The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for our local stretch.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty flat. It’s gonna be a long wait for anything worth paddling out for. We’ve got a solid week of tiny, weak surf on the horizon, but honestly, it’s all pretty poor. The water temp is sitting at a balmy 82.9°F which is right on the money for this time of year, so at least a swim won’t be a shock.
The first real chance of anything comes from the 22nd of July, but even then, it’s small. On Wednesday the 22nd, we’ve got a weak 2ft swell from the NNE with a short period of 7 to 8 seconds, and combined energy of just 33 to 40 (weak). The wind is offshore from the ESE, which is a positive, but the waves are just too small and weak to get excited about. That trend of small, weak, offshore wind days continues through the 23rd and 24th, with the swell bumping up to 3ft on Friday the 24th morning, but with a period of only 7 seconds, it’s gonna be a bumpy, weak mess. The energy is still low at 79 (weak).
After that, the models go quiet for a few days. There’s a long gap with no real swell until the 28th of July, when we see a tiny 0.3ft to 1ft pulse from the NE, but with a period of 11 seconds. That longer period is a sign of some distant groundswell, but there’s just not enough size to do anything with it. The energy is a measly 10 to 18 (weak). The 29th and 30th of July bring a little more, with 1.3ft to 1.6ft from the NE, but still the period is short at 9 seconds and the energy is still weak, topping out at 60.
The best call in this whole outlook? Honestly, there isn’t a standout. If you’re absolutely desperate, the Friday the 24th of July morning has the most size at 3ft, but it’s a short period windswell and the wind is a fresh 30 km/h offshore. It’ll be blown out and weak. For the tiny window of cleaner conditions, the Wednesday the 22nd of July afternoon with 2ft and a moderate offshore breeze is probably the least terrible option, but don’t expect a wave face.
It’s just one of those flat spells. The wind is offshore, which is a good sign, but we need some proper swell to show up. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, the wax is staying in the bag.
