onshore, though the energy is moderate. Sunday morning is similar, with a light breeze. It’s small, but it’s the most promising we’ve got.

But honestly, this is not a time for a surfer. The wave heights are all under 3 feet, the winds are mostly cross-onshore, and the consistency is poor. There’s no real power behind it. For beginners, the lack of size might be the only saving grace, but the chop will make it messy.

The second week keeps the same tune. From the 17th through the 21st, we’re back to small, weak surf, with a brief blip on the 20th when the swell direction swings to WNW with a short 8-second period. That’s just local wind swell, not groundswell, and it won’t be any good.

So, there it is. A long, flat, and messy outlook. The only thing that even hints at a surf is the 14th to the 16th, and that’s marginal at best. If you’re desperate, keep an eye on the 15th and 16th mornings, but don’t hold your breath. This coast tends to stay quiet for stretches, but it won’t be like this forever.
