Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a good hard look at what’s coming down the pipe for Le Moule.
First up, the water temp is sitting at 83°F which is bang on average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there. But I gotta be straight with you—looking at this whole 16-day run, it’s a tough watch. The swell is hanging around in that 5ft to 7ft range, which is a decent enough size, but the problem is it’s coming mostly from the East with a short period of just 8 seconds or less. That’s pure windswell, not the good stuff. On top of that, the wind is a persistent moderate to fresh cross or cross-on shore breeze. That’s blowing right across or onto the break, leaving it choppy and lumpy with a cross-chop. The combined wave energy is moderate in the 200 to 700 range, but it’s just messy. Every single day is flagged as “poor surf conditions” so there really isn’t a standout session in the bunch.
To be honest, this stretch looks more like a kite-surfing setup than a good paddle-surfing day. The beach and reef setup here at Le Moule (Le-Moule) doesn't get a clean window with the right offshore wind direction to match the optimum NE swell direction. The swell is coming from the East or ENE, which isn’t ideal, and the wind never turns offshore. It’s just a long, bumpy grind.
For the first week, from Monday the 6th of July all the way through to Sunday the 12th, it’s the same story: cross-shore wind, lumpy lines, and that short-period energy. There’s no real drop in the wind. Come the second week, from Monday the 13th through to Tuesday the 21st of July, the pattern barely shifts. The swell goes as low as 5ft for a bit but the wind stays up, mostly cross-shore again. The only slight relief might be the morning of Friday the 17th of July where the wind eases to a gentle breeze, but it’s still cross-shore and the period is only 7 seconds. That’s not going to give you any real shape.
There simply isn’t a single day I can point to and say “that’s your window.” The whole 16-day outlook is a write-off for clean, rideable surf. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a blank run. Sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Rusty.
