    The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.

Well, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch ahead for Praia da Rocha. We're looking at a real flat spell for the first week or so. From Tuesday the 8th right through to the 15th of September, there's basically nothing doing. The ocean is just switched off, and we're seeing a whole lot of nothing – zero energy in the water every day. That's a solid eight days of no surf to speak of. The winds are mostly light and the skies are clear, but without any swell, it's just a nice day for a swim, not a surf.

The first sign of life, and I mean barely a sign, shows up on the morning of Wednesday the 16th of September. We're talking about the tiniest pulse of swell – a mere 0.3 ft coming out of the south with a long period of 13 seconds. The combined energy is a paltry 3, so it's as weak as it gets. Even with the wind blowing offshore from the NNW making it clean, there's just not enough water moving to get a surfboard wet. That afternoon, the wind swings to the WNW, still clean, but it's the same story – tiny, weak swell. Thursday the 17th is a write-off again, and Friday the 18th sees another 0.3 ft whisper from the south, but it's onshore, so it's a total non-starter.

We get a bit of a tease on Saturday the 19th of September. Morning glass-off conditions, with a 0.3 ft south swell, and the afternoon picks up a tiny bit more energy (6), but it's still just 0.3 ft. It's glassy in the morning, but the south swell is coming from the wrong direction for this spot – Praia da Rocha is fairly exposed, but it wants a SW swell to really work. This little south pulse isn't enough to get the job done.

The forecast finally throws us a bone way out on Tuesday the 22nd of September. The afternoon shows a 2 ft swell from the west, with a short, weak period of just 5 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 23, which is still very weak, but it's the most we've seen in the whole forecast. The wind is cross-off from the NW, keeping it clean. The swell direction from the west is a better fit for the break, but at 2 ft with that short period, it's going to be tiny, weak, and probably a bit choppy. It's a beginner-friendly height, but it's not exactly going to be a day to remember.

And that's about it. The rest of the 23rd is just another 0.3 ft blip.

So, the honest truth? There's no standout here. The best we can hope for is that little pulse on the 22nd, which is more than a week away and will be a very marginal, small-wave day. If you're desperate for a paddle, that's your window, but keep expectations on the floor. For now, the forecast is a real bummer. It won't stay this flat forever, but for the next 16 days, the Algarve is on a go-slow.

    Rusty.
