The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. It’s Rusty here.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you: for most of this 16-day window, the surf at Le Moule is a bit of a write-off. We’re looking at a long stretch of cross-shore winds, mostly moderate to fresh, with a lumpy cross-chop messing things up. Swell direction is mainly out of the east, with short periods around 7 seconds, which means weak, wind-affected waves. The combined swell energy is sitting in the 200–300 range most days, which is weak to moderate at best. It’s not offering much for a paddle surfer.
Water temperature is 84°, which is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
Now, there is one standout that’s worth paying attention to, and it comes late in the window. On Thursday the 27th of August in the morning, we finally get a real change. The wind swings around to the southeast at just 9 mph, going cross-offshore and glassy. The swell jumps up to 15 ft out of the southeast with a 10-second period. That’s a proper groundswell, and combined swell energy hits 3464, which is very strong. Conditions are described as clean, and the report says it’s excellent for experienced surfers. This is the real deal. That afternoon the swell drops back, but still offers 8 ft from the ESE with clean conditions.
After that, we go back into a bit of a slump. There’s some marginal stuff around the 29th and 30th of August, with swells in the 8 ft to 8 ft range and periods stretching to 10 or 12 seconds, but winds are still cross-shore and the conditions are only marginal. The energy is moderate to strong, but not worth getting too excited about.
By the start of September, the surf fades right out, with small, weak waves and poor conditions.
So, bottom line: if you’re a beginner or intermediate, this whole stretch is tough going. For experienced surfers, that Thursday the 27th morning window is the one to circle. It’s a proper, powerful swell with clean conditions. Everything else is a miss or a marginal gamble.
